Myofibrillar Myopathies is a term used to describe a group of rare genetic neuromuscular disorders that may be diagnosed in childhood. Symptoms of the disease however appear after the age of 40. Typical characteristic of the disease is slowly progressive muscle weakness. Symptoms are:
• Muscle stiffness and weakness
• Stiffening of joints
• Muscle cramps
• Frequent falls+C46
• Facial weakness
• Difficulty swallowing and talking

Diagnosis of Myofibrillar Myopathies is based on clinical findings and evaluation of family history. Diagnostic tests include nerve conduction studies, electromyography and muscle biopsy. Molecular genetic testing helps confirm diagnosis.
HOW IS MYOFIBRILLAR MYOPATHIES TREATED?
Treatment of Myofibrillar Myopathies aims at supporting weakened muscles. Implantation of mechanical device that regulates heart beat is one treatment method.
