I have teeth sensitivity from a week, what should I do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist,
I have teeth sensitivity from a week, what should I do?
A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Indications for Root Canal Treatment

Diploma In Cosmetic Dentistry, Advanced Aesthetics, BDS

Indications for Root Canal Treatment

Having your dentist say to you that you need a root canal, can be a daunting affair. This means that the pulp or soft tissue inside a tooth has been damaged by bacterial infection. A root canal involves removing the damaged pulp, cleaning the infection and filling in the emptied space. Not every tooth infection requires a root canal and hence it is essential to know the indication of a root canal.

Here are a few situations when a root canal may be needed:

  1. Pain: Discomfort ranging from a dull ache to a sharp pain can be a sign that you need root canal treatment. This type of pain is usually characterized by throbbing and may change as you switch positions. It is usually triggered by chewing, applying pressure on the tooth or eating something cold or hot. In some cases, the patient may not be able to indicate the exact tooth that is hurting but can only identify the painful area.
  2. Gun tenderness: Swelling that indicates the need of root canal treatment can range from being slightly red and inflamed to pronounced lumps on the gums. In some extreme cases, this swelling may extend out of the gums into the face and neck region. Sometimes, a pus filled boil with a pimple like head may also form on the gums. If this head bursts, the patient may notice a foul taste in the mouth. This swelling can come and go as the tooth decay deteriorates and may or may not be accompanied by pain. Teeth may also feel like they have been pushed out of their sockets and are taller than usual.
  3. Tooth discolouration: Discolouring of teeth can be a sign of internal tooth damage. This is especially noted if the teeth take on a dark yellow, grey or blackish tint. Tooth discolouration is fairly common in cases where the tooth has undergone trauma such as an accident etc.
  4. Exposure of the dental nerves: At times during regular dental work, the nerves in the tooth may be exposed. This indicates an exposure of pulp tissue and can trigger pulp degeneration if left untreated.

However, all of the above symptoms can be symptoms of other types of dental problems as well and do not necessarily individually indicate the need for a root canal. Only a dentist can properly diagnose a need for root canal treatment after a physical examination and testing.

Kindly get scaling and polishing done and if you want you can also get bleaching done. Brush your teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique to maintain your oral hygiene. More than the toothpaste it is the correct brushing technique to maintain your oral hygiene.

My teeths are yellow i brush daily what else should i do to get whiteness soon?

BDS
Dentist,
The shade of the teeth vary just as skin tone varies from person to person. If there are external stains or deposits then they can easily be removed by cleaning (scaling) and polishing. If you wish to change the shade of your teeth then that too can be done safely by bleaching. In the meanwhile you can use a polishing toothpaste and avoid excessively coloured food. Hope this helps. Do visit your dentist who can advise you better after a thorough check up

Hi , I had widow teeth nut that teeth is coverd by sidelayer skin and that teeth is broken it to pieces twice now I am unable to chew right side due to skin covered the teeth please help me with a solution.

MDS - Orthodontics, MDS
Dentist, Zirakpur
If i correctly understand Sunil .You have a wisdom tooth that is partially chipped or #ed.Usually in such a case when the skin covers the tooth .Its b coz there is insufficient space of the teeth to erupt .Extraction of the tooth is the only choice and a sane one at that coz food will keep accumulating between the wisdom tooth and tooth in front damaging the both teeth.Hope this helps

I have bad breath problem. I have observed that soon after drinking milk the problem of bad breath starts. This happens even after brushing teeth and cleaning tongue. I got the regular check up and scaling done at more than 1 Dentist. Dentists don't have a clue why I have this bad breath problem.

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Noida
Bad breath has many causes, most common cause is any respiratory infection with post nasal sinusitis, second most common cause is due to Gastrointestinal issues( stomach issues),3rd one are teeth and there are many more. It looks like your bad breath is not related to your dentition. Most likely cause( with the kind of history you have written ) seems to be acidity or any other stomach problem.

I am having difficulties swallowing food and water. And the end of my mouth is hurting badly. Please help

BDS, Non-Resident J.R. in Dept. of Orthodontics, Certified oral implantologist, Advanced Aesthetics, Digital Smile Designer
Dentist, Jammu
You might be haiving third molar erupting in your mouth called as pericoronitis. The difficulty in swallowing and drinking can be because of this. Symptoms of pericoronitis can include: pain infection swelling in the gum tissue (caused by an accumulation of fluid) a" bad taste" in the mouth (caused by pus leaking from the gums) swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck difficulty opening the mouth if the pericoronitis is limited to the tooth (for example, if the pain and swelling has not spread), treat it by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water. You should also make sure that the gum flap has no food trapped under it. If your tooth, jaw, and cheek are swollen and painful, see your dentist right away. He or she can treat the infection with antibiotics (usually penicillin, unless you are allergic). You can also take pain relievers such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen. The dentist may also prescribe a pain medication. If the pain and inflammation are severe, or if the pericoronitis recurs, it may be necessary to have oral surgery to remove the gum flap or wisdom tooth. Your dentist can make the appropriate referral to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. A low-level laser can be used to reduce pain and inflammation associated with pericoronitis.

Hi the main aim of rct is to remove all pulp and fill the vacant space left in canals by root canal filling material and to seal the apex (the end of root canal). So even if there is a broken instrument in the canal, if the apex of that canal is sealed by bypassing the canal, there is no chance of pain or inflammation. But if the canal is left untreated because apex is not reachable due to blockage by broken file, then the vacant space left is a source of bacterial infection and can cause trouble in the future. The tooth has to be kept in observation. It may not lead to cancer but in some cases, open apex can lead to cyst formation. In that case, the root is sectioned and filling done from apex side to seal it. This procedure is called apicoectomy. Or last resort, tooth is removed.
