Dear Lybrateuser, - You can try some lifestyle measures to lower your BP:- have a salt restricted diet, avoid fried, processed & junk foods, also pickles, papads & namkeens, restrict intake of tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day if you have more, avoid alcohol & smoking if you do - have more of fibre containing foods such as fruits, vegetables including green leafy & seasonal ones, whole grains like whole wheat, brown rice, oats, quinoa instead of refined ones, legumes, sprouts, a handful of unsalted nuts, have low fat milk & dairy products - have heart healthy fats as in fish like tuna, salmon, mackeral, olive & canola oil for cooking, nuts, avocados & seeds such as flax, chia & sesame - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, cycling for 20-30 min daily - also do yoga, meditation & deep breathing for 10-15 min in the morning to relax your mind & body - sleep well for at least 7-8 hrs at night, keep your sleep and wake up time fixed - de-stress by listening to light music or reading or following a hobby - reduce weight by diet and exercise if you are overweight - monitor BP regularly.

Left Ventricular Assist Device - What Exactly Is It?

MBBS, MRCP (UK), PG Diploma In Lipid Management, MBA (Healthcare)
Cardiologist, Bangalore
Left Ventricular Assist Device - What Exactly Is It?

A left ventricular assist device is an electromechanical device used in cases of advanced heart failure. In later stages of heart failure when the heart is weakened and no longer able to pump the necessary amount of blood, a left ventricular assist device can be surgically implanted to assist the heart’s functions.

A left ventricular assist device is often used as a short term solution and is different from a pacemaker, which is a long term cardiac assist device. The cases in which a left ventricular assist device is often used are:

  • As a temporary solution while a cardiac failure patient is on a transplant list or otherwise waiting for a heart transplant.
  • During recovery from cardiac surgery when the heart is not strong enough to function on its own. The device would soon be removed as the patient recovers.
  • During recovery from heart attacks

Having a left ventricular assist device implanted gives the heart time to rest and recover, leading you to the point where your heart can go back to functioning on its own. However, there are cases where a left ventricular assist device can be implanted as a long term solution. This treatment is called Destination Therapy and requires implanting a left ventricular assist device for several months or several years.

How a Left Ventricular Assist Device works?
A Left Ventricular Assist Device can only be surgically implanted. It has both internal and external components with a pump attached to your heart and a controller on the outside of the body. The pump is attached to the heart with a tube that directs blood into the aorta. The pump and the controller are connected through a cable called the driveline. Since the Left Ventricular Assist Device is powered by electricity or batteries, a power source is also worn outside the body and is attached to the controller, powering both the controller and the pump.

How a Left Ventricular Assist Device can affect your lifestyle?
Many people around the world have Left Ventricular Assist Devices implanted on both a temporary and permanent basis. While a person should be resting while recovering from a heart attack or cardiac surgery, it is possible to go about your normal daily life whilst having a Left Ventricular Assist Device implanted. While certain exercises and stress should be avoided when having a heart condition or when implanted with a Left Ventricular Assist Device, with carrying cases for power sources and controller that can operate from various different power sources, it is easy to live a normal productive life.

Homeopathic remedies for various kinds of chest pain

Homeopathy is one of the most popular holistic systems of medicine. The selection of remedy is based upon the theory of individualization and symptoms similarity. This is the only way through which a state of complete health can be regained by removing all the sign and symptoms from which a patient is suffering.

The aim of homeopathy is not only to treat chest pain, but to address its underlying cause and individual susceptibility of the patient. For this patient’s current symptoms, past medical history and family history are taken into account. There are many homeopathic remedies which cover the symptoms of chest pain and can be selected on the basis of cause, location, sensation, modalities and extension of the pain. For individualized remedy selection and treatment of chest pain, the patient should consult a qualified homeopathic doctor in person. In medical emergencies like myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism, immediate hospitalization is usually required. Some important remedies are given below for the treatment of chest pain:

Change diet and lifestyle first .Next change your doctor if he is not offering natural solutions to reverse high blood pressure without any medications and telling you to take medicines lifelong which is wrong unless you have developed the complications of high blood pressure. Hypertension is a lifestyle disease which needs only lifestyle solution through diet, changes in lifestyle and education about the disease and never medication BP medicines can cause serious side effects .Your Doctor is never going to talk about this. Read in depth about it before you take your medicines. Do not get misguided and land up in more complications. Reversible causes of BP like Mineral, Vitamin deficiency, Thyroid disease ,Anxiety, Stress etc needs to be fixed which will cure your high BP Doctors lack, nutrition knowledge, have vested monetary interests and do incomplete lab testing and do not offer natural solutions. Never believe in the lies told by doctors that you have to take BP medicines lifelong. They are completely misguiding you. 1) Detailed history including dietary & lifestyle habits needed in addition to medical, occupational, environment ,and family history 2) Comprehensive lab testing needed which should have tests for inflammation and mineral deficiency. Master health check ups done in high tech hospitals and labs are incomplete because they are doing what they want and not what your body actually needs .That is the reason your tests are normal but you are not normal and end up online doing doctor shopping. Send feedback with name ,contact number and take consultation, if you want to reverse your high BP without medication. Avoid complications of both elevated Blood pressure and the Medicines by taking a consultation and Get rid of your elevated BP and BP medications for ever .Get educated and never medicated for your BP which would happen only with a consultation and correct advice.
