epilepsy is a very broad diagnosis and you seem to be taking medicines for the last 33 years. For treatment of Epilepsy the type of Seizure and epilepsy you are having needs to be clarifies , how much doses are you taking (its according to your weight) and what is the control are all important markers without these details it is not correct to advise you about the epilepsy. Dear , zeptol (carbamazepine) is a teratogenic drug, that may harm the foetus. It is ok to take it now. You delay pregnancy by few years (5 years). By the time of pregnancy you may try gradually tapering and stopping it. If not possible few other safer anti-epileptic medicines like lamotrigine may be tried, although small risk of cleft palate is there, but no very serious risk.

Epilepsy is not a barrier in success. He can do easily whatever you want whenever he wants to study. Considering that there are multiple failures of stopping medicine ; its better to continue this medicine for many years. It is not a major issue to continue such kind of medicine for many years.

You should talk to an epilepsy specialist before stopping it. The chances of seizure recurrence after stopping medications is about 50-50. Studying earlier Mris and repeating the eeg might help in predicting if she needs to continue taking medications.

For trigeminal neuralgia, tegrital (carbamazepine) is most effective drug. He is on very minimal dose, dose can be adjusted if required but some effects are possible like sedation, rashes and decreased sodium level. Most of the patients require long term treatment.

No the episode is not an absence seizure that has different features, but it may be related to his medicine intake and may have been drowsy. I suggest you keep amental note of the episode and continue with medication, in case it recurs you must visit your doctor as it may be a seizure (not necessarily absence) and he may have to be reviewed.
