I am diabetic. I am using metformin gluconorm 500mg. I am doing Brest feeding also. I just want 2 know that whether this tablet effect any thing to my baby. She is 2 month only.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Lybrate-user, taking metformin while breast feeding the baby, produces no effects on baby's blood glucose level. A number of clinical studies have reported that metformin taken while breast feeding a baby does not affect the baby adversely at all. So you need not worry about it. Thanks for the question.

I am 29 years old male I have gone through thyroid test and my report is as follows T3- 101 T4 - 4 TSH-6.82 Is it normal or I should take some medicine for increased TSH.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user Pandey, TSH 6.82 mU/L, is just above the normal limit. It can be classified as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Usually no treatment is required. If you are having any specific symptoms which can be attributed to that condition, then treatment with thyroxine may be needed. Thanks.

Can I know that what is sugar blood pressure and heart attack I can understand this matters please help.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Blood has sugar in it to give us energy to live, if it exceeds certain levels, it is diabetes due to type 1 or type 2. Blood pressure is pressure with which blood runs in blood vessels, if it runs too fast because there are obstructions in vessels or there is a kind of kidney disease present, pressure becomes high and it is called high bp, heart attack is when blood supply to heart muscle is affected due to blockages in its blood vessels, heart tissue gets damaged and it is called heart attack.

I am 38 year old prediabetes. I want to know whether I can take sugarfree (sucralose) regularly in my tea and other recipe. I got confused because in corporate hospitals like forte, Medanta dietician do give sugarfree to the patients admitted in hospital .But in these day I read on some website that it is very harmful. Even it causes weight gain more than sugar because it is 200 times more sweeter than sugar.

Hello, I would advice you to have tea with minimum quantity of sugar (1/2 tsp) in 1 cup (even if you have diabetes) or rather have it sugarless. Artificial sweeteners are not a healthy choice.

My daughter is a type 1 diabetic patients. She is getting low most of the time .in that condition she is eating sweets and even drinking glucose and juices. But yet sugar level is not increasing. What should be done to increase the sugar level.

MBBS, CCEBDM
Diabetologist, Bangalore
Hi Recurrent low sugars can be because of high insulin dose. Especially with long acting insulin it takes time to increase blood sugars. If she has these problems again and again please consult for insulin dose change. And for now she may require intravenous glucose and.close monitoring of blood sugars.

My mother is a BP & Sugar patient for last 9yrs. Usually her average monthly Sugar check stands at around Fasting 116 & PP 175. But for last 3months her Fasting sugar showing around 150-160 & PP showing around 180-190. Though our regular physician has changed earlier tablets and also increased the doses with the new tablets, but still her fasting sugar level is not coming down. Please suggest us something. Her tablets for sugar are: 1) GLIMEPIRIDE & METFORMIN HYDROCHLORIDE (SR) Brand Name: GLIMESTAR M1.(1tab before breakfast and 1 tab before dinner). 2) VOGLIBOSE TABLETS IP. Brand Name: VOGLIMAC 0.3 (1 tab before breakfast/before lunch & also before dinner).

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user kumar, the present treatment looks quite good. Fasting and pp levels are a bit high, but those can be managed by following a more strict diet and exercise schedule. I feel there is no further need to add any drugs. Her bmi is 27.55 kg/ m2, which shows she is overweight. Her ideal body weight should be 59 kgs. So all her food intake (calories) should be calculated considering that weight and extent of daily physical exercise and blood sugar levels. Even if she reduces 5 to 7 kgs, sugar level and bp will improve. So please look at that aspect rather than just adding one more drug. With regards.

You have not mentioned your height. For diabetes you need to avoid sugar, jaggery and honey. In fruits you need to restrict banana, chickoo, mango, sitaphal, watermelon, sugarcane, muskmelon, grapes etc. Yo0u need to avoid deep fried foods like farsan and namkeen etc. In vegetables you need to restrict potato, sweet potato, yam, beetroot and carrot etc. Try to consume more of salad, Vegetables and whole grains. Eat small and frequent meals. Do not consume any of your meal heavy. Start taking fenugreek seeds whole or powder in the morning as it will help you keeping your sugar up to normal. Do more of yoga, breathing exercises and weight loss exercises under expert's observation. Your HBA1C should be 5 or below.

If my sugar fasting is 140 and after breakfast two hour it is 150 still can I control with diet or medicine is compulsory.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user, according to diagnostic criteria if fasting is >126 mg it is considered diabetes. Similarly if pp is>200 mg it is diabetes. Between 141 to 199 mg it is pre diabetic state. So it looks like you are having prediabetes. This can be definitely be controlled by diet and exercise. If you really adapt the modified lifestyle with balanced and restricted diet and regular exercise, refraining form alcohol and smoking, avoiding junk foods and pastries, you can remain free from diabetes for a considerable time. With regards.
