This medication is a synthetic glucocorticoid that specifically binds to cytoplasmic receptors. It inhibits leukocyte entry at the inflammation site and interferes in inflammatory response mediator functioning. The medicine has both fungistatic and fungicidal actions. It binds to phospholipids in the fungal cell membrane and alters its permeability. It also works as a bactericidal by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, which is essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to expansion and destabilization of the bacterial DNA and causes cell death. Basically, the drug is a local anaesthetic and antiarrhythmic that works by stabilizing the neuronal membrane by blocking the voltage-gated sodium channels. This inhibits depolarisation of the postsynaptic nerve that prevents the transmission of pain signals.
