I lost somebody two years ago and I feel very depressed and bad. So what should I do. Please help me.

It is natural to feel low and miss the person you have lost. However if it is interfering with your sleep, studies or general well being, or if you feel suicidal, you need to consult a psychiatrist. It is common to feel low, cry, feel like you are alone, or lose your self confidence. Usually time is the best healer. However if things are too difficult to handle you should talk to a psychiatrist or counselor. Confide in someone close to you, who will support you in this difficult time. Don't cut off from friends or family, even if you feel like you want to be alone.

I am 28 years and got married 8 months ago. I am very short tempered and so is my husband. The issue is that I was in depression for around 3,4 years and I thought I am normal now. But after recovering I felt like there are some changes in my behavior, my attitude. I started to loose my temper very often. I started being hard on everyone even on myself. I started having grudges on people. Now after marriage if me and my husband fight I keep quiet and because of the short temper of my husband he speaks anything like anything. If I try to give any explanation, he never listens to me and never let me speak. But after a moment or two he realizes his mistake and feel sorry. Now my problem is when he say anything and I can't express my point, I cry and start getting more anger. I start regretting marry him. I think like I have made biggest mistAke of my life. Weird thoughts comes in my mind like I will give him divorce, I will leave him, but if I will have kids then how m gonna survive being a single mom, my parents will not let me stay with them, they will feel shameful of me. Because of all these thoughts I have started loosing interest in making love and having kids. I feel like m loosing interest in my husband. I stopped loving him. Though I know he loves me more than anything. And because of my upset behavior he has stopped saying anything to me. But what should I do I can't understand. Please help me out. I want my relationship to be normal and loving.

Try talking to your spouse regarding your problem. Consider asking a close friend or relative to intervene if your spouse is not cooperative. Also consider couples counseling or marital counseling if you want to work on your relationship. If you are feeling hopeless or suicidal consult a psychiatrist immediately.

How To Deal With Stubborn Or Obstinate Children?

How To Deal With Stubborn Or Obstinate Children?

While children can light up your life with joy and laughter, sometimes they can appear to be monsters with their temper tantrums and their stubbornness. Stubborn or obstinate children can be very difficult to deal with and could end up disrupting your life as well. However, there are a few techniques that mental health professionals have suggested that can help you deal with your stubborn and obstinate child. These are mentioned here briefly –

  1. Hear Them Out: It’s often the case that children tend to be stubborn or obstinate and start screaming when they think they weren’t heard. This makes them feel helpless and thus forces them to bottle up and then take out their frustration by either not doing what you are telling them to do or doing exactly the opposite of that. The best treatment in this scenario is to hear them out and patiently try to resolve their problems.

  2. Ensure They Follow Your Example: If one or both of the parents are extremely stubborn, then this would translate into a stubborn kid as well. Doctors have said that obstinacy is often in the genes. Also, environmental influence is a big deal for them as well. Ensure that you are flexible enough with your partner and the child picks up on it.

  3. Teaching Kids About Give And Take: This is a very important lesson in life as it teaches kids to choose priorities. If you teach your kid to always give, then it sends a message that putting themselves second is the best option. However, if he or she is always fighting to take first priority, it may lead to too many conflicts later. Thus it is best to teach them that it is okay to fight for what is yours but also let others have their way sometimes. This attitude will help them develop a balanced attitude and lessen their obstinacy.

  4. Give Them The Illusion Of Choice: Children are very malleable when it comes to their minds and you can use this trick to do certain things that make them appear they have some control when they actually may not. For example, if they are unwilling to go to sleep, you can say that you cannot make them sleep, but they have to stay in bed. Your child would then automatically fall asleep after some time due to boredom which would end up serving your purpose.

  5. Use Scolding Or The Parent Card As A Last Resort: If any of the techniques mentioned don’t work, then you can scold or warn your kid with consequences which may result in capitulation. For example, if you child is not willing to come back and study, then try and stop them from whatever they were doing and make them sit with their books. This lets them know that certain areas you will absolutely not compromise on and they will understand the limits better. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychiatrist.

The end of a relationship often feels like the end of the world. After all the time and energy you have invested in it, it is very painful when it gets over. Keep in mind that life is full of ups and downs; nothing is permanent. The pain you feel today will go away with time. Give yourself time to heal. Give time, time. In the meanwhile don't isolate yourself from your friends and family. Confide in someone you are comfortable with. Make a list of life goals, and plan how to achieve them. Relationships are an important part of your life, but they are not everything. Spend time with those close to you, indulge in some enjoyable activities. Keep yourself busy. Slowly you will see that there is a lot to life. However if you are feeling suicidal, consult a psychiatrist immediately. Don't wait to feel worse.

My husband is alcohol addicted, I want to stop his drinking without knowing him, Is there any option available, He is suffering from diabetes and High blood pressure.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
Alcohol dependence is associated with significant physical, mental and social problems. Physically, there can be liver failure, jaundice, vomiting of blood, passing blood in stools, stomach ulcers, damage to nerves of the body, swelling of legs, fluid collection in abdomen, and many more. Mentally, there is irreversible brain damage, worsening of anxiety or depression, triggering of psychosis and mood disorders, dementia, etc. From a social point of view, there may be isolation from neighbors or family, increased abusive behavior to children or spouses, legal problems, accidents, etc. Anti craving medications are available which will help to reduce the craving. Consult a psychiatrist with experience in deaddiction.

Alcohol has significant interactions with most medication so it is not advisable to drink and take medication at the same time. If you are having difficulty in abstinence consult a Psychiatrist for further management.

I feel very empty. I can see that I am not happy. I don't know what should I do that can make me happy. I don't enjoy anything and I have no passion (at least I don't know of I have one) I had a break up about 18 months ago and since then I haven't been sharing stuff with anyone. I am not even sure if this is the reason but I guess it's important for a doctor to know. Am I depressed? What should I do?
