Doctor, I am a smoker I want to know amount of tar in my lungs, I am smoking from last 4 years daily 3 cigarettes. Now a days m feeling weak. I want to know what test are recommended. Is chest xray enough for it?

Chest x ray will just show the superficial extent of damage. For knowing the functional capacity of your lungs, get a pulmonary function test done, it a test done wherein you will be asked to blow inside a machine in various ways, so that your lung capacity can be plotted. Stop smoking immediately, all the best. For lung damage consult a pulmonologist, for smoking cessation if you are not able to do on your own, consult a psychiatrist.

Hi I will prescribe some harmless but effective flower remedy available in homoeopathy shops. Try to buy original medicines. Mix 3 drops of cherry plum + 3 drops of white chestnut + 3 drops of mimulus. Mix these with 100 ml water and drink it every night.

Lybrate-user, its a myth that masturbation will drain you or is unhealthy. You don't have to feel guilty about it at all. Till the time its rewarding and not a hindrance you can carry on with it. Its natural. But if you feel its in excess or want to stop it for other reasons, consult with a psychologist for psychotherapy- to learn to deal ways to curb it. All the best.

You are too young to feel depressed. I suggest that you go meet a counselor immediately and if that person advises, you may have to meet with a doctor too. Even if you are put on medication do not discontinue the counseling for a long time. The doctor will help with he headache and the sleep problem. Since the problem manifests so early there may be some childhood influences that are causing this depression. In that case I suggest you take your parents too, to the counselor. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because at your age you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love: find someone to love and to love you back. If you love yourself adequately, you will never do harm to yourself. Be positive always and learn to do everything possible to invest into yourself. Life is extremely precious and because the depression, which is a mood disorder, makes you feel like giving up you must still persevere. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive everyday and learn to be contended with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved. Because you are young the prognosis is good subject to your cooperation.

Bright red skin after drinking, caused by dilated capillaries, is almost certainly an example of the alcohol flush reaction, related to the incomplete metabolism of alcohol.

Hi, don't go for amitriptyline as it has sideeffects. I will suggest some homoeopathic medicines please go for those as homoeopathic medicines don't have side effects and you will get complete cure. * r 14 drops (dr reckeweg and company, germany) 10drops in 1/4cup of water, drink 3times a day, 1/2 an hour before meals (total 30 drops /day) tablet tranquil 4tabs to be chewed 3times a day 1/2 an hour after meals continue these medicines for 3months and let me know how you feel.

I feel fatigue and lazy, I want to do activities but my body does not support me to do exercises and extra works as I feel weakness. And one thing that I am not gaining weight, I am slim and straight, I want some muscular or bulk body. But don't know how to proceed for it. I have eaten a lot of junk and spicy food and my body metabolism is decreased and stamina is exhausted as I used to masturbate and do not perform and physical body work. Dear Lybrate user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

You must follow the natural laws of nature. If you violate the nature, nature will never support you. Think positive, do positive with mind and body, then results will be positive. Positive thought never gives negative results and you will feel well and enthusiastic free from stress. Awake your consciousness to balance your mind and body. Try to practice meditation twice daily then you feel better result.

Your mother could be under a lot of stress and that is why she is forgetting little things. Although concentration is different to memory, they can affect each other. Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if she goes to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else she is doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that her brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night?s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, broccoli, blueberries, fish, coconut oil, wheat sprouts, tomatoes, sunflower seeds, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. If the home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect her memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling. See how many of these exercises she can incorporate in her daily life and if the problem persists let her meet with a counselor to deal with the stress.

I don't like bringing my work to home. And he says I'm unworthy and lazy. This breaks me. I love him. But he sees me more like an employee not like a wife. He doesn't agree for counselling. The best thing for you would be to not work at the same place. If you can try, go for some other working option. Difference in work attitude will interfere in your domestic well being.

Hi, I have been suffering general anxiety disorder since last 6 months. I have undergone many blood tests and lab reports all are normal. However, Every evening between 6 to 8 PM I do feel very anxious, fatigue, irritated and all kind of bodily sensations comes up and makes me like I am going to die. I am not sure what is the problem with me - is it physical or mental but not able to keep myself in healthy state of mind during this period and quality of life gets deteriorated. Worst of all is my Blood pressure goes up during this period up to 150/92. My physician says I am hypochondriac and stop noticing body sensations and get on with life but I am really scared mainly the high BP and damage it does to my body parts. Please help.

Dear lybrate-user, Felling anxious, irritation, racing heart, trembling or shaking, sweating, numbness or tingling sensations, fatigue, fear of dying etc might be signs that you're having a panic attack. Try reducing your everyday stressors. Next time you feel a panic attack coming: Look around you and identify: - 5 things you can see - 4 things you can feel - 3 things you can hear - 2 things you can smell - 1 thing you can taste I recommend that you visit a counsellor for further help. I love a guy. And we have been in a relationship for 5 years. And I know he loves me too. But I don't understand, he says he can't marry me. For a woman a relationship is always marriage oriented, but many men are not looking for a commitment when they are in a relationship. So you have to set your priorities, if marriage is your goal, lose your fear and talk to him. But if the relationship dynamics are such that you are afraid to even talk to him. I am 75 kg. I want to lose at least 5 KGS. But not able to concentrate on my diet due to my busy schedule of school n house hold activities. Pls consult me a diet which will help me to reduce weight n also little time consuming. N which meet s nutritious benefit s. I usually take home made foods only. Morning tiffen idly dosa, pongal, lunch always rice. N for dinner chapatti s or little millets. Or.doses etc. Tea 2 times a day. N fruit s three times a week at least.

You should consult a nutritionist for a detailed program. However here are some basic tips: Modify your diet: increase the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables, salads and reduce processed foods. Weight loss works best when you focus on diet and exercise. If you do not get time to exercise, then do whatever you can in the time you have. For eg: take the stairs instead of lift, travel short distances by walking, park your vehicle away from your destination so you have to walk the rest of the distance, etc. Try some relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation and yoga; these will help to reduce your stress. Ensure you are getting adequate sleep at night. Spend time with family or friends and confide in those whom you are comfortable. Indulge in any activities or hobbies that you like.
