About Somastin 3Mg Injection

Somastin 3Mg Injection is a growth hormone-inhibiting hormone that is used in the treatment of carcinoid tumours, acute bleeding of oesophagal varices, and acromegaly.

It is also helpful in the treatment of acute pancreatitis. Somastin 3Mg Injection functions by thwarting the effect of specific natural hormones such as growth hormones and serotonin.

Somastin 3Mg Injection could be administered subcutaneously as well as intravenously. The recommended dosage of Somastin 3Mg Injection is 250mcg as an I.V bolus injection over a period of 3-5 minutes at an infusion rate of 3mg/12 hour.

Some individuals may also experience side effects of Somastin 3Mg Injection like nausea, slow heart rate, abdominal discomfort, flushing, palpitations, chills, diarrhoea, fatigue, skin rash, indigestion, and pain at the injection site.

Additionally, women who do not wish to conceive need to practice a contraceptive method while taking Somastin 3Mg Injection. It is also not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary.

    This medication is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring hormone Somatostatin that inhibits the release of a number of other hormones and neurotransmitters such as adenohypophyseal growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, thyrotrophin, calcitonin, insulin, glucagon, gastrointestinal hormones like cholecystokinin, gastrin , pepsin, renal renin and more by binding to specific somatostatin receptors (SSTR).
