He should not sleep that much. Itis time you visited your doctor again and inform him of this development. Schizophrenia can be a very crippling disease, if treatment is tampered with by amateurs or by lay people. You must strictly follow doctor’s instructions. If you push the expectation on him, you may reverse all the benefits, inadvertently. Instead of worrying about changing medication, I recommend that you put him on some counseling along with the medication. This will help him develop copi...more

Dear lybrate-user,
If you are unable to tolerate any drug for OCD, please go in for cognitive therapy with exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP). It will be done on many weekly sessions by a clinical psychologist or CBT trained psychiatrist. If one of your friends or family joins as co therapist, it will be easy for you to do the homeworks in therapy. It can be done online also. You are young and suffering for long - don't allow your OCD and social phobia to spoil your future. Take ...more

hi,

your daughter is 7 yrs old . assuming that she is more than 20 kgs we have to calculate the dosage. in your query it is mentioned as hypertension , but i think it is hyperactivity .

risperidone is generally safe in children. the dosage you mentioned is from drops . it is better to give tablet in 7 yrs of age . we have to start from lower dose (0.5 mg ) and we should increase gradually to reach the desired goal.

the common side effect will be sleepiness. so you c...more

Dear lybrate-user,
If your psychiatrist says, it is due to anxiety. Please believe it and deal with your anxiety in non medical methods. If he says that these medicines don't have side effect, like difficulty in passing urine. There may be other reasons for your difficulty which gets precipitated by any medicine. I don't know your age. But I know you are a man. It may be due to prostate enlargement. Why don't you consult an urologist or get one ultrasound abdomen and pelvis with measurement ...more

The psychiatrist has suggested correctly about the medication. Low dose sizodon (risperidone) is used for children with autism and behavioral problems. Try to get hold of a mot pediatrics (pediatric occupational therapist) and a team of psychiatrist/ clinical psychologist/ ot and speech therapist for multimodal treatment of autism. Good luck.

Dear lybrate-user,
you psychiatrist knows your diagnosis and treatment algorithms. Sizodon or quetiapine is given to augment fluoxetine and atomoxetine - not just for insomnia. They are given at low dose also. Still you need to make lifestyle changes to control your weight, sugar levels and other medical illnesses. (i don't know your age - but I know your weight as 104 kg). Don't worry about withdrawals now - it is a long way.

My wife, age 27 year undergoing ocd treatment since our marriage about last 3.5 years. She was taking sertraline .we are not planning for baby for this medication, thought once medication stops or reduced we will plan for a child. In the mean time I change my job and move to new city. We approach a new doctor, we explain all things to doctor, doctors advice’s to postpone our child planning for few months, and doctor wants result and wants to change medicine, prescribed flunil 40, clonil 25, rospitril 0.5. Last 20 days she was taking this medicine. Now problem is she missed her period and we check for pregnancy and found positive. Consult gynecologist, and gynecologist said it has been 34 days she pregnant. Please suggest what to do now, should we continue pregnancy? Or abort it and continue medication? As the medicines are not safe for pregnancy and it is going to our first child, I do not want to take any risk.

Hi, data on use of these medications in pregnancy is limited but studies have not found an increased risk of malformations in the baby with their (fluoxetine, chlorpromazine and risperidone) use in pregnancy. A detailed scan to look at the baby’s body parts should be performed between 18-20 weeks of pregnancy. The medicines should be switched to single instead of multiple if possible after review by the psychiatrist. Also, the baby needs to be observed after birth as it may show withdrawl symp...more

Hello,
It seems that the diagnosis of schizophrenia has been confirmed and she has placed on medication. there is an urgent need for her to continue the medication and schizophrenia needs to be controlled. IVF can be carried out at the same time. But remember that medication for schizophrenia is must for her. there is no definite proof as yet that resperidone can harm the fetus and it shouyld be used as the benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to fetus
