Yes it completely safe (though no medicne is 100% safe) but as malaria would have killed you your doctor took worse decision to give you safest of all available options among anti malaria medicine and that too very effective
so do not worry in real world till date no strong evidence against its use has been ever published so we take it safe.

Meantime, take homoeopathic medicines - Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's Topi-Arnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. And wrap crepe bandage over it.
