It should be avoided if symptoms are not too severe till the age of 6 years as it can cause growth spurt. Meanwhile you can try some psychological techniques like parent skill training for adhd (read it on google).

If depression is diagnosed by specialist, then bupropion will definitely help although first preference is given to other ssris depending on patient profile. But atomoxetine is not used for depression as 1st or 2nd line unless adhd symptoms are there along with depression. So amtalk to your psychiatrist and clarify your diagnosis first and why atomoxetine is added.

In clinical settings, side effects are not much. Moderate to severe adhd does need medicines to control it.

Effects are till you take medicine but with age there is gradual decline in adhd symptoms. And medicine helps with precious years of schooling and improves performance.

Your prescribing doctor will review response, monitor for any possible side effects and if appropriate will titrate up the dose gradually till there is effective control of your adhd symptoms. Most of them respond well to concerta (which is an extended release preparation of methylphenidate which is a stimulant medication). If for whatever reason concerta does not suit you, there is no harm in trying atomoxetine. M...more
