Blood disorders usually affect the liquid part of the blood which we know as plasma. These disorders can affect the red blood cells, the white blood cells as well as platelets that facilitate blood clots. Thalassemia, anemia, malaria, lymphoma, myeloma and other such diseases are all a part of blood disorders.
HOW IS BLOOD DISORDERS DIAGNOSED?
It may be diagnosed by:
• Blood Tests including CBC, reticulocyte count and special tests of blood cells.
• Hemoglobinopathy Evaluation
• Bone marrow biopsy
HOW IS BLOOD DISORDERS TREATED?
The treatment depends on the stage of illness, age factor and overall health status. For platelet disorders, medications such as Nplate may be recommended for clotting problems. For white blood cell disorders, antibiotics may be recommended. To repair or replace damaged marrow, bone marrow transplant is performed.
