You can most probably reverse your BP and probable Diabetes by diet and life style changes. Cut down on carbs Eat a high fibre diet Sleep well start juicing --Only Vegetable juicing 90% which will reduce your BP and sugar and you will be able to reduce the dose with proper advice. This concept is not yet popular in India because doctors s do not know nutrition because it is not taught in medical curriculum. Patient mind set also has to change because they are never told about alternative options and they do not get educated about their health issues Remember You cannot fix your health without fixing your diet. You are what you eat eats. So if you need specific advice take a consult.

Cholesterol - 6 Interesting Facts About It!

Cholesterol - 6 Interesting Facts About It!

Do you know that cholesterol is found in baby formula and has got some surprising facts about them? Cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance which is present in all your cells, and your body’s cholesterol level says a lot about the health of your heart in the future. Having high cholesterol increases your risk of acquiring heart diseases and hence, you should try to maintain a normal cholesterol level.

Here are some surprising facts about cholesterol, which you should know about:

  1. You cannot live without cholesterol: We are born with cholesterol in our bodies and infants get more cholesterol from mother’s milk. This is why cholesterol is added to baby formula. All the hormones and cells of your body need cholesterol for proper functioning. It also builds the cells and helps the liver to prepare fat processing acids.
  2. One out of three adults have high cholesterol: It is important for all people above the age of 20 to get a cholesterol checkup every five years. According to studies, around 32% of adults in the USA have got high cholesterol levels. Your cholesterol levels may also be affected by factors such as your diet and stress.
  3. High cholesterol can be genetic: Genetics is a major influencing factor in high cholesterol levels. Research has proven that almost 75% of high cholesterol cases are genetic in nature while 25% occur because of diet.
  4. Children can have high cholesterol as well: There is a common misconception that high cholesterol is an issue involving adults only. However, children may also have high cholesterol and it is recommended for you to get your child tested at an early age. For children who are obese and have a family history of heart attacks and high cholesterol, a selective screening is important.
  5. Sweating raises the levels of good cholesterol: Sweating is good for increasing the levels of good cholesterol in your body. You should follow a healthy diet including food items like avocado and salmon. Working out is also important for raising your HDL levels, which prevent heart disease.
  6. Supplements may help in lowering cholesterol levels: The first option for controlling your cholesterol levels is to work out regularly. If you are at a risk of heart attack or have hypercholesterolemia, you have to bank on supplements such as plant stanols and sterols. You can also take cholesterol reducing medications such as statins.

Earlier, the medical community was reserved about prescribing cholesterol lowering medicines and they were given only to critical heart patients. In modern day, statin treatment is recommended to people who have even little chances of heart attacks or stroke.

Dear user. I can understand your emotions. Smoking or drinking are not the only causes of myocardial infraction (heart attack). A heart attack occurs when one or more of your coronary arteries become blocked. Over time, a coronary artery can narrow from the buildup of various substances, including cholesterol (atherosclerosis). This condition, known as coronary artery disease, causes most heart attacks. Some specific causes of sudden cardiac death in young people include: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This is a disease in which the heart muscle (myocardium) becomes abnormally thick, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. Don't be so depressed about it. Convince yourself that anything can happen with anyone anytime. Take care.

Doing ECG alone does not rule out heart disease. A detailed history dietary ,medical, job, stress, family history as well as characterization of pain needed to be evaluated before giving proper advice .What lab tests were done .No mention about that There is no use of putting a band aid temporary fix. You have to go to the root cause and treat it. Take a consult for specific advice.

Just start walking daily for 30 min and continue taking low fat diet. As per latest guidelines carbohydrate should be cut from diet and include more proteins. For details about the diet you have to meet dietician for full evaluation and counselling. Usually if you follow low fat diet and regular walk it can be cured in 2 to 3 months.

I am diabetic patient got Heart stroke in Feb 16 angio done but due to multi blockage NO STUNT nor BYPASS my Fasting 148 and PP 200 pl advice.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr Binod, Thanks for the query. In persons with diabetes there is affection to small (micro) blood vessels as well as large (macro ) vessels. Even in well controlled diabetes there is a progressive damage to blood vessels. Plus if the blood glucose levels are not well controlled then the damage is hastened and can be severe. This leads to silent heart attacks in diabetic patients. Since you have already suffered with it, it absolutely essential to achieve a strict blood glucose control - FBG <100 mg, PP 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c%<7. Presently your diabetes is uncontrolled. That has to be brought under better control. Thanks.
