Excessive mucus production can be due to many causes. Since you have not mentioned anything about the tests that you have undergone, I will advice you to meet a good Chest Specialist. Basic Investigations needs to be done. Depending on the results doctors can take further call on your management. from what you describe your mother had 3 courses of antibiotics along with steroids and medication to help with her breathing. If her symptoms have significantly reduced, then very little will be achieved by getting an hrct, but if you feel it will put your mind at rest, you may get it done while noting that unnecessary radiation exposure is not good. If runny nose is not too bad, leave it alone. It should settle in few days. You can try giving saline nasal drops and steam inhalation.
If runny nose is troublesome use syrup sinarest AF 3 ml thrice daily for 5 days with saline drops to the nose if blocked. Give warm soups and plenty of water.
