Basically Seborrhea is a common kind of skin ailment that affects the scalp. Here one would notice symptoms that are quite similar to dandruff including acute itchiness in the scale followed with red patches and inflammation in some cases. Usually the diagnosis is based on patient's medical history and physical examination. Very rarely, the doctors suggest skin biopsy.
HOW IS SEBORRHEA TREATED?
The dermatologist may prescribe anti-dandruff shampoo consisting of coal tar, salicylic acid, ketoconazole, selenium sulphide and zinc pyrithione. Various antifungal & sulphur content substances are recommended along with corticosteroid lotion. For babies, the doctor may suggest washing the scalp with baby shampoo & warm water.
