Hello, Thanks for the query.
The anti-thyroid treatment is usually given for a period of 18 months or some times up to 24 months. In case if the level of TSH returns to normal earlier, then treatment is discontinued. Since you have not mentioned the duration of the treatment (how long the drug is being taken) or current TSH level, plus whether you have the symptoms of the disease, it is difficult to give any opinion. Thanks.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
For confirmed Hyperthyroidism one of the main treatment available is to use anti-thyroid drugs like Carbimazole in adequate dose for at least 18 to 24 months. Therefore, if she has been diagnosed to have hyperthyroidism then the treatment given is correct. It takes a few weeks to see the benefits of the treatment. It is necessary to observe TSH values once in 3 to 4 months. Since you have not mentioned any details about the thyroid hormone levels, it is difficult...more

Hello, thanks for the query.
The t4 value mentioned (1.96 ng/ml) appears to be incorrect, because that is showing too low. In hyperthyroidism it is usually very high (> 12 ng/ml). Tsh is lower than 0.01 or 0.02 mu/l. Please check that. If you have been on treatment for just one month all the symptoms will not go away. Tsh value needs to come to around 3 to 4 mu or even a bit high. All the symptoms mentioned are seen in hyperthyroidism. The treatment needs to be taken for 18 to 24 months. In ...more

Hello, thanks for the query. The thyroid hormone levels suggest she has hyperthyroidism. So carbamizole needs to be continued. (dosage is not mentioned). Usually that drug needs to be given for 18 months to 24 months. Once tsh levels comes around 3 to 4 mu/l (or normal range) then tablets can be discontinued. In quite a few cases hyperthyroidism is reversed. However, in a few patients it may come back after a few months. That needs to be observed with once is 3 to 6 months check up of thyroid pr...more

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Treatment for Hyperthyroidism with anti-thyroid drugs has to be continued for 12 to 18 months, some times up to 24 months. Once the TSH level comes to around 3 mU/L (0.5 to 5 mU/L), then drug is discontinued. Later TSH is checked on regular basis (every six moth). If it remains with in normal range, that means one is cured form hyperthyroidism.
Taking treatment for a few weeks is not good at all. It does not have any specific action. Thanks.
