5 Sure Shot Ways To Keep Your Heart Healthy!

5 Sure Shot Ways To Keep Your Heart Healthy!

The heart is one part of your body that pumps blood relentlessly; to be grateful to the most important organ, it’s your duty to look after its health. Cardiovascular diseases and heart ailments can be prevented by making minor changes in your lifestyle.

Here are a few tips to keep your heart healthy:

  1. Add fiber to your dietMaking fiber a part of your regular diet is a great idea as the heart works best when it runs on natural fuel. You can achieve this by adding more raw fruits and vegetables in your meals as they are an excellent source of fiber and nutrients.
  2. Engage in physical activity: Your heart is a muscle and to make it healthier, you need some form of physical exercise. Engaging in cardiovascular forms of exercise for an hour daily keeps your heart in good condition. Engaging in physical activity also reduces the risk of getting a heart disease and acts as a stress buster.
  3. Cut down on the salt intake: The sodium content in salt disrupts the balance of fluids in your body leading to high blood pressure. This can affect the functioning of the heart; that is to pump blood, which is a major cause of a heart attack. So, cutting down on salt can reduce stress and the risks of heart attacks.
  4. Manage your weight: People on the overweight side run a risk of getting heart diseases more often than fit and leaner ones as they tend to be more inactive and sluggish. The heart diseases caused due to obesity can be avoided by making minor changes to your diet and exercising on a daily basis.
  5. Quit smokingIf you are a regular smoker, quitting is the best thing you can do for your heart. The main reason for coronary heart diseases is nicotine present in the cigarette. Once, you quit smoking completely, you will be 50% less likely to run the risks of a heart attack as compared to a regular smoker.

This medicine is ok. Measure BP only once every month on fixed date after resting for ten minutes. If it is less than 140 very good, if it is more than 170, discuss with Doctor.

Latest research and evidence based studies point out towards health benefits of both Desi-Ghee and Coconut oil. In fact you should consume these in place of refined oils but take care that the quantities need to be monitored.

I suffer from triglyceride since 2002. Medicines didn't respond. I am taking no medicine from 2003 onwards. My periodic ECG, EEG, TMT etc. Are normal. I never have had any breathlessness, angina etc. I walk 5 kms. Daily with brisk pace without any problem. I avoid sugar, fat and meat etc. Last lipid test reported TG at 650. For last 3 years I have elevated ESR around 36 to 42. Doctors say it is due to inflammation. But I don't have any sign of it, like joint pain, gout, lupus, fibromyalgia, cough, fever or any such symptoms. My KFT, LFT and CBC are normal. Chest Xray is ok. But I tested positive for mantoux test. I don't have any symptoms of Cox, like cough, fever, weight loss, loss of appetite or tiredness. I feel vigorous and fit. Would raised TG and ESR pose any problem in my advanced age. I am free from any type of indications whatsoever for last 15 years with highly raised TG and elevated ESR. Please suggest in best possible way.

Hi lybrate-user, Mantoux test detects previous exposure to tuberculosis. A positive Mantoux test cannot be used to diagnose active tuberculosis. Anti-tuberculous therapy is generally indicated to treat active tuberculosis. Active tuberculosis is said to be present when the affected person has signs and symptoms compatible with an active disease (this will depend on the site of the body affected). It appears from the description provided by you that you do not have active disease. Latent tuberculosis - where the person previously exposed to tuberculosis may harbour some bacteria in a dormant state is generally not an indication for anti-tuberculous therapy unless the person is at significant risk of disease reactivation due to underlying conditions (defects in immunity due to disease or medication). For occupational reasons screening for active TB is indicated, however treatment is generally recommended only for those with active disease. Some anti-tuberculous medications may interfere with contraceptive pills due to drug interactions however, if chosen carefully they do not generally interfere with pregnancy. It is better that you get a second opinion from a specialist experienced in the management of tuberculosis. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
