Beta blockers are used quite often to control hypertension and related cardiac problems in patients with diabetes also. They are fairly safe. Some times hypoglycemic episodes may not be easily recognised. Thanks.

No beta blockers does not affect diabetes and Propanol and Atenolol are both similar medications.

Atenolol is not a drug for Anxiety. Its Propranolol that is useful for the physical components of anxiety reponses (trembling, quivering of voice etc). Ability to act on Beta 2 receptors gives it the above utility, while atenolol is only active on B1 receptiors. Moreover, Atenolol does not cross blood brain barrier so I do not see the merit of it here.

Atenolol is similar to metoprolol and will work similarly amlodipine is another bp medicine, so combination is double dose. If atenolol keeps bp controlled then amlodipine need not be taken, but if it is high with atenolol then combination should be tried.

I agree with you that medicines for anxiety are habit forming and should be avoided. reduce your weight by eating more of seasonal vegetables and fruits and reduce intake of salt and take more potassium through citrus fruits like oranges and lemon juice and water reduce stress and anxiety related issues with the help of yoga and meditation. walk around a bit but do more of arms stretching.
regarding betablockers, they're safe.
propranolol does cause breathlessness in people prone to ast...more
