What all things we've to do to recovery from dengue fever? And what about food we eat?

MBBS, Diploma in Cardiac Emergencies in General Practice
General Physician,
What all things we've to do to recovery from dengue fever? And what about food we eat?
Dengue is a viral disease. So, as is true with other viral fevers, after the active disease fades it causes soreness of the body especially, lethargy, weakness, etc. There is no known treatment for dengue fever except for hydration. We have to concentrate on maintaining adequate hydration. Papaya leaves have proven to be very effective in bringing up the platelet count and white blood cell count. Have food which has high water content for example: Fruits: Watermelon and strawberries contain about 92 percent water per volume. Other fruits with high water content include grapefruit with 91 percent, can notaloupe with 90 percent and peaches with 88 percent water. Fruits containing 87 percent water by weight include pineapple, cranberries, orange and raspberries. The water content for apples and pears is 84 percent. Cherries and grapes contain an average of 81 percent water. And, a banana’s composition includes 74 percent water. Vegetables: On top of the vegetables list are cucumber and lettuce, consisting of 96 percent water. Zucchini, radish and celery are comprised of 95 percent water. Ninety-four percent of tomato's weight is water, and green cabbage is 93 percent water. Vegetables that contain 92 percent water include cauliflower, eggplant, peppers and spinach. Broccoli is 91 percent water by weight. Additional healthy hydrating foods include carrots with 87 percent water and green peas and white potatoes with 79 percent water.

I had sex two days ago, usually we do it once every couple of days, but this time it was after a week, we did it once, and I noticed I released loads of sperms, later in evening, during the second session, I noticed, while releasing, I shot a blank, no sperms ejaculated, this had never happened ever before and I am worried, please help.

Sex culminates with ejaculation i.e. release of sperms. If second session did not have too much time in between, it is normal to pass little to no sperms. Be rest assured.

Severe body pain can be due to following reasons: 1. Viral infections, such as common cold, influenza, diarrhoea, etc. 2. Inadequate rest/sleep. 3. Excessive stress. 4. Low levels of vitamin D. 5. Low levels of haemoglobin. 6. Muscle or bone diseases. Once identified, body ache can be easily treated. Please don't ignore body ache, while mostly innocuous, makes sense ruling out other troublesome issues.

If you are suffering from cold and cough often, most like seems like allergy problem. It may be either allergy to climate change, cold or sour stuff, dust, pollen, strong odours etc. Simple antiallergic medications and staying away from the allergens can provide relief from the symptoms. If cough and cold are associated with fever or breathlessness then you should go to a doctor and get yourself checked. For your height, weight seems less. You have to do certain blood tests to rule out any metabolic reasons for you low weight. Once the test come clear, these things can be tried: 1. Don't drink water before meals. This can fill your stomach and make it harder to get in enough calories. 2. Eat more often. 3. Drink milk. 4. Try high calorie shakes. 5. Use bigger plates. 6. Add cream to your beverage. 7. Get quality sleep. 8. Get into a exercise regime. Once you gain weight you will gain confidence and feel good about yourself.

It can be a case of hormone imbalance in your system. The medications like unwanted 72 have high doses of synthetic progestin, Levonorgestrel (hormone). The side effects of this medicine include the irregular menstrual bleeding that you are having. Don't worry. Get a ultrasound done if in doubt.

MBBS, Diploma in Cardiac Emergencies in General Practice
General Physician,
I am getting drop out very quickly which intercourse with my partner. Pls suggest.
What you are referring to is called premature ejaculation. Most cases of premature ejaculation do not have a clear cause. With sexual experience and age, men often learn to delay orgasm. Premature ejaculation may occur with a new partner. It may happen only in certain sexual situations or if it has been a long time since the last ejaculation. Psychological factors such as anxiety, guilt, or depression can also cause it. In some cases, it may be related to a medical cause such as hormonal problems, injury, or a side effect of certain medicines. In many cases premature ejaculation gets better on its own over time. Treatment may not be needed. Practicing relaxation techniques or using distraction methods may help you delay ejaculation. For some men, stopping or cutting down on the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs may improve how well they can control ejaculation.

In summer season or with inadequate water intake, urine becomes concentrated and that's when you are prone to urinary tract infections. This gives rise to increased frequency of urination and prickly sensation while passing urine. Just increase your water intake and have urinary alkaliser diluted with water. If symptoms persist, visit a doctor as he may recommend an antibiotic.

There is no need to get rid of the habit as it is not harmful. The problem is you are doing it as a compulsive act and are obsessed with it. You need to engage yourself in some other activity or hobby when you feel like doing it and you will be just fine. Don't worry you're normal and what you are doing is very common which can be easily controlled.

Are Sanitisers Doing More Harm Than Good

MBBS, Diploma in Cardiac Emergencies in General Practice
General Physician,
Are Sanitisers Doing More Harm Than Good

Next time you apply sanitizer on your hands, please consider these facts:

Check the alcohol content and the bottle says it kills all the germs on your hands. But there is a catch here. For it to act properly, the concentration of the alcohol in the bottle needs to be above 60%.

Not so good for kids and we all know that kids come with the increased liability of touching unclean things and putting their hands in their mouths. And helicopter moms have found the new age solution to their woes - hand sanitizers. But, if you have ever read the fine print behind the bottle you will see a warning telling you to keep it away from kids. That is because your child could be seriously harmed if he/she ingested it. There have been a number of reported incidences of alcohol poisoning in children due to hand sanitizers. Added to the risk is the fact that kids tend to put things in their mouths - and the sweet, fruity odour only makes them want to consume it even more. So, keep your kids away from the stuff and if you do use hand sanitizers make sure you make them use it in front of you.

Can lower your child's immunity:in a study published in the science daily, it and found that a child's immunity is seriously affected by the use of hand sanitizers. They found that more kids were falling ill due to innocuous and preventable diseases after the long term use of the agent. They concluded that ultra clean environments during the early stages of a child's life lowers their immunity to such a level that their body's defence mechanism is in a constant fighting mode, which leads to weakened immunity. This causes serious effects when they grow older as well, these adults have a weak immune system and an extremely sensitive inflammatory response that makes them vulnerable to various diseases as adults.

Triclosan in some sanitizers can wreak havoc on your health some hand sanitizers don't have alcohol content and use triclosan instead. Triclosan is an anti bacterial and anti fungal agent and is commonly used in a variety of soaps and cleaning agents. But, it is also an active ingredient in pesticides. Triclosan, as a component, is capable of quickly being absorbed into the skin and entering the blood stream, once there, it is known to cause various side effects like cancer, allergies, hormonal and neurological ill effects and muscle weakness. More importantly, it is known to cause infertility.

That sweet smell can be highly toxic: that odour of sanitizers that you love so much is due to the inclusion of a compound called phthalates. These compounds easily leach into foods and then into your body. So using a sanitizer instead of soap before your meal might not be that good an idea.

Does not clean all residue: after using a hand sanitizer you might feel that your hands are clean, but it does not take off all the residue. Things like fats and sugar deposits do not get affected or cleaned without the use of soap. So using it as a method to clean your hands after eating that yummy cheese popcorn will do you no good. In fact these residues tend to pick up more dirt, making your hands dirtier than before.

Can damage skin while most hand sanitizers do claim to have moisturising effects, too much or continuous use of the agent can damage the skin.

So go easy on that fancy sanitizer.
