He has swollen belly & not passed stool ...
Junior lanzole has no role in constiption. Muout is not helpful. If child is not passing stool for 2 days and active, it is not abnormal. Give him fibrous food and liquid/ water in good quantity. Train him for toileting habit asking him to sit daily or twice in a day on pot for about 10-15 minutes.

3 Common skin problems in teenagers

Problems with the skin during the teenage years are very common. Although skin issues can be really stressful, the right skin care treatment can help in controlling the problems you may face during this time. Here are some of the skin issues that you may face at this stage of life and ways to prevent them:

Oily Skin: Oily skin is a very common occurrence during teenage years. To a certain extent, oily skin may be due to genetics but for some, it may be due to hormonal changes that cause excess oil to be produced on the skin surface. In order to not inflame the skin further, individuals with oily skin shouldn't overly scrub their skin as well as not use harsh cleansers to clean the face. More importantly, when you do use a cleanser on your face, you should only do so two times a day. If you go overboard, it would only do more harm than good.

Acne: Whether it is blackheads, whiteheads or spots filled with pus, acne affects about 80% of teenagers at some point in their lives. Teenagers are more prone to this problem because the hormone levels during this time are especially high, resulting in an increase in the magnitude of sebaceous glands and the oil that is produced. When too much oil is produced, this, along with dead skin cells block, the follicles, giving rise to acne. There are certain ways in which you can prevent it from occurring, such as always having a bath after any strenuous activity, not picking or touching the problem areas and washing acne-prone spots only two times a day.

Excessive Sweating: Excessive sweating is another major cause of concern for teenagers. The problem can be due to two different conditions - stress or hyperhidrosis (a condition wherein you sweat excessively on a daily basis). Wearing clothes made from cotton, using antiperspirants as well as avoiding drinks and foods that may cause episodes of excessive sweating are some of the ways in which you can keep the problem in control.

Sorliv syrup is prescribed for the treatment of liver disorders, asthma symptoms in adults, occasional constipation along with several other problems. Sorliv syrup contains the salts sorbitol, tricholine citrate as active ingredients. It is available in syrup form. Intima ipca labs manufactures sorliv syrup. Sorliv syrup is used in the treatment, control, prevention, & improvement of the following diseases, conditions and symptoms: liver disorders asthma symptoms in adults occasional constipation for your 4 month old baby if this was given for loose motion it is better to atop it and also stop bottle feeding if you give. For babies never feed from bottle with nipple and instead feed from a cup with spoon or a sipper. Breast milk is the best milk for babies. If you stop bottle feed itself the loose motion will stop and as a probiotic give enuff 10 mg sachets dissolved in a little water twice a day and breast milk and then contact me.

Hello, it's great to hear you are continuing breast feeding, keep it on. If baby is active passing urine more than 5 times in 24 hours then it's enough milk. If you want then fresh home made juices, kanji water can be tried. Babies in exclusive breast feed don't need single drop of water even in hottest summer.

Breastfed Babies Have Lower Childhood Leukemia Risk

MBBS

Ask Free Question
When you are having a baby, chances are good that lots of people will have lots of advice. One of the things they’ll probably recommend is breastfeeding. Everyone from your obstetrician to the nurses in the maternity ward to possibly even your friends and family will tell you that it’s important to nurse, and with good reason. Breastfeeding has been linked with lots of benefits including better bonding with your infant, losing those pregnancy pounds faster, and a higher IQ in your child. And now, new research offers up yet another reason it is important to breastfeed–possibly decreasing the likelihood that your baby will develop leukemia as a child.
The study, which was conducted at the University of Haifa in Israel, found that nursing may lower the risk of pediatric leukemia by 14 to 19 percent. The scientists reached this conclusion by performing a meta-analysis of 18 studies that had been previously published. The subjects of each of the 18 investigations were mothers of children who had been diagnosed with leukemia and mothers of children who were healthy. They were asked questions that included whether or not they breastfed their children and their responses were compiled and compared.
The research was not designed to prove cause and effect, and these findings in no way show that failure to nurse a baby causes pediatric leukemia. However, that difference of 14 to 19 percent is significant enough to establish an association between breastfeeding and lowering a child’s risk of this disease. The scientists found that it was a minimum of six months of breastfeeding that appears to confer some type of protection.
The major weakness of this type of study is that the findings are based on recall. You might think that you would certainly remember the length of time that you nursed a child, but if you are asked about it several years later and have more than one kid, some of the details might be a little fuzzy. However, even if that is an issue, it stands to reason that most mothers can provide a fairly accurate account of whether or not they breastfed and the approximate duration.
At any rate, even if the 14 to 19 percent determined by the scientists is slightly off, the evidence still provides a link to reducing the chance of your child developing leukemia. And any potential reduction of a risk like that is something most mothers would jump at. Leukemias, which affect the bone marrow and blood, are responsible for approximately 30 percent of all pediatric cancers according to the American Cancer Society. It is the most common form of childhood cancer, and treatment typically involves chemotherapy and sometimes radiation or surgery as well.
While the research did not address exactly how breastfeeding might help prevent pediatric leukemia, the answer might lie in a 2014 study at the University of Kentucky in Lexington that showed breast milk is an effective route of transmitting antibodies from mother to baby. These antibodies serve a valuable function by quickly bringing the infant’s immune system up to speed and helping the child fight off infections. And as Jon Barron has pointed out, cancer is intimately tied to the strength of your immune system. Other research has found that breastfed babies are hospitalized less frequently than their bottle-fed counterparts, have a lower risk of sudden infant death syndrome, and have diminished rates of ear infections, diarrhea, allergies, anddiabetes.
Ultimately, to breastfeed a child or not is a matter of choice. But with so many proven health benefits to both infant and mother (breastfeeding has been shown to reduce your risk of breast and ovarian cancer as well as rheumatoid arthritis), it is hard to imagine many reasons why a woman would choose formula over nursing. Of course sometimes there are extenuating circumstances due to an adoption, inability to produce sufficient quantities of breast milk, and other issues that might preclude nursing. But any time spent breastfeeding is worthwhile for the health of both you and your little one.

No never. This is a normal cycle for first 4 months of age. As during pregnancy when mom walks, baby swings like a jula, and even mom sleeps. The pendulum movement of baby stops in side tummy is his mom, so they get awake. So same sleep cycle continues post birth also. For atleast 4 months. Make sure child takes feeding well during night and gradually it would improve.

Daughter got loose motions since morning. She is 20 month old, please suggest food for her.

Best Ways to Deal With Tonsillitis in Kids

DAA, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS, DMRD
Pediatrician
Ask Free Question
Tonsillitis, in the easiest terms, is the swelling of tonsils in our throat that is accompanied by symptoms like throat pain, difficulty in swallowing/ drinking, altered voice and fever etc.

As in the case of most infections, the occurrence of tonsillitis is more common in children due to relatively lower immunity and habits that invite infections. Let's take a look at the first line of defence when you have a cranky child with swollen tonsils.

1. Make your child gargle with salty warm water: This treatment is most helpful in any infection in the mouth. Add half teaspoonful of salt to a glass of warm water and make the child gargle with the mixture as many times in the day as possible (to a maximum of 5 times). Continue till the condition prevails.

Make sure the child spits out the water and not drinks it.

2. Antibiotics: Consult the ent specialist and have the antibiotics if it is a bacterial cause as per the doctor. Take the alternative treatment prescribed in case of other causes. The entire course of medication should be completed even if the kid gets better sooner to eliminate all traces of bacteria.

3. Painkiller/numbing lozenges: Painkillers that are prescribed by the doctor can be given to ease the pain. Same is the case with lozenges but care should be taken that he/she should not have too many of these.

4. Allow him/her to take rest: It does help in a betterment of the condition!

5. Give warm (not hot) soothing food: Soup, ginger honey mixture, ginger tea can help soothe the inflamed tonsils in most cases. The condition, more often than not, gets better within 7-10 days.

Hi lybrate-user, thank you for your qjery. Generally birth weight doubles by 6 months of age and trebles by 1 year of age. For example, if a baby born with 3 kg weight, baby will be 6 kgs at 6 months and 9 kgs by 1 year of age. Give her breast feeds and continue to give complimentary feeds 3 to 4 times in a day. Make feeds calorie rich by adding a few drops of ghee or edible oil. Hope I have answered your concerns. Regards, Dr. E venkata ramana.

That is normal. Try to wipe it with a clean, sterile cloth. It it goes it was most likely due to the milk/nan otherwise it can be a fungal infection called oral candidiasis, common in preterm babies.

Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, the problem you are facing is not uncommon. Some children are more shy and reserved than others and it is perfectly normal. However, this shyness becomes a problem if it interferes with our functioning in the society as a normal human being. If you think that your child's social life is getting affected by this, please consult a child counsellor.
