Have tried using all sorts of cough syrups but the problem does not go away permanently. Today there was bleeding from the right ear. Ent doc said there is a tear in the drum possibly due to some external injury. However there was no external injury whatsoever. Pls share the possible reasons. Have been using headphones for aprox 3 hours to watch videos every day. Have been using buds out of habbit

M.S(ENT),DNB,D.O.R.L, Laryngology fellow
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Mumbai
Use of headphones cannot cause a tear in the eardrum, unless you have been exposed to sudden very loud sound. Harsh use of earbuds can lead to injury to the eardrum. Rupture of the eardrum & bleedung from the ear can also result from ear infections.

Use ear plugs or a cotton ball coated with petroleum jelly while swimming and while taking a headbath. Also, surface swimming is less likely to cause problems as compared to diving and underwater swimming.

My 5 years baby girl have a problem of bleeding from nose during summer and when she eat chicken etc will you please suggest the treatment for it

M.S(ENT),DNB,D.O.R.L, Laryngology fellow
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Mumbai
The anterior (front) part of the nasal septum (partition in the nose) is richly supplied by blood vessels (Little's area). During summers, the hot dry air tends to dry the mucosa resulting in cracking or crusting leading to nose bleeds. Also, heat tends to dilate the blood vessels which may rupture spontaneously or due to nose picking. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. In case of nasal bleed, pinch the nose with the thumb & index finger to apply direct pressure onto the Little's area. Ask the child to bend forwards & breathe through the mouth. Apply ice on the forehead. The bleeding usually stops with these measures. But do consult the ENT specialist to get the nose examined & rule out any other cause for the nasal bleed.

Hi. I am facing this problem since last week. My head spins and I feel that world is spining around me. I checked BP and all Blood test. It's normal. I read about it in Google, all symptoms meets to Vertigo. Is there any test which can make sure whether this is Vertigo or something else?

M.S(ENT),DNB,D.O.R.L, Laryngology fellow

Vertigo just implies rotatary giddiness (spinning sensation). It is a symptom of a disease & not a disease itself. Vertigo can be caused by a number of ear conditions. Please get yourself seen by an ENT surgeon to ascertain the cause for vertigo.

Male 52 My nose gets blocked as soon as the weather changes, soon as I try to sleep I can't breathe.I can only breathe with my mouth. And have the problem of runny nose as I try to eat.

M.S(ENT),DNB,D.O.R.L, Laryngology fellow

Nasal blockage following weather change could be due to an allergy. Running nose while eating could be because of autonomic dysfunction. In either case, you could benefit with a steroid nasal spray. Please consult an ENT surgeon for the same.
