I have been using Doxacard 2, MFD by Cipla due to enlarged prostate and this makes urination easier. Incidentally this is not available now and have tried looking for Duracard 2 by Cipla only. This also is not available. Request to advise proper substitute and easily available medicine.

Mr. has consulted a doctor in a hospital. He has been advised tab silodosin 8 mg hs for relief of his urinary symptoms of bph. He is around 70 yrs. His liver and kidney function tests normal. He is no bp and is not taking any other drug. This medicine is expensive for long term. He will stop taking it soon due to cost. His family doctor has advised him to take doxazosin instead, which is cheaper, has few side effects and is equally effective. Should he make this switch as advised by his family doctor. Is dosage schedule of doxazosin similar to silodosin - 8 mg hs as this drug is available from 1 to 8 mg strengths. Any side effects.

doxazosin is not very commonly prescribed by urologists. rather it is a very old drug. you can try urimax0.4mg which is a cheaper and a better drug.

Some drugs used to treat BPH (prostate enlargement) can cause difficulty in maintaining an erection. Men who take alpha-blockers such as doxazosin (Cardura) and terazosin (Hytrin) may experience decreased ejaculation. This is because alpha-blockers relax the bladder and prostate muscle cells. Alpha reductase inhibitors can also cause ED.
