About Bandy-Plus 12 Tablet

Bandy-Plus 12 Tablet is combination medicine, used in the treatment of parasites and worm infestations in the body. It fights against the worms to treat the infection.

Bandy tablet falls under the group of drugs called anthelmintic in combination with antiparasitic. This medication is used to cure cases of strongyloidiasis; which are roundworm infections. It also treats head lice, scabies and river blindness.

Before taking this medication, discuss with your doctor:

  • If you are allergic to any ingredient contained within this tablet.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to concieve, or are breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking prescriptive or non-prescriptive drugs, herbal products, or dietary supplements.
  • If you are suffering from more than one parasitic infection at the same time.
  • If you have asthma or a weak immune system.
  • If you are alcoholic.

The dosage of this medication will be according to your doctor’s prescription. It will be determined by your age, the severity of your condition and your medical history. Those with very severe fungal eye infection may need treatment every 3-6 months. In case of suspected drug overdose seek medical supervision immediately.

It is a prescription medicine. It can be taken with or without food, but it must be taken at a fixed time to ensure the better efficacy. Do not consume more than the recommended dose, as this may have harmful effects on your body. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for any health condition. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult with their doctor before taking it. Avoid drinking alcohol as it can cause excessive drowsiness with this medicine.

Accidental intoxication with, or significant exposure to unknown quantities of Bandy-Plus 12 Tablet, either by ingestion, inhalation, injection, or exposure to body surfaces, has resulted in the following adverse effects: rash, edema, headache, dizziness, asthenia, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea; other adverse effects that have been reported include seizure and ataxia. Treatment is supportive; usual methods for decontamination are recommended.

If the patient is infected with strongyloidiasis, repeated stool examinations are required to document clearance of the organisms; repeated follow-up and retreatment is usually required in the treatment of onchocerciasis.

    How does this medication work?

    This tablet belongs to broad-spectrum antiparasitic agents. It works by acting on glutamate-gated chloride ion channels which occur in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. This effect increases the influx of chloride ions and causes hyperpolarization of nerve cells, resulting in paralysis and death of the parasite. It also causes degeneration of cytoplasmic microtubules and tegmental cells. This results in depletion of energy and metabolic processes and the parasites are killed.

      • Interaction with Medicine

        Increased effect: Dexamethasone increases plasma levels of Bandy-Plus 12 Tablet metabolites; praziquantel may increase plasma concentrations of albendazole by 50%; Bandy-Plus 12 Tablet inhibits hepatic cytochrome P-450 1A and may consequently interact by increasing the concentrations of many drugs which are metabolized by this route; food (especially fatty meals) increases the oral bioavailability by 4-5 times.

        Discontinue therapy if LFT elevations are significant; may restart treatment when decreased to pretreatment values. Becoming pregnant within 1 month following therapy is not advised. Corticosteroids should be administered 1-2 days before Bandy-Plus 12 Tablet therapy in patients with neurocysticercosis to minimize inflammatory reactions and steroid and anticonvulsant therapy should be used concurrently during the first week of therapy for neurocysticercosis to prevent cerebral hypertension. If retinal lesions exist in patients with neurocysticercosis, weigh risk of further retinal damage due to albendazole-induced changes to the retinal lesion vs benefit of disease treatment.
