I am not getting erection at all from last 2 years. Excitement is completely absent. Sometimes get morning erections. What is the causes for ED and how much time it takes to get cured?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
I am not getting erection at all from last 2 years. Excitement is completely absent. Sometimes get morning erections....
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition in which man has trouble in keeping or getting an erection. It is a common male sexual dysfunction. It becomes more common as you get older but it is not a part of aging. MECHANISM OF ERECTION An erection starts in the brain. Physical and mental stimulation is required for an erection to begin. This stimulation causes nerves in the brain to send chemical messages to nerves which are present in the penis which results in the free flow of blood into the penis. This leads to high pressure in the penis which in turn traps the blood within both corpora cavernosa and then the penis expand. This causes the penis to sustain an erection. When the inflow of blood is stopped, then it opens outflow channels and then penis becomes soft. Then an erection is said to be reversed. CAUSES OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION Erection is a complex process which involves hormones, brain, emotions, muscles, nerves and blood vessels. Problem with any one of these can lead to erectile dysfunction. Sometimes stress and mental health can also lead to erectile dysfunction. Combination of Physical and Psychological issues can lead to erectile dysfunction. PHYSICAL CAUSES OF ED • Heart disease, high blood pressure, High cholesterol. • Parkinson's disease, obesity, alcoholism, atherosclerosis. • Use of tobacco, surgeries that affect the pelvic area or spinal cord. • Treatments for prostate cancer. PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES OF ED: Depression, anxiety, stress and other mental health conditions are some of the psychological issues which causes erectile dysfunction. SYMPTOMS OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION • Trouble in getting erection • Difficulty in keeping erection • Reduced sexual desire As you do not have any of these disease you only have to peacefully go forward and in due time erection will be ther and stop being anxious about it

Slim Women, Health & Myths

MPTh/MPT, BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Mumbai
Myth 1: Working out would make me even thinner!

We always have an astonished reaction to this one! Contrary to the myth, when designed properly, workout programmes can help you gain some good weight which is mainly muscle. Who doesn’t want to get stronger?

Myth 2: Lifting weights is going to make me a bulky woman!

Absolutely not! Not if you don’t want to. Designing the programme is the key here. Working out could improve your flexibility, muscular endurance and stamina without causing any muscular hypertrophy / growth.

Myth 3: Why do I need to do weights? I am already in shape!

One of the most common menopausal disorders found in women is OSTEOPOROSIS which is characterized by reduced bone strength. It is commonly seen in the “Fragile/ thin” elderly women. Research shows us, women who lift weights during their 20’s to 30’s are less susceptible to osteoporosis than those who do not. I would say to all those women who believe in this myth, DO IT FOR YOUR BONES, THEY WILL THANK YOU ONE DAY!

Myth 4: I can eat all I want because I am not going to get any fatter!

Unfortunately, this isn’t true. We wish it were, really. But it isn’t. Thinness is a genetic blessing to many but it is still important to eat healthy. Finally it is the cholesterol levels in your blood that will matter and they will be affected due to long term, faulty eating habits irrespective of body structure.

5: My daily chores burn enough energy. I do not need a gym!

American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least 30 minutes of “structured” physical activity on most days of the week for the “general” population. Neither does this definition include our day – to – day physical activity and nor does it differentiate between overweight and slim women.

We would like to conclude by highlighting that fitness is a group of performance attributes! Finally, it all boils down to the ease with which you climb up a flight of stairs or how effortlessly you can lift your own travel bags! Thus, irrespective of body type, structured exercise is a must for all women.

I am 27 years old unmarried. I had my first period when I was 15. I have irregular period cycle. I have one or two month gap in my periods and also have lower abdomen pain on first day of period. Will it be a problem in my pregnancy after marriage?

Hi The reasons for the irregular period are one of the following: Low functioning Thyroid, PCOD- polycystic ovarian disease, hormonal imbalance, obesity, depression or anxiety or any kind of mental stress. However, as long as you are ovulating you can still get pregnant so to regularise your period you need to undergo tests to clear these diagnoses and then start a specific treatment. If you have already been through all these tests and taken treatment without any success I would suggest that you take Jonosia Asoka mother tincture ten drops in 15 ml water three times on empty stomach for three days before the expected period date and also Senecio aureus 30 five pills weekly once for regularising your period Take Plenty of water and do exercise that makes you sweat for at least half an hour for five days a week minimum, take a diet rich in iron and vitamin D like dry fruits especially almonds, dates and figs, green leafy vegetables and fruits like papaya and pineapple.

Allergies Caused Due To Medications On The Skin

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Gurgaon
Allergies Caused Due To Medications On The Skin

All drugs carry within themselves the potential to treat and harm the skin. Side effects of medicines are a common phenomenon, with variation in the intensities. Sometimes they are minor and do not require medications; however at other times they may require urgent attention and treatment.

Some allergies caused due to medications that primarily affect your skin are:

  1. Itches and rashes: Sometimes your body may be allergic to certain type of medications. If these drugs are taken by you then the immune system treats them as foreign invasions and triggers a reaction against them. In certain cases, on consuming a drug that your body is allergic to, a kind of white blood cell called T cells expand. Itching, rashes on the skin are common repercussions in such a scenario.
  2. Swelling on the face and throat: Often it happens that, on being administered a medicine or an injection, you may experience severe swelling on face and throat. This is an extreme case of medicinal side effect and is commonly known as anaphylaxis. This must be immediately treated and brought to the notice of a trained doctor.
  3. Blisters: This is also an important potential side effect of a drug. On being administered a drug, you may experience an erosion on the surface of lips and eyes as a reaction against it. Immediate treatment and a visit to the doctor is imperative if you experience these symptoms.
  4. Swelling of the tongue: If you have high blood pressure and if you take angiotensin converting enzyme, a swollen tongue and persistent cough are the possible side effects.
  5. Flushing and itching: You may suffer from symptoms of flushing and itching as a possible side effect of the intravenous dyes that are used in the X-rays.

Hye. It seems like you are not taking the right foods at the right time as needed by the body. It's not essential to take a particular food but when you take it is very crucial. Eating raw eggs can be harmful to your gut. Your preworkout meal is needed to be assessed as you are lacking the sustained energy for your workout. You cannot pack all the nutrients into just 4 meals. For better digestion you may need to get a well planned diet for the day depending on your needs. It's possible that you are taking way too much proteins than your body needs. Just because you start going to the gym does not mean you start pushing weights or that you need to randomly push into your system all the possible protein rich foods. You need to go gradual with exercise as well as diet otherwise it's just going to be a stress on your body.

Hi - incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet while eliminating unhealthy foods. - if you are working or studying away from home, try to pack healthy lunch and snacks for yourself to avoid eating unhealthy food daily. - don't eat straight from the packet - use a plate or bowl to control how much you eat. - don't delay or skip meals. - cut down your consumption of aerated drinks and sodas. - drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Drink water after waking up and before sleeping. Being dehydrated may make you feel like you're hungry, so it is important to stay hydrated. - have homemade fruit and vegetable juices - eat 5-6 small healthy meals every 2-3 hours, every day, instead of having a few big ones. This regulates your blood sugar level and your metabolism. - don't skip breakfast, instead, make it rich with complex carbohydrates and proteins, so it can provide you with energy to get through the day. Try to include the following as your morning breakfast, oats porridge, eggs on multigrain toast or daliya with sprouts. - avoid artificial sweeteners in processed foods. - eat slowly as it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register if you're full or not. Eating too fast leads to overeating, so chew slowly to digest your food better and control how much you eat. - use a smaller plate to control your portion sizes and avoid overeating. - know your cravings and do not snack when you're emotional. It is said that you crave crunchy and savory food when you're stressed, frustrated or lonely. Figure out what you crave and replace them with healthier alternatives. - do not eat mindlessly; concentrate on your food instead of watching tv or playing with your phone to avoid overeating.
