Regular brushing and cleaning between teeth helps teeth and gums remain healthy, and prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Good gum hygiene helps to prevent dental problems and it also helps to prevent or delay dental erosion. Gum Disease means infection or inflammation of the tissues that surround the teeth and most of the cases of Gum Diseases are plaque-related. As plaque contains different types of bacteria, a build-up of some types of bacteria is associated with developing Gum Disease. Depending upon the severity of the Gum Disease, it is divided into two types namely Gingivitis and Periodontitis.
While Gum Hygiene is the support for healthy teeth, Gum hygiene treatment involves assessing the gums and teeth, checking for any inflammation and carefully removing the tartar using manual or ultrasonic instruments. Removing the tartar makes the teeth easier to keep clean. After the gum treatment, a dentist advises the patient to regularly brush the teeth twice a day, limit the amount of sugary food and drinks, reduce the amount of acid in contact with the teeth and clean the tongue with a toothbrush. Also, regular visit to the Dentist/Dental Surgeon helps in maintaining Gum Hygiene. Following the Gum Hygiene regime regularly will result in healthy teeth.
