Eczema And Homeopathy!

Eczema And Homeopathy!

Eczema is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the epidermis. The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes which are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed lesions, although scarring is rare. In contrast to psoriasis, eczema is often likely to be found on the flexor aspect of joints.

Homeopathy takes a mild and gentle approach in treating eczema. Homeopathy treats eczema in two phases: in the first phase, homeopathic medicines control itching. In the next phase, they heal the lesions and control further progression of eczema. Homeopathic medicines also work wonders in case of eczema attended with complaints of hay fever and asthma. Prominent names in this category are graphites, sulphur, petroleum, mezereum and natrum mur. Homeopathic medicines for eczema are natural and therefore, safe from any adverse side-effects. They can be taken by persons of all age groups.

Premature Ejaculation: A Growing Sexual Problem Among Men!

Premature Ejaculation: A Growing Sexual Problem Among Men!

Nowadays, men of almost all age are more or less suffering from various sexual problems because of the changing environment, psychological stress, and also physiological limitations. But according to today's sexologists, it is not entirely on the physiology when it comes to a man's erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation. As already mentioned, work-related stress, personal dissatisfaction that often turn into depression and imbalanced lifestyle etc are responsible for the growing sexual problems in men.

What are the primary reasons for the premature ejaculation? Let's take a look-

Biological reasons

Various biological causes are responsible for the premature ejaculation, though according to the physiologists, no accurate reason has been noted for this sexual issue of men. Any kind of spinal injury can cause serious sexual trouble to men. Often lack of treatment can cause erectile dysfunction and that leads to premature ejaculation. The quality of the sperm and the count is also hampered because of this biological setback.n

Often infection is the testicles or sexually transmitted diseases are also responsible for the inflammation of the penis and testicles causing to premature ejaculation. Often the man can suffer from severe pain during the intercourse. Abnormal hormone level is also responsible for such issue. It is strongly recommended to opt for proper ayurvedic or herbal treatment that ensures complete cure of the sexual disorder.

Psychological reasons

According to many sexologists, the psychological problem affects the sexual life of individuals. Men suffering from any sexual trauma, poor body image, lack of self-confidence etc suffer from acute stress and depression. Often, they carry the seed of depression and stress from their workplace that hampers the normal family life. Even unmarried men in relationships can suffer from the same problem because of the constant stress and anxiety. Some of them end up with premature ejaculation without their will jeopardizing the sexual pleasure of the partners. If the problem is absolutely psychological, opting for yoga and maintaining a balanced diet can help incredibly along with proper diagnosis and proper medication.

Try the stop-start technique

Men suffering from the premature ejaculation problem are often suggested with the stop- start technique. This is a self-help therapy where they are asked to masturbate by their own with dry hands. When they reach the point of ejaculation, they should stop and hold it back. It is usually asked to do thrice and finally after some time, men should ask their partner to do the same and just before reaching the point of climax, they should get involved into the intercourse process and ejaculate in the natural process. This practice is supposed to be followed for some time before the issue gets normal and men suffering from erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation can hold back their strength and gradually perform excellent in bed.

Satisfy the partner

Men suffering from premature ejaculation are expected to have a matured and compassionate partner if they're in a love relationship or in a conjugal relationship. With the contribution of both the partners and with love and care, the issue can be cured. Partners can get involved into more foreplay than expecting more sex. Foreplay is also a satisfactory method of lovemaking that they can continue before reaching the climax.

What are the Risks of Premature Ejaculation?

Various risk factors are involved with this temporary yet major sexual disorder in men. They can go through even breakups if they are hooked up with immature partners that couldn't understand the physical issue of the partner.

Again, improper or lack of accurate diagnosis can result into infertility and other major problem that can cause to impotency of the person concerned suffering from premature ejaculation.

Polycystic Ovarian Disease

Polycystic Ovarian Disease

Polycystic ovarian disease is a gynaecological disorder whose prevalence seems to have increased considerably among Indian women in last few years. Many young girls and middle-aged Indian women are suffering from this syndrome which is a marked by appearance of multiple cysts on ovaries and disturbances in monthly menstrual cycles.

CAUSES :

The exact cause of PCOD remains unknown to the modern science even as the genetic link is being scrutinized for its causative role.

SYMPTOMS :

TREATMENT :

From Ayurvedic point of view, PCOD reflects vitiation of rasa and rakta dhatus. When levels of impurities and toxins increase in rasa and rakta dhatus, body stores them in form of cysts around ovaries. So presence of multiple cysts indicate high levels of impurities and toxins in these dhatus. Sign and symptoms in PCOD patients suggest imbalance of all three doshas. Dhatwagnimandya may also exist in some patients. History of improper diet and lifestyle is generally found among majority of PCOD patients. Excessive consumption of hormonal pills and contraceptive pills too is reported by many patients. Mental stress and lack of physical exercise are marked among quite a few ladies with PCOD. From Ayurvedic perspectives, all these things can produce toxins in body and cause diseases like PCOD.

DIET & LIFESTYLE :

  • Low-fat milk is recommended. Boil milk before drinking. Drink it warm. This makes it easier to digest. Do not take milk with a full meal or with sour or salty foods. Add a pinch of turmeric or ginger to the milk before boiling it. This helps to reduce the kapha increasing qualities of the milk.
  • Lighter fruits, such as apples, oranges, grape fruit, pineapple and papaya and pears, are recommended.
  • Sweeteners: Honey is excellent for reducing kapha. Reduce the intake of sugar products, which increase kapha.
  • Beans are recommended. Nuts should be avoided.
  • Grains such as barley, chickpea and millet are recommended. Do not take too much wheat or rice, as they increase kapha.
  • Spices are recommended only in moderate quantities.
  • Vegetables such as potaotoes and sweet potatoes should be avoided as they can cause weight gain.
  • Follow a lifestyle that will not aggravate any dosha.
  • Negative feelings like stress and tension should be avoided. Do not undertake physical or mental work beyond your capacity.
  • Limit the use of contraceptives.
  • Follow an active lifestyle, yet the exercises should be according to one's capacity. Both, excessive fasting and overeating are harmful.
  • Smoking, drinking alcohol and using narcotics aggravates menstrual disorders.

Tips To Get Healthy Skin!

MBBS
General Physician,
Tips To Get Healthy Skin!

Causes For Skin Damage:

1. Lack of hydration

2. Smoking

3. Sun damage

4. Lack of exercise

5. Bad eating habits

Feed your skin the right food and it will respond with that lovely look you want :)

How to get healthy skin:

1. Minimal makeup: Ladies, can you please minimize makeup usage? It is really not necessary to always use a blush, concealer, foundation, mousse or whatever it is. It may add a fine coating to your skin making it glowing skin, but what about your real skin? Is it really glowing? No matter how expensive the brand is, it damages your skin to a large extent. We are not asking you to throw them off your shelf; keep those away for special days. The rest of the days, tone and moisturize your skin, use sunscreen. Let your skin breathe.

2. Face cleansing: This has been told by all beauty experts umpteen times when asked how to maintain healthy skin. Even if you are too tired after a long party, cleanse all dirt and makeup from your skin. Your face needs to be cleared of all the chemicals in makeup. The makeup acts as a tight mask on your face keeping your facial pores clogged. If you go to bed with all these makeup on, you’ll wake up the next morning with a huge embarrassing pimple.

3. Slather on sunscreen: Sunscreen is a must for your skin. The rays of the sun are harmful beyond thoughts. Skin cancer, premature aging, skin rashes all of these are caused when your skin gets too much exposure to the sun without any protection.

4. Exfoliating face: All the healthy skin tips for women say that you should exfoliate your face at least twice a week. Scrubbing your face will rid your facial skin of all the dead cells that might have clogged your pored leading to acne breakouts, blackheads and whiteheads. Scrubbing your face will also improve your complexion, adds a glow to your skin and also clears your skin of all toxins. Don’t keep your skin scrubbing daily, it will make your skin look even drier.

5. Moisturize: Yes, other than keeping yourself internally hydrated, also use a good moisturizer to feed your skin. Moisturizers do not add a great deal of moisture by themselves but they lock in the present moisture and are hence essential to keep your skin hydrated. After a bath, make it a routine to moisturize your face daily to keep it hydrated.

6. Water: Water forms the major portion of our body. It is recommended to drink 10 - 15 glasses of water everyday to keep you healthy and free from aliments. Drink enough water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated. Do not allow your skin to feel thirsty. For a soft, supple and dewy look, water is a must. Follow this diet regime for a healthy skin and cut down on all fried and unhealthy fatty foods. Following are the benefits of water therapy : a) permanent glow b) removes toxic material and c) keeps your skin and body hydrated.

7. Eat proper food to get healthy skin: Food provides life to your skin. Everything you eat in your everyday life contributes to a healthy skin. Only that you have to cut out on some and add some more:

a. Vitamin C rich foods: Have fruits and veggies rich in Vitamin C. Vitamin C manufactures collagen that is responsible for the firmness of your skin. So you quite well understand that lack of vitamin C in your diet will lead to the formation of wrinkles at an early age. Vitamin C is also an anti-oxidant that prevents collagen damage. High vitamin C foods include bell peppers, dark leafy greens, kiwifruit, broccoli, berries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, peas, and papayas.

b. Vitamin A: Who doesn’t want a smooth complexion? We all do, but for that we don’t need to spend thousands of bucks when we have the solution in our refrigerator. All red, orange and green leafy veggies are rich sources of beta-carotene (a form of Vitamin A). It is necessary for cell formation and therefore your skin surface stays smooth and touchable. Carotenoids also protect skin from sun. Turnips, sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, squash all of these are rich sources of Vit A.

c. Healthy fats: Nuts are fatty and are not good for health; that is a misconception. Of course nuts are fatty, but they are filled with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. This falls under that healthy category of fats that is essential for us. Have a handful of almonds and walnuts daily for a supple looking clear skin. Flax seeds are another good option to consume omega-3 fats. If you are a non-vegetarian, have salmon atleast twice a week. This fish is also rich in omega-3 fats. The oil you cook your food in should also be taken care of. Switch over to olive oil which is a rich source of mono-unsaturated fats.

d. Tomatoes: Tomatoes doesn’t need a very special mention when it comes to healthy facial skin. They contain a magical ingredient called lypocene which is an anti-oxidant that helps fight old age. It can keep your skin at bay from all old age signs like wrinkles, dark spots and patches or saggy skin.

e. Zinc and iron: Eggs, lean meat, oysters and cereals supply a good mount of zinc and iron to your body that imparts that much wanted celeb like glow. Zinc helps in cell production and natural weariness of dead cells giving your face a fresh look. Iron is needed to carry oxygen through the body that gives a blushy glow to your face.

f. Fibers: If you are the one suffering from acne often, its time you think of including fiber-rich foods in your diet. One of the reasons for acne breakouts is indigestion. And the best solution discovered so far to improve your digestive system is having foods rich in fiber. Having whole-grain breads, brown rice, apples, bananas, oatmeal are proved solution to minimize acne.

Everything You Need To Know About Depressive Disorder!

Rekha is 32 years old, she has a succesful career, a lovable husband and two wonderful kids. She has a few helpful friends and a supportive family. She also got promoted at work 6 months ago. Yet for the past few months she has been finding it a little difficult to fall asleep at night, she dreads daybreak and wished she could sleep for a bit more time. She fights through the tiredness as everything she once enjoyed seems grey and non rewarding. She stopped following her favorite tv show and hasn’t been talking to her friends as much. She has been unable to focus on work and it takes her longer than usual to complete her tasks. The food she once loved seems drab and unappealing. There is no more color to festivals and functions, and smiling becomes an effort. She worried about the future and feels helpless as her life spirals down a eternal dark staircase.

Rekhas husband has noticed this and is supportive as he can be, telling her that she needs to snap out of whatever that she is going through. Not that she wouldnt want to snap out of it. People around her have been trying to cheer her up, suggesting everything that they feel would make her feel better! But no, the shadow of depression follows her around and makes her feel that her life is not worth living anymore.

What are the numbers ?

Depression is difficult, depression is dark and depression is dangerous. Studies have reported numbers ranging from 1 in 10 to 1 in 30. An article in the Indian express on feb 15,2016 was titled “with 36% of India depressed, we must end the taboo around mental health”

Depression was reported to be higher in females, in the age-group of 40-49 years and among those residing in urban metros. Equally high rates were reported among the elderly.Depression and suicides are closely linked, with upto 15% of depressed individuals attempting suicide. With around a lakh and 30000 people ending their lives by suicide every year, and atleast 10 times as much attempting suicide, this 15 percent starts looking like a very large number.

What causes depression

Contrary to popular belief, depression does not necessarily stem from a weakness in one's "mind" or from ones poor ability to cope with the stressors of life. This Depression like every other illness stems from complex interactions between biological, psychological and social factors. Like one cannot "think away" a fever, it is impossible to "think away" depression.

Genetic studies have demonstrated a concordance rate for mood disorders in identical twins of 70 to 90 percent. Implying a strong role of inherited factors in depressive illness. Alterations in hormonal regulation and sleep architecture can also lead to depression.

At the base of the illness there are abnormalities at the synaptic level in the neuronal networks in the pre-frontal cortex (a region in the brain). The pre-frontal cortex holds and processes information in regard to ones personality, memory, decision making, motivation and complex cognitive tasks. These processes are encoded in the form of synapses or interneuronal connections. The neurons communicate via electrochemical processes called neurotransmission. Current knowledge implicates a imbalance in serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline (neurotransmitters) and or an abnormal number of their receptors in the synapses in causing depression. Most anti depressants increase serotonin concentrations at the synaptic level so as to improve mood and cognition.

Low levels of serotonin have also been observed in those who attempt suicide.

What are the symptoms of depression? How is it diagnosed ?

Symptoms of depression include persistent low mood, easy fatiguability and a lack of interest in things that were previously pleasurable. Physical symptoms such as changes in sleep patterns, changes in appetite and weight and decreased interest in sex may also occur. Further a loss of self confidence, undue feelings of guilt, emotional lability and thoughts about self harm are also common.
The safest thing to do, if one is experiencing such symtoms is to seek professional help.

The Psychiatrist or Psychologist will be able to make a diagnosis based of Criteria set forth by the world health organization. They may suggest laboratory investigations to rule out physical illnesses such as anemia and thyroid dysfunction that mimic depression and will offer appropriate treatment measures.

Depression tends to occur in episodes with each episode lasting from 6 months to two years with an average of 8 months. Untreated depression tends to leave behind residual symptoms that include fatigue, anhedonia, long lasting sleep disturbances, poor productivity and a propensity to recur. 60% of those who develop a depressive episode, develop another Thus earlier and effective treatment will improve prognosis and will decrease the long term morbidity.

Effective treatment strategies are available for the management of depression. Based on the severity of illness and the nature of symptoms, you health care provider may prescribe either behavioral changes, psychotherapy or biological therapy. You do not have to go at it alone. Help is available for all those who seek it !

Depression is nothing to be afraid of, and certainly nothing to be guilty or ashamed of. With the right intervention from qualified experts, depression can be managed effectively.

Pros And Cons Of Ketogenic Diet!

M.Sc. in Dietetics and Food Service Management , Post Graduate Diploma In Computer Application, P.G.Diploma in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics , B.Sc.Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Pros And Cons Of Ketogenic Diet!

Talking about the pros first:

1) Ketogenic diet known to control seizures:

From biblical times, it was known that fasting controls seizures. In a study conducted, it was found that 54% of the patients had complete control over seizures and 26% showed a marked decrease in seizures while on a ketogenic diet.

2) Ketosis helps in weight loss:

In one study of over 400 individuals over a period of a year, it was found that low-carbs diet was as effective as low-fat diets in weight loss. In the short term of six months, the individuals on a low carb diet had even lost on a average of 3.3 kgs greater than those on a low fat diet.

Thus, the low carb diet seems to be a good option for weight loss in the short term.

 3) For the diabetes and prediabetes treatment:

As discussed before, the ketogenic diet reduces the blood sugar and thus it is an effective option in treatment and control of diabetes.
From one study on type 2 diabetes patients, after following a low-carbs diet, it was found that the insulin sensitivity improved by about 75%.

In another study the patients even reduced or discontinued their diabetes medication. They found that their glucose came under control after following the low carb ketogenic diet.

 4) The ketogenic diet protects the brain:

Most of our brain can use ketones as fuel in times of starvation or low carb diet. This can take place as early as after 3 days of a starvation state.

Also, as discussed before, some children can have a condition where the glucose receptors in the brain are disrupted. Thus, getting energy from glucose might become an issue. Here they might go into seizures. Ketogenic diets bypass this mechanism and prevent this condition.

A lot of research also has given rise to possibility of treatment of alzheimer’s and dementia, by inculcating a ketogenic diet.
5) Protecting the heart, to an extent:

As seen earlier, on a high carb diet, excess glucose is stored in the muscles and liver. Additional glucose is stored in the blood. High blood glucose along with inflammation has also been known to damage proteins in arterial cell walls and cause thickening. This escalates plague build up.

Low carb diet like keto diets have been known to reduce the blood glucose levels and thus protect the heart, to a certain extent. This being said, please read the cons part of this article for the full picture on this subject.

6) Prevention of certain types of cancer:

The ketogenic diet has been used in the treatment of certain types of cancer.
Ketocal, which is a new nutritionally balanced high fat/low carbohydrate ketogenic diet was used to study malignant brain tumors. It was found that, in the experimental mouse and human brain tumors, ketocal was effective against the tumors.

 7) Help treat acne:

As per one study a ketose diet might even help treat acne.

Where there is good there has to be evil:

So, lets look at the cons:
1) Heart failure is severe ketogenic state:

There are two cases of sudden death due to heart failure, in children on ketogenic diets for the control of seizures. Both cases showed selenium deficiency. Thus, the hearts condition on prolonged keto diet needs to be monitored closely.

In another study, thirteen patients with congestive heart failure (chf) and cardiac patients without chf took part in a study. It was found that in a ketosis-prone state severe chf occurs.

So, basically in patients with a heart condition, the ketogenic diet should be undertaken after consultation with your doctor. Thus, it can be monitored for adverse symptoms.

 2) Deficiency in macronutrients:
Now, ketosis can cause macronutrients deficiency if not monitored properly.

 3) Various side effects:

When used in the treatment of children with epilepsy, it was found that the side effects include “dehydration, kidney stones and constipation”.
Other side effects that might be apparent with the ketogenic diet are too much water intake, dizziness, nausea, headaches, etc.

Effects Of Binge Drinking In Teenager!

Diploma in Diet n Nutrition, BHMS
Homeopath,

Drinking in teenage years linked to memory problems and other health issues in later life.

  • Binge drinking during teenage years could lead to thinning of certain areas of the brain causing problems with memory and other serious health implications later in life suggests a study.
  • As per a recent study conducted by the oregon state university in the us, binge drinking is linked to shrinking of certain areas of the brain that are associated with memory, attention and language in teenagers. This, in turn, could lead to increased risk of developing alcohol use disorder later on in life.
  • The researchers studied six parameters to determine the hazardous impact of heavy drinking on the brain in early years. These include response inhibition, working memory, verbal learning and memory, decision making and reward processing, alcohol cue reactivity, and socio-cognitive/socio-emotional processing,
  • Teenage is a period where the brain is still undergoing biological and psychological behaviour development.
  • Considering the fact that more and more teenagers are involved in binge drinking and heavy drinking, understanding the effects of consuming large quantities of alcohol on neural development and the impact on cognitive skills is very important.
  • Binge or heavy episodic drinking is defined as four or more standard drinks within a two-hour drinking session for females and five or more drinks for males.
  • As per the study, binge drinking among young people is associated with a thinning or reduction of areas of the brain that are known to play a key role in memory, attention, language, awareness and consciousness.
  • This type of brain alteration in young life could lead to increased risk of alcohol use disorder in later years of life.

What Treatment Options Are Available for Male Infertility?

What Treatment Options Are Available for Male Infertility?

It can be disheartening to find out that you're infertile, especially when you thought that everything was normal. There are many reasons why a man is not able to contribute to the conception process and, consequently, there are options that can assist with male infertility.

Here are the treatment options available for male infertility.

1. Vasectomy Reversal
In recent years many men are opting to have children after a vasectomy. Luckily, a vasectomy is not necessarily a permanent issue anymore. It can be reversed. It takes a simple surgical procedure that restores the flow of sperm. There are certain factors that affect the success rates of vasectomy reversals such as your age, the presence of antisperm antibodies, time elapsed since the vasectomy and the age of the woman. Although this procedure is an option it is generally not encourage.

2. Sperm Aspiration
This is a group of procedures which is used to get viable sperm from the man. The sperm is used with Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). This option is suitable for men who have severe types of male infertility. For example, if there is no sperm in their ejaculate, where sperm is dead or there is no motility. With this group of procedures there are four techniques that can be used to obtain the sperm. It is important to keep in mind that each technique is not suitable for everyone. These techniques are mentioned in the next four points.

3. Testicular Sperm Extraction
In this technique the fertility doctor removes a small piece of testicular tissue through a half inch skin incision. Sperm is liberated from the seminiferous tubules (where they are produced). This procedure can be performed in the doctor's surgery or the operating room and a mild sedation is recommended for comfort. The sperm harvested with this technique can be stored for later use.

4. Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration
If you have a reproductive tract blockage then this technique is an option. During this technique an operating microscope is used to examine the tubules that contain sperm. The fluid containing the sperm is collected and the quality is examined. Thereafter it is taken to the IVF laboratory for use.

5.Testicular Sperm Aspiration
This technique uses a needle biopsy of the testicle. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia in a doctor's surgery. The sperm is extracted through the testicle but the amount obtained can be low because the needle cuts a thin layer of the tissue. This procedure is usually quite successful and less invasive than other methods.

Unusual Red Penis Cause: Semen Allergy!

MD - General Medicine
Sexologist, Delhi
Unusual Red Penis Cause: Semen Allergy!

Sporting a red penis can be a cause of pride or concern. When a man's penis health is good, his erect penis often has a red hue due to the blood that rushes in and fills the organ. But sometimes a red penis is due to a rash, an allergy, or any number of other causes. One of the more mysterious and unusual (and thankfully rare) causes? An allergy to his own semen. And what's worse, that allergy may produce more than just a red penis.

Semen allergy

It has been known for some time that some women may be allergic to a man's semen (or, more accurately, to the semen of a specific man or men). For such women, when a man ejaculates into their vagina or onto or into other parts of the body, they can develop a rash or itchiness. Burning and swelling is not uncommon; in some cases, a woman may break out in hives or even develop problems with breathing. It can become quite serious.

POIS

However, information on semen allergy in men is more limited. It was first described in 2002 and given the name post-orgasmic illness syndrome (POIS). As with women, the expulsion of semen from the penis in men with POIS may result in an irritated, red penis or in a penis rash. Itching is not uncommon, and swelling is also a factor for some men.

However, men with POIS are also likely to develop symptoms and issues that go beyond the penile area. A flu-like condition is frequently found post-ejaculation in men with POIS. Their eyes may get red and itchy, their nose is likely to run, and sneezing may ensue. In addition, they tend to get feverish and experience a significant level of fatigue - bed rest is often called for.

For most men with POIS, the reactions can occur whether ejaculation is achieved through masturbation or through partner sex.

Protein

In most cases, it appears the allergic reaction is due to a protein found in semen to which the body develops an autoimmune response. But it's interesting to note that men with this reaction do not necessarily have it their whole lives.

For example, a guy may masturbate quite happily as a teenager and enjoy many forms of partner sex before developing POIS. It can occur early on in the teen years or not show up until much later in life.

What is perhaps even more interesting is that the allergic reaction only occurs after semen has been ejaculated. While the semen is stored in the body, or if a man experiences sex without ejaculating, there is no reaction to the presence of the semen.

Treatment

Since the exact cause of the response is unknown, treating a semen allergy can be difficult. One course of treatment that has proven effective for many men is building immunity to it. This typically occurs by having a doctor inject a diluted form of semen into the body over a lengthy period of time. As the process goes along, the semen becomes less diluted.

Other doctors recommend using anti-inflammatories (as prescribed by an allergy specialist) before and/or after sex to possibly reduce the development of post-ejaculatory symptoms.

A semen allergy is not the only cause of a red penis, of course. When that redness is accompanied by irritation or dryness, use of a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) may be appropriate. A man should inspect the ingredients list on any crème he considers and make sure it contains potent moisturizing ingredients to soothe the skin. Shea butter (a high-end emollient) and vitamin E (a natural hydrator) are ideal and work together to form a moisture lock. Thinning penile skin can also make the red penis more painful, so find a crème that includes alpha lipoic acid. This antioxidant fights the free radicals that can cause penis skin to grow thin.

Avoid Penis Pain With These Jock Strap Tips!

Avoid Penis Pain With These Jock Strap Tips!

During fast and furious sports, a man's very delicate equipment can be quite vulnerable. That's especially true if he chooses not to wear a cup or jock strap. This innovative protective device helps ensure a man's penis and scrotum stay comfortable, held against his body in such a way that the chances of injury are lessened. But for many men, penis pain might result from choosing the wrong jock strap. Here's what a man needs to know about choosing and using a jock strap, as well as proper penis care when using one.

Using a jock strap properly

A man will usually do anything to avoid penis pain, so why are so many men reluctant to use a jock strap or cup? Some men say that the jock strap is too uncomfortable, especially when a cup is inserted. Others say that it simply makes them far too hot when they are in the midst of a good game on the field. And still others say that proper fit means it's all too tight, and feels as though it limits their range of movement when they most need flexibility and speed.

To combat these ideas, try these tips:

1. Use a cup only when necessary. Not all sports require use of a cup. Basketball is a good example. A cup might not provide much protection during the game, but a jock strap is essential to keep the junk from bouncing as a man runs all over the court. However, those playing football, soccer or hockey - where rigorous contact might occur - are advised to use a cup. Those who play baseball are as well, as even the best reflexes probably won't be able to deflect a 90-mph ball coming off the bat right toward the family jewels.

2. Look for a thick waistband. Though the thin waistbands can look appealing, especially on men who have great abs, keep in mind that this visual isn't going to do him any favors in the protection department. In fact, it's unlikely a man is going to be getting it on with a partner while wearing the jock strap, so why not go for functional? A thick waistband will hold the jock strap firmly in place, which is exactly what a guy needs when he's moving around on the field.

3. Choose proper leg straps. Though men might be uncomfortable at first with the way fits around their body, those straps are there for a reason. A man will get used to the feeling over time. So instead of choosing very loose legs straps, which could rotate during play and expose the most delicate regions, a man should go with leg straps that fit firmly but comfortably.

4. Try it on. Avoiding penis pain can't be achieved if a man refuses to test out before hitting the field. The best route is to try it on in the sportswear store. Wear tight compression shorts underneath the jock strap, then slip a cup into place. Walk around a bit to see how it feels. Running in place might also help. Keep in mind that just come in a variety of sizes, so do cups. A guy must take the time to figure out which ones are the perfect fit for his body and athletic use.

Penis care when using jock straps

Even with a properly-fitted cup, a man will sometimes face chafing - and that can lead to penis pain. A man should always take care to wash the area thoroughly after his sports adventures, then reach for a great penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) to soothe and heal. Look for a crème that contains vitamin D, C and B5 for their healing properties, as well as alpha-lipoic acid to fight free radicals and L-carnitine to protect against peripheral nerve damage. All this in a Shea butter base is great for penis care when using jock straps.

How Homeopathy Helps Treat Autism?

How Homeopathy Helps Treat Autism?

A mental condition that takes shape during early childhood, Autism is identified by characteristics like difficulty in communication, the use of language, understanding abstract concepts and building bonds with other people. This brain development disorder is also characterized by the performance of repetitive behaviors in the affected individual.

Homeopathy approach in treating Autism

Diagnosis of the condition by a homeopath requires the adoption of an extensive and intensive approach. From collecting detailed information about symptoms like a reaction to vaccines, thermal sensitivities and medical history of the family to understanding sleep postures; treatment of this condition requires an understanding of every vital factor associated with the condition. The hardcore approach is vital for understanding the stimulus/response connection of symptoms. This is because whenever an autistic child undergoes stressful situations, the reaction is a sign that a homeopath cannot ignore. By completely understanding the cycle of stress and reaction, a homeopath can only be able to suggest the right treatment program.

What about the remedies prescribed for treating the condition?

Being a holistic branch of medicine, homeopathy takes into account the complete physical as well as the mental makeup of the individual. Additionally, in this alternative medicine, the homeopath also takes into consideration the details of the disease while recommending remedies. Remedies like Carcinocin, Secretin and Thuja are favored the most for treating the condition. At the same time, the appropriate remedies are recommended after having a thorough understanding as to whether the individual falls within the constitutional makeup of the remedies considered.

Another essential aspect of this branch of medicine in the treatment of this brain development disorder is the practice of using LM potencies (homeopathic medicines on the last scale of potencies). These remedies are not only acted faster but are also gentler compared to others. They have been found to be very effective in preventing the individual from falling prey to the old symptoms and can be frequently repeated as well as used for a long time.

PCOS - You Can Still Get Pregnant

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and infertility are considered synonymous by most. However, the truth is that they are not and there are a lot of treatment options that can lead to pregnancy, even in a lady who is suffering from PCOS.

Reasons PCOS leads to infertility
Women with PCOS have different hormonal pathways than a normal woman without PCOS. It changes the system of how your body produces the eggs and prepares your uterus for pregnancy. Three reasons why women with PCOS do not get pregnant, or why it is difficult for them to maintain pregnancy are:

1. Women who are suffering with PCOS do not ovulate normally.
2. They have irregular periods and thus their monthly cycles are not predictable.
3. As they have irregular periods, their endometrium may not be prepared when the egg is released. Thus, it does not help in sustaining the pregnancy.

Symptoms of PCOS
There are a lot of symptoms that show the hormonal imbalance due to PCOS.
1. Ovarian cysts
2. Excessive amounts of male hormones
3. High levels of insulin
4. Fertility problems
5. Weight gain
6. Ovulation and menstrual problems
7. Excess body and facial hair
8. Acne
9. Anxiety and depression

As there is hormonal imbalance in a woman with PCOS, the eggs may not develop properly, and at the same time, they may not be ready to get fertilized, thus leading to infertility.

PCOS infertility treatment
The good news is that even if you are one of them with PCOS, there are treatments that can help you to get pregnant.

Here are the drugs that help patients with PCOS.
Metformin (Glucophage)

It helps in reducing the insulin levels and stabilizes the hormones. Thus, doctors often prescribe metformin that will help in making the ovulation cycles regular.

Clomid (Clomiphene citrate)
Another fertility drug that helps in conceiving is Clomid. It may be prescribed with or without metformin. When women with PCOS take these two drugs together, their chances of getting treated for PCOS and getting fertile become more. Many women may need a high dose of Clomid so that they can retain fertility.

Gonadotropins
This medication is necessary for helping you with ovulation as gonadotropins are hormones that stimulate your ovaries to release eggs. When someone is not responding to clomid then this medication may be tried.

If you too are trying to conceive and yet have not succeeded, and can find the symptoms mentioned above, visit your doctor and start the treatment.

What To Expect Before Spine Surgery?

What To Expect Before Spine Surgery?

Spinal surgery becomes inevitable when back pain cannot be managed with medications and/or exercise. This is a major decision and requires planning for many things before, during, and after the surgery.

Before a spinal surgery- This preparation will help in smooth recovery, especially if you do not have a full-time caretaker.

  1. Discontinue pain killers: Discontinue pain killers at least 10 to 14 days before surgery. These are blood thinners and can prolong bleeding during the surgery.

  2. Prepare for blood loss: Most people experience some blood loss, but not excessive.

  3. Use a toilet seat raiser: Sitting and getting up from the toilet seat may be difficult. The seat raiser is used to increase the height, making this movement easy.

  4. Enable easy access to common items: Before heading for the surgery, keep things which are commonly used within easy reach. This will help reduce movement and avoid searching (especially if someone else is going to be doing it).

  5. Stock it up: Cooking may not be feasible during the initial postop period, and so it is advisable to stock up food items (ready to eats, fruits, soups, etc.) which will come in handy.

  6. Slip-ons: Bending down and tying shoes may not be easy, so slip-ons can be used.

  7. Caregiving: It is always advisable to have someone stay over with you during the initial postop days. They could help with regular household chores, cooking, etc.

  8. Lifestyle changes: Ensure you eat well in the days before surgery, quit smoking, quit/use moderate amounts of alcohol, and exercise as advised by your surgeon.

After Surgery- Post surgery, there will be some pain and limitation of movement. It is important to understand that adherence to post-op instructions will improve the success rate of the surgery. Also, recovery time for spine surgery is slightly longer and affects overall quality of life, so psychological preparation is required.

  1. Postoperative medications: These will be given to control infection and pain in the immediate postop period, and should be taken without fail

  2. Rehab: The surgeon will recommend physical therapy and rehab exercises which need to be followed. Complete recovery may take anywhere between 3 to 12 months. During this time, care should be taken to avoid repeat injury.

  3. Support: Adequate back support should be provided using lumbar support and ergonomic chairs, and the right posture should be maintained. Ensure there is no undue strain on the back muscles.

  4. Weight management: With excess weight, there is too much strain on the lower disks. Therefore, weight should be managed to reduce this strain.

  5. Smoking and alcohol should be completely stopped, as healing can be hampered.

With some preparation, spinal surgery can be sailed through smoothly.

How To Prepare Yourself for Heart Transplantation?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, DM - Cardiology
Cardiologist, Delhi
How To Prepare Yourself for Heart Transplantation?

A heart transplant is an operation in which a failing, diseased heart is replaced with a healthier, donor heart. Heart transplant is a treatment that's usually reserved for people who have tried medications or other surgeries, but their conditions haven't sufficiently improved.

While a heart transplant is a major operation, your chance of survival is good, with appropriate follow-up care.

When faced with a decision about having a heart transplant, know what to expect of the heart transplant process, the surgery itself, potential risks and follow-up care.

Why it's done

Heart transplants are performed when other treatments for heart problems haven't worked, leading to heart failure. In adults, heart failure can be caused by several conditions, including:

  1. A weakening of the heart muscle (cardiomyopathy)
  2. Coronary artery disease
  3. Heart valve disease
  4. A heart problem you're born with (congenital heart defect)
  5. Dangerous recurring abnormal heart rhythms (ventricular arrhythmias) not controlled by other treatments
  6. Amyloidosis
  7. Failure of a previous heart transplant
  8. In children, heart failure is most often caused by either a congenital heart defect or a cardiomyopathy.

Another organ transplant may be performed at the same time as a heart transplant (multiorgan transplant) in people with certain conditions at select medical centers. Multiorgan transplants include:

  1. Heart-kidney transplant. This procedure may be an option for some people with kidney failure in addition to heart failure.
  2. Heart-liver transplant. This procedure may be an option for people with certain liver and heart conditions.
  3. Heart-lung transplant. Rarely, doctors may suggest this procedure for some people with severe lung and heart diseases, if the conditions aren't able to be treated by only a heart transplant or lung transplant.

Factors that may affect your eligibility for a heart transplant

A heart transplant isn't the right treatment for everyone. Certain factors may mean you're not a good candidate for a heart transplant. While each case is considered individually by a transplant center, a heart transplant may not be appropriate if you:

  1. Are an advanced age that would interfere with the ability to recover from transplant surgery
  2. Have another medical condition that could shorten your life, regardless of receiving a donor heart, such as a serious kidney, liver or lung disease
  3. Have an active infection
  4. Have a recent personal medical history of cancer
  5. Are unwilling or unable to make lifestyle changes necessary to keep your donor heart healthy, such as not drinking alcohol or not smoking

What happens after the transplant?

Most people leave hospital within about four weeks of the operation, but depending on your condition, you may need to stay in hospital for longer.

In the first few months after your surgery you will need to spend a lot of time visiting the hospital – you might even need to stay near the transplant centre. Your transplant team will talk to you about practical arrangements for after your surgery.

Although you will be weak after the operation, recovery can be very quick. It is important to build up your level of activity gradually. You should avoid activities involving lifting and pushing until your breastbone is fully healed, which can take up to three or four months.

Once you feel fit and able, you can start doing things like light vacuuming or light gardening.

Changes That Smoking Cause To Your Skin!

MD - Skin,VD & Lepxsy
Dermatologist, Hyderabad
Changes That Smoking Cause To Your Skin!

Most people think that having a smoking habit adversely affects only the lungs and the heart. But apart from known links to lung cancer and heart disorders, smoking also causes skin damage. The intensity of damage is directly proportional to the number of cigarettes one smokes in a day and the number of years one has been smoking for.

Here are 7 of the horrible things that smoking does to your skin

1. Premature ageing: The process of skin ageing is accelerated by a smoking habit. The chemicals that are ingested through the smoke cause your skin to age much faster, making it look loose, dull and coarse, with uneven colouring. Most smokers have a muted orange or grey tinge to their complexions.

2. Wrinkles and lines: The nicotine from smoke constricts blood vessels in the outer layers of the skin, thereby cutting off the supply of oxygen and nutrients. This causes the skin to develop visible fine lines and wrinkles at a faster rate.

3. Scarring and pigmentation: Since blood is not flowing properly to the outer layers of the skin, it is more susceptible to broken capillaries and veins, which can cause dark scarring and pigmentation on the face and other areas.

4. Darkening of the lips: Constant exposure to heat from smoking causes stark darkening and pigmentation in the lips, which also become dry and coarse.

5. Delayed wound healing: The presence of nicotine, tar and other chemicals in the blood causes cuts and wounds on the skin to heal at a much slower pace with an increased risk of infection, blood clot formation and death of skin tissue.

6. Increased risk of skin disease: Smoking makes the skin prone to various diseases and conditions like psoriasis, which happen as nicotine adversely affects the body's immune system.

7. High chances of skin cancer: Skin cancer and oral cancer are the two lesser known variants of the diseases that can be caused by smoking. Skin cancer is far more common among smokers than among non-smokers.

The harmful effects of smoking on the skin are not entirely discernible until after 10 years of prolonged smoking. Fortunately, your skin starts to heal itself when you kick the habit.
