Your symptoms are typical to recurrent aphthous ulcers. Actual cause of this is still not known but various associated factors and symptomatic treatments are available today. Follow these best remedies - 1) relieve stress related to various day to day problems like family, friends, exams. Job etc. Perform yoga, exercises etc. As best stress busters. 2) drink plenty of water daily. 3) visit a dentist for professional scaling and polishing. It will remove local irritating factors in mouth 4) take multivitamins and minerals capsule once or twice daily, specifically vitamin A, C, E and zinc, selenium 5) apply Amlexanox gel and rexidine m forte gel alternatively 3-4 times a day until ulcers heals. 6) take doxycycline capsule, open it and collect the inside powder, mix it with water to make a paste form, apply over ulcers 3-4 times for 5 minutes each daily until ulcers disappears. 7) even then, many times the above mentioned treatments fails. No Ayurvedic, Homeopathic remedies works. In that case the current permanent solution is to go for LASER treatment for these ulcers. Thank you.

Dear Lybrate User, You should visit your dentist for more help on this issue. Yes it's possible to reduce the size of your front teeth and bring them in harmonious alignment with the teeth in the arch but the treatment options may vary from simple grinding (a little bit) to putting crowns on the teeth. We cannot simply over-grind the teeth as that leads to severe tooth sensitivity. Instead, your dentist would decide as at what option works the best in your case by examining your teeth, taking impressions and analysing the smile profile. Good Luck!

What is the proper technique of brushing and how to gum massage and how much time.

What is the proper technique of brushing and how to gum massage and how much time.
Brushing your teeth is an important part of your dental care routine. For a healthy mouth and smile, you must: 1. Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled brush. The size and shape of your brush should fit your mouth allowing you to reach all areas easily. 2. Replace your toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush won’t do a good job of cleaning your teeth. 3. Make sure to use a fluoride containing toothpaste. The proper brushing technique is to: 1. Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. 2. Gently move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes. 3. Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth. 4. To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes. To massage your gums (5-8 mins): Wet your finger with a routinely used toothpaste or a gum paint like Stolin, Bali or HiOra-GA and place it on your gum line. Gently massage your gums with your finger using small circular motions. You can also apply the substance to your gums using a soft toothbrush. Apply two or three times a week. Good Luck!

Why when I chewing any food I feel pain on ear aur mouth joint area from right side. Almost 3 weeks.

Why when I chewing any food I feel pain on ear aur mouth joint area from right side. Almost 3 weeks.
It might be due to temporomandibular joint dysfunction. You can take painkillers to relieve pain, Apply an ice pack to the side of your face and temple area for about 10 minutes. You can do some jaw stretches (after consulting a dentist only). When you’re done, hold a warm towel or washcloth to the side of your face for about 5 minutes. Perform this routine a few times each day. Take soft diet, give rest to your jaw. Consult a dentist for the same.

Dear lybrate-user. Its good to share your concern about your health. TMJ pain is due to various reasons and is chronic in nature. As your mouth is always in movement, there is no rest. You should get a X ray done for ruling out any other complication. My suggestion is to have proper consultation so that it is controlled in time. If you don't take proper steps to control it, then it will create a long standing complication. Meanwhile, I'll suggest you to do Luke warm water gurgling with salt 3 times a day especially after meals. If it doesn't improve in a week, pls do the above suggestion of consultation.

Teeth may gradually become yellow due to aging, hereditary factors, poor dental hygiene, or excessive consumption of tea, coffee, tobacco and cigarettes. In addition, high doses of antibiotics, climatic conditions, infection and improper metabolism can contribute to discoloring of teeth. You can try these home remedies to whiten your teeth naturally: 1) The best way to whiten your teeth naturally, however not always the easiest, is to simply brush your teeth after eating or drinking something. 2) A good oral mouth rinse can be made using hydrogen peroxide; use half water and half hydrogen peroxide, swish around in your mouth for about one minute, and then rinse, it acts as natural teeth whitening as well as has antibacterial properties. 3) Simply put a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for five to 20 minutes, or add a few drops to your toothbrush and brush it on. Another option is to apply coconut oil to a corner of a clean washcloth and rub it on the teeth. You can consult a dentist to get a teeth whitening treatment done.

If germs still present, visit the dentist again because you cannot remove it by yourself. If by chance it's not germs, your dentist will clarify and perform scaling and polishing if needed or not done previously.

Sir. My father had a swelling on his left parotid gland a month ago. The doctor had a doubt that it might be a tumour and preferred a niddle test after his course of medications was over. Upon ultrasound scanning it was found that the gland was slightly enlarged. He took the medicines for 15 days and the disease was cured. Now he complains of having pain in his jaws since last week out of which the LEFT side seems to be more painful. As he had been consuming beetle nuts ,pan masala and alcohol for quite a long time, the doctor said that it is a oral submucous fibrosis and has prescribed him medicines for the same. He now worries that something might be associated with the parotid gland problem. Is their anything to worry.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Sir.
My father had a swelling on his left parotid gland a month ago. The doctor had a doubt that it might be a tumour...
Firstly parotid gland and sub mucus fibrosis are two different diseases. Parotid gland is affected by infection, tumor but not by OSMF. The pain and swelling on swelling on left side could be because of parotid gland infection. If you are still in doubt the next test can be MRI scan. As far as Sub mucus fibrosis, a progressive non painful condition caused by tobacco betel nut chewing with characteristic features of reduced mouth opening, burning sensation with spicy food. It’s a precancerous condition. The patient must lay off his habits, chillies spicy food and the medication has a limited role in curing the fibrous bands already formed. The surgical option is exercised when the disease is too severe. My advise is to rule out parotid gland disease first and stop all habits tobacco, alcohol, spicy fried boiling hot food and take medication for SMF.

Hi lybrate-user, Considering the high sugar content in sodas and food that we eat on a regular basis, it is surprising that more people haven’t gotten gum infections known as gingivitis. Blacked out teeth, a greenish crusty layer of foul smelling bacteria and worse portraits are the long term effects of gum infection. While treatments at the dentist may be expensive, there are ways to maintain your teeth using home remedies. 1. Gargling With Salt Water - Surprisingly this very popular method of preserving the mouth has faded with time. Gargling with salt water was a way like mouthwash to clean your teeth. It still is in fact. The salt in the water will dry out the skin of your gums and strain the bacterial infections in your mouth. Potency of the salt water solution would be dictated by the severity of the case but not to exceed 15-20% as you can actually salt your gums so much that they crack when they dry. When gargling with salt water you also don’t want to swallow it. 2. Clove Oil - Good for pain, clove oil has a naturally pain-relieving effect. It is a very sugary substance but works as an analgesic and keeps pain far away. Clove oil may not be the best direct way to cure gingivitis, but for very bad pain related to gingivitis; clove oil in addition to treatment will help soothe the pain. It numbs nerves and acts like a weak form of general anesthesia. 3. Garlic - Garlic can be useful in dealing with pain as well. Garlic, however, has very astounding properties when it comes to boosting your immune system. Garlic that is boiled in coconut oil will make a rich garlic oil that can be rubbed into the gums to both combat the spread of gingivitis and to soothe the pain. 4. Baking Soda - Baking soda works well as an agent with which to rinse your teeth. Baking soda is usually a kitchen item and may be readily available where hydrogen peroxide powder may not. Using both together is fine too – baking soda, hydrogen peroxide powder and salt was an early form of toothpaste at one point. 5. Hydrogen Peroxide: If you take just a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide powder and put it into a cup of water, then rinse, you’ll be doing yourself and everyone else a big favor if you have gingivitis. Hydrogen peroxide powder kills bacteria related to bad breath. When your jaws smell fouler than what you eat – hop on a twice daily dose of gargling with hydrogen peroxide power solution in mostly water. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Hello. A white patch in the mouth, we call Leukoplakia. But again there are many criteria to come to that diagnosis. Also its a thing to be thought about seriously if its there. If possible do consult a surgeon nearby or text me the pic, to consult, as soon as possible and treat it accordingly.

Sir, I have a habit of chewing tobacco, gutkha n smoking too. My internal mouth layers are damaged. So I can not eat normal food without drinking water simultaneously. Without water my mouth burns very much. Please suggest some cure or medicines. Thanks.

MDS ORAL MEDICINE AND RADIOLOGY, Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query. As far as the burning sensation in your mouth is concerned, it can be because of the oral submucous fibrosis secondary to your gutkha chewing habit. Nothing to worry, immediately quit the habit. You need to consult an oral physician and get it evaluated and get the treatment started. The treatment includes the intralesional injections of steroids and hyaluronic acid. Consume lot of turmeric in your routine food. For complete details you can ask the questions in private consults. I hope I have answered your query. Take care.
