You should encourage weaning with liquids-semisolid-solids with increasing age. In the meantime continue breast feeding as long as possible.

My son is 3 months 20 days old. He has given 3dose of pentavalent vaccine on scheduled time. I missed his 1st dose of ipv before so He got 1st dose of IPV (0.1 ml subcutaneous) with 3rd dose of pentavalent vaccine. So when should I give 2nd dose of IPV? How many doses are needed? His weight is 6.6 kg now. Which other vaccines are mandatory?

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatrician, Delhi
If your baby has got even one dose of IPV, you are OK as long as you have given OPV with Pentavalent vaccine along with first two doses. You need not give additional IPV. The weight is fine. Follow the immunisation schedule as per your pediatrician/ hospital card.

My son is of 4.5 year old Suffering from fever and vomiting n nausea n loss of appetite His Widal test is TO 1: 80 AND TH 1: 80 What is the meaning of this N what type of cure required for this.

MD - Homeopathy, BHMS
Homeopath, Vadodara
It is a test for Typhoid which seems non reactive. Means negative. But there are many factors to be considered. As the report comes positive only after 7-10 days of initial symptoms. And that also if no antibiotics are taken. But irrespective of the test results if there are symptoms then they need to be treated properly. Consult for homoeopathic treatment.

My 3.5 years old daughter has always been very adamant and impatient. How can I make a positive change in her? Please suggest.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
As she is too young now, you ahve to wait for her to grow and inculcate values in her and make her understand things positively and behave well. It may take time and be patient

My son is of 2.3 years and his weight is 11 kg his weight is not increasing from last 1 year. I consult several doctors all of them give mutlivatiman syrup and iron, calcium. Please suggest me is something wrong with my child or he is normal. He is also not interested in any kind of food.

Pediatrician, Kaithal
Child's weight depends upon his birth weight, parents built, dietary habits. If he is taking excessive milk and lesser solid diet, it will be difficult for him to grow properly.

Hello, I want to know Heart beat Maximum rate in Dengue Fever of 8 month's child, because my nephew had Dengue fever but his Maximum heart rate is 230 plus. So kindly tell me how to decrease heart rate of child.

MRCPCH
Pediatrician,
Raised heart rate in a child is a significant finding. Heart rate of 230 is very high. Definitely take baby to a paediatrician to get her checked. Dengue fever at 8 months has to be managed very closely by an experienced doctor. You can't manage significantly raised heart rate at home.

Cannabis An Ancient Treatment For Epilepsy

Cbd oil for epilepsy

Cannabis indica and cannabis sativa have been used therapeutically for thousands of years, including for the treatment of epilepsy. Today, cannabis is viewed as a controversial medical subject - thanks in large part to prohibition and decades of misinformation - but prior to 1937's 'marihuana tax act' cannabis was accepted by doctors and patients as a true medicine, and considered one of the safest and most effective forms of seizure control medication.

My 3 and half months baby got vaccinated with pentavac 4 days back. But there is a hard swell, Abscess formation and reddish look around the vaccinated area. What to do and what may be the reason. Does this cause problem to the leg after growth.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Ghaziabad
Give baby some analgesic paracetamol drops 0.5 ml 4 5imes a day. Hardness will subside within 3 to 4 weeks. If abscess formation is there show the baby physically to child specialist.

If the baby is exclusively breastfed it can not be diarrhoea. Breastfed babies usually pass frequent semisolid stools following feeding.

there r usually 2 reason at this age. 1- hunger and 2- discomfort which may be either due to wet, rolling of sheet under body and over or under clothing in this weather. Pls look for these. If you have any further query, contact me privately through lybraate.

Hello, My question is about my son aged about 10 years and his problem is, he has no control over his bowels/ he acts as he is unaware or what is his problem we are not able to understand, he will almost shit in his pants when he is back from school. He is not very regular in his daily motions, he will go in afternoon/ sometimes will not go will go the next day. He hogs on food particularly non-veg, Please suggest how to over come this problem.

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
It seems child is not given toilet. I would advise you to be patience and start teaching him now. Daily morning he must be given a glass ful of lukewarm water. Visit to toilet. Give him green veggie food as fibers in food help in motion. Do not scold him and nor irritate him. By the way how he is at school.

Tetanus - Why You Need To Get Your Child Vaccinated Against It?

Fellowship in Neonatology, MRCPCH(UK), Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Tetanus - Why You Need To Get Your Child Vaccinated Against It?

It is the first vaccine that the doctor will ask your child to get if he/she gets wound. Tetanus is a rare but severe condition which occurs when bacteria enter into an open wound. It can turn fatal if left untreated, so you need to follow the vaccination schedule in order to control the infection. Indulging in substance abuse (especially the ones that require injecting with syringes) increases the risk of tetanus.

Causes
This disorder is caused by the bacteria called ‘Clostridium tetani’. The bacterium is known to survive for an extended period outside the body, and is found in places such as soil and the manure of cows and horses. The bacteria enter the body through a wound, multiply rapidly and then release a toxin. This toxin causes muscle spasms and stiffness, thus affecting your nerves. The bacteria can enter the body through cuts, burns, animal bites, body piercings and eye injuries. However, this disorder is not contagious.

Symptoms
The symptoms of this disease can take 5-20 days to develop fully in the body. Your child may experience symptoms such as a rise in the body temperature, sweating, rapid heartbeats, muscle spasms and stiffening of the jaw muscles. These symptoms will worsen if left untreated, eventually leading to cardiac arrest or suffocation in some cases.

Treatment
If your child has a wound, the first step is to administer an injection of tetanus immunoglobulin. Tetanus immunoglobulin contains antibodies that effectively kill the tetanus bacteria. In case the symptoms start, then the child might need to be admitted to a hospital. Here, antibiotics and muscle relaxants are administered and breathing support may also be provided if required.

The preventive measure of this disorder is to be vaccinated against the ‘tetanus’ bacteria. The vaccine consists of five injections that are administered in a specific order. Once the entire course has been completed, it usually provides lifelong protection against the tetanus bacteria. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pediatrician.

My son is 11 years old. He is taking juice of neem leaves from the age of 4 years twice every week. It may cause any harm?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Don't worry, if it has not caused any problem during last 7 years, it will most probably not cause in future too. Let your son do whatever he likes. If worried too much you can see ayurved specialist for more details.
