Try resting for a couple of days, supplement with hot/cold fomentation of the back 3-4 times a day. Routine pain killers would help alleviate the pain after which you could start with back and core strengthening exercises as recommended by a physiotherapist. Avoid bending forwards and lifting heavy weights.

Continue your physiotherapy and avoid bending forward and lifting heavy weights, do regular back and core strengthenin exercise, take a healthy diet of calcium and vitamin d usually slipped discs regress on their own in a period of 6 to 8 months.

The pain in your neck/back is due to the spondylosis as you know. It's called axial back pain. The only remedy which isn't definitive in its own right is physiotherapy exercises (back and core strengthening exercises) along with hot /cold fomentation 3-4 times a day. Go for early morning walks in sunshine to maintain body levels of vitamin d, take a diet rich in calcium and vit d e. G eggs, milk, nonveg food if possible and fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid straining your back too much by bending forwards too much or lifting heavy weights. These measures would surely decrease the back pain if not completely resolve it. If the pain is associated with any tingling numbness or weakness in any of the limbs or you get any fever or weight loss, kindly consult an orthopaedician for appropriate work up. Hope this helps.

You might be suffering from osteoarthritis for the confirmation of which we would need to do a clinical examination and an x-ray. In the meanwhile you should start using western toilets only, avoid squatting or sitting cross legged at all. Start taking a diet rich in calcium and vitamin d like eggs, non veg food if possible, take an early morning walk in sunlight which help replenish your body stores of vit. D the deformity of your knees would have to be assessed on an x-ray and if found to be severe arthritis you might have to undergo a replacement. You should start the conservative treatment I suggested and follow up. Hope his helps.

My neck hurts when I wake up in the morning. I sleep without pillow and we changed from spring mattress to ordinary mattress two months ago due to my neck pain. It is not as bad as it was when I slept on spring mattress but I don't feel fresh in the morning because of the pain. I usually sleep on my back than on my sides. No injuries.

Use cotton mattresses, as the last resort to your problem. You might be having axial neck pain due to spondylosis, for which you need to do neck stretching and strengthening exercises as advised by a good physiotherapist. Early morning walk in sunshine will help replenish your body stores of vit. D, a deficiency of which causes the body aches, lethargy and general fatigue. Take a diet rich in calcium and vit. D like egges, milk, non veg food, papaya, spinacha, ragi, soyabean etc. Hope this helps.

Ansh my son age appx 4year having knees locking problem is there any therapy or any other method to get it rectify.
Most likely he has rickets, for the confirmation of which we will need to get an xray done of the wrist and his knees to see for the status of his metaphsyis. Take him for early morning walks alongwith you and allow him to remain in the sunshine for about an hour. Feed him lots of milk and kindly consult an orthopedician to get prescription for the calcium and vit. D supplements. Teh deformity looks unsightly but it goes away entirely as his stores of vit. D and calcium will get replenished. Hope this helpps.

I am having pain at neck and shoulders region when I am carrying weights. Is dis prblm is related to calcium deficiency and what should I do.

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics, DNB (Orthopedics)
Orthopedist, Mumbai
This could be due to cervical spondylosis in which you should avoid carrying such heavy weights. A cervical spine xray will help diagnose the condition. Calcium and the associated vit. D deficiency leads to generalised pain and feeling of fatigue in body longwith nonspecific muscle pains etc.

I am experiencing a sensation like something is crawling up my right thigh for the past week. It occurs when I am standing and looking ahead or when reclining in a chair or lying down. However the sensation disappears when I bend forward when sitting or standing. I have cervical spondylosis but mild condition.

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics, DNB (Orthopedics)
Orthopedist, Mumbai
This sensation is due to the compression of the nerves caused by your spondylosis. A remedy would be to start back/core strengthening exercises as suggested by a good physiotherapist, take liberal amounts of vit. D and calcium through milk and eggs, non veg food if possible. We would need an xray of both the cervical and lumbar spine +/- mri of the spine to confirm the condition and suggest an appropriate cure to your condition. Hope this helps.

Due to pott spine my D8-D9 got infected so I have done spine fusion surgery and it was done 6 months ago. So have two question. 1) can I remove spine instruments that was placed in my spine and if not there will be any side effects from this? 2) please suggest me precautions.

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics, DNB (Orthopedics)
Orthopedist, Mumbai
Firstly you need to complete the akt that has been started, religiously following the schedule. Secondly, the implants can be removed once your spine has fused compeletely and it can be confirmed on xrays and if you so wish but really there is no need to remove them and they can remain lifelong. Thirdly regarding your concern for precautions to be taken are: eat high proteinaceous diet of pulses, non veg food and lots of milk, avoid heavy duty ctivities like sports or lifting heavy weights etc. And remember to visit your surgeon regularly for follow up. Hope this helps.

Hello dear, you seem to have a complete gr. 3 acl tear, as shown by the mri, which is now a days a very common injury sustained while playing games like football or involving a fall etc. Nowadays treatment for this type of injury is fairly simple and it involves an arthroscopic acl reconstruction using tendon grafts from your own thigh muscles, namely the semitendinosus and the gracilis muscles. After the surgery you will be pain free and be able to resume your day to day activities within 5-6 weeks time and return to sports and other activities in about 6-9 months time. Hope this helps.

I started going to gym from 4th April. From that day I have pain in my back and shoulders. What should I do?
Try and slowly increase the intensity of your workouts, ask your gym trainer to make you do a longer warm-up before you commence on the exercises. Remember to take lots of fluids like water or even energy drinks to avoid dehydration and also maintain your supply of glucose to burn out in the gym and also help prevent cramping up. If you are having severe pain niw, I would advise you to avoid going to the gym for 4-5 days and slowly resume while doing all of the above. Hope this helps.

Hello lybrate-user. Kindly elaborate on your problem, how long it has been, how severe it is, is it more on working and eases out after rest or is it continuous throughout the day, any associated weight loss or fever.
