This medicine only treats bacterial infections and doesn’t work for viral infections like flu. It works as an antibiotic by stopping the growth of bacteria and also killing it. Cefi XL 100 Tablet belongs to the third-generation cephalosporins. It works as a bactericidal by binding to the penicillin-binding proteins and inhibits the bacterial cell wall synthesis. This, in turn, inhibits the final Transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, thus inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis. Bacteria eventually lyse due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes (autolysins and murein hydrolases) while cell wall assembly is arrested.
