Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. You might feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. Restlessness or feeling wound-up or on edge being easily fatigued difficulty concentrating or having their minds go blank irritability muscle tension difficulty controlling the worry sleep problems (difficulty falling or staying asleep or restless, unsatisfying sleep) these are some of the symptoms. U seem to be having anxiety disorder more in front of females, kindly consult a psychiatrist and get treated.

Dear, as you are already aware smoking is dangerous. Apart from the nicotine related addiction and health hazards, you inhale more than 4000 carcinogenic chemicals when you smoke. There is also a high risk of developing these problems to other people near you through passive smoking. Awareness is the basic for quitting smoking. Awareness provides will power. Know more about tobacco smoking health effects. For craving or withdrawal symptoms you can use nicotine chewing gums or nicotine patches. There are other way by gradual reducing and keeping some promises. Promise yourself, that you will not smoke in office, at home, in front of family members and dear friends etc. Never buy cigerettes in packets. Whenever you feel like smoking, go to the shop and buy one. Keep these promises strictly and you will see the quantity reduces drastically. Then you can stop it gradually. Take care.

everyone likes sunny leone. but too much thinking about her its not good for mental health. they are celebrities how it is possible to maintain affectionate relations with them.you are spending too much time on thinking to her. it is better to come out of this stage. it is not negative or bad thought. it is good thought. but too much about her it is not good. it is not related to any psychological disorder. you are not become psychy. fascism is a kind of psychological perversion. my suggestion better to remove her pictures and videos on your computer. just time observe her. but dont give too much priority on her. it is common at this age. but you should control yourself. better to concentrate on your career aspects. better to plan on your study aspects. slowly reach your study plan. dont sit alone. dont think alone. better to share your internal feelings and problems with your close friends and family members. be sociable all the time. be happy.ok all the best.

You should go for immediate medical check up and investigate these symptoms you are having. You must also go for counseling for your habit and since you have tried it many times and failed, you may consider admitting yourself to a rehabilitation center to help you give it up. The problems you are having are not at all healthy and smoking could be the cause. The habit can be very difficult to halt because of the many conditions attached to smoking. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here?s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world ? you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. All the damage you incurred earlier because of the smoking can be reverted back to normal in quick time.

Smoking 4 cigrate a day can cause cancer. As I used to smoke 6 a day and reduced to 4 now. I also get throat infection easily n cough n cold too. Pls suggest some remedy n do's n don't.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear Badshah, Congratulations for reducing to 4 cigarettes a day. Please try to stop smoking. It has many health benefits in the long run apart from throat infection and cough.. Why wait for cancer with 4 cigarettes a day. You are young. With 4 a day also in the long run your risk for cancer is higher than a non smoker. When you stop suddenly, you may get withdrawal symptoms like restlessness, irritability, lack of concentration, increased hunger, sleep disturbance, headache, impatience, anxiety, depression, etc. If you have them please don’t get back to smoking, take nicotine gum or lozenge or patch. They are available in all medical shops. You don’t need a prescription from doctors. By 3 months, you will be able to stop both cigarettes and gum fully without any withdrawal symptoms. Please feel confident that you can do it and give yourself some gift for doing it, like vacation or books or new mobile. Smoking is a chronic relapsing condition like diabetes and B.P. So please don’t worry if you restart smoking. Start all over again to stop. You will learn the situations that make you smoke and avoid them. Please think of health benefits and money saved often. Plan how to avoid relapsing situations, like smoking friends, along with alcohol, stressful feeling or depression. Delay, drink, deep breathe, distract and discuss are the helpful tips. Increase of non smoking zones, gift yourself for stopping smoking. Even chewing cinnamon or clove may delay. Please remember that the urge to smoke comes and goes like waves. Delay and see whether it goes away. It will like a passing cloud. All the best.

I hate myself and my life because my biggest enemy and weakness is me. I am the biggest trouble maker of mine. I am a stupid and fool. I’ve grown up in the environment of too much care, fear and adopted fear in my nature. I have too much of hesitation and assertiveness. My communication is very poor and can't express in polite manner give an impression like arrogant. I feel inside is good but express as it ease because I feel Ego. My biggest problem is fear. I shout loudly in sleep sometimes. I always feel I don't know anything and others feel bad about me and I will be shameless. I used to depend the most on parents and I used to do what they say. My life decisions also I can't take myself and did what they said. I came to Bangalore for pursuing B. Tech, I felt inferior by looking at the environment. I used to stay in a small room and I dint even know any languages properly, not even my mother tongue because that slang was not that good. I tried and could not complete B.E, wasted that fee also. When I got backlogged, for exam fee and attendance shortage, I had to keep my dad's watch in pawn broker's shop. Later my dad came to know and screwed up like anything. I dint like all these by hurting my parents and cheating them. 10 years got wasted. I did fraud things like this. After that long gap, I was in big trouble and mind became blank. Don't know what to do. I feel shame on myself. Started Orkut and fb chatting to overcome my emotions and addicted. I wanted get easy money so I attracted by Lottery but never got anything. I tried online easy money sites also. I got a small job in a hospital for 6500/- per month, that also closed after two years. I searched for some other jobs, I got offered for small pay and my dad suggested doing a business with the help of one of my uncles. Deposited some amount to start the business in our town itself. We completed the project on time and submitted, but he dint pay and said client cheated. Started searching for other projects, but all looked like fake or some other risky things. Depression got doubled. Then I joined RK Math, and did a personality development course and attend some classes on Impact foundation, Hyderabad. As per my brother's suggestion, I learned SAP and did certification, could clear it successfully. I studied B. Sc in correspondence Due to the long gap in education, I dint get a job in any good MNC. So I had to join some small company without pay. After 8 months, they sent me to Jamshedpur for a project on TATA Steel. I struggled a lot to adopt with Hindi, atmosphere and work environment also. It took almost 6 months to get adopted in those circumstances. I worked there for around 2 years. I had to leave this job because of less pay and homesickness. I applied for many companies and placed in a small company in Bangalore. I felt a bit relaxed. I did well in the interview. I proud this moment, because I got it with my own efforts. Good MNC's not accepting me for the gap in education. I feel every time work pressure and insecurity of loosing job. My parents are very much worried about me. I am no more can avoid this worry from them. Whatever I don't want to give them any worries and let them enjoy and live peacefully. I feel like ending my life and let my parents be relaxed and live peacefully since I am no more supporting my family and becoming like a big burden on them. My age crossed 34 and not married where all of my friends settled and married, living happily. All good things happening late. I need discipline, good daily routine, good attitude, enjoy the work and the way of life. I should behave politely and confidently. Enjoy work and challenges I am facing. I want to lead happy life with peace and enjoy all challenges and grow in life honestly.

I am suffering from anxiety, over thinking and less decision making problem please help.
I will try to answer within the limitations of the available information. It seems your primary problem is one of anxiety; there may or may not be other associated problems that you have not detailed. This could be long term resultant as part of your personality, or an anxiety disorder that you have developed in time. Either way, if it is not very severe, cognitive behaviour therapy with a clinical psychologist is a good start. If it is severe, anti anxiety medications would help and then once your anxiety is partly in control, you could also consider therapy.

It is never advisable to take medicine right away for feeling low without consulting psychologist or psychiatrist. Many times these feeling low. Is part of life's normal ups and downs and we all have ability to bounce back. So I would suggest you to talk to a professional adviser first. If yoh would like to try something on your own then exercise is the number one mood lifter. Physical activity at least 30 minutes a day will help you change the chemical imbalance and lift your mood. You may also try simple meditation or chanting etc for 5 minutes daily. Engaging yourself in music either playing music or listening to music, reading a good book, gardening, coloring those adult color books etc will also help. Do let me know if I can help you in any way. Hope this helps wishing you very best.

I am 20 years old and when I play football, after that my spinal cord became very pain and am addicted to smoking, how to stoke smoking.

MD - Microbiology, MBBS
General Physician, Coimbatore
Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, good evening. When you exert very much like playing football for hours together, you may get this type of pain, if your pain is very severe, kindly consult an orthopedician. To quit smoking, you can strictly follow some of my instructions. 1. Strong will power. 2. Reduce smoking to half ten days and then further to quarter number of what you are smoking for next ten days. When you reach 1 cigarette, then continue for next fifteen days. Then you smoke one cigarette on alternate days and then try to smoke on cigar per week and finally make it 1 cigar every two weeks and then 1 cigar every month and finally quit smoking. Thank you.

One of my family member is addicted with smoking and is unable to relax. How can he quit smoking?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Whoever it is, this much is clear, whoever has the smoking habit has to want to stop the habit himself, first. Anybody else that wants to stop someone else’s habit, even if you use force, cannot succeed in the long run until the person himself wants to stop it. Now the person will want to stop the habit as soon as he has ‘Hit Rock Bottom’ when he is really ready to give it up and wants help and support. You can keep encouraging and warning him about the damage he is causing to himself and that the effects may be visible much later. Initially he needs to meet with a counselor who will encourage him to give up the habit by pointing out the imminence of ‘Hitting Rock Bottom’, and some responsive candidates respond with a serious motivation. Once that has been achieved he can be taken for detoxification either to a hospital or to a rehabilitation center and he can then follow their schedule for complete cessation. If it is not too serious, he can cope with counseling itself to sufficiently give it up.

I am 22 year male recently analysed off having dyslexia and adhd which is affecting my studies and when inquired about how to help myself got a reply that an adult of this age cannot be helped what can I do about this.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
It is difficult to treat adhd at any time in life, period. So, considering advanced ages, it makes it tougher because the behaviors are all set in and reinforced. However, do not lose hope: there is nothing that is impossible in life except that we have not yet discovered the solution. Every effort is worth it and you should never be in want for not having tried. I also believe that something done is better than nothing done, even if it is wrong: passivity is criminal. You need to combine medication and therapy for something effective to emerge for you. There are three areas of focus in therapy that needs serious work: concentration, hyperactivity, and impulse control. You will need to put yourself on a strict time-structure with planned activities which have reasonable and reachable goals. These must be monitored and assessed regularly to give you an idea of progress. There are concentration exercises in yoga, and the ear and eye exercise, that will benefit you a lot. Meditation will be tremendously useful to moderate your responses and to develop focus and good self-control. Emotional therapy will play a significant role to alleviate the impulsive behavior to a large extent. If all this is done in a social context i. E. In groups or by mixing with other people, you will gain tremendously. You need to be cooperative at all times. Your diet could do with less carbohydrates and a good bit of fiber. It is best to avoid high-energy foods. Vigorous exercise of at least 30 minutes a day will expunge the high energy levels. The treatment is long term and arduous but it is worth putting in this effort for a reasonable outcome. Regarding the dyslexia there are reading exercises by using index cards that will help you with those words that you particularly read wrong. Some teachers who specialize in treating this disorder have equipment and methods that employ the four avenues of word-learning: visual, audio, kinesthetic and tactile. They employ and associate letter and word sounds i. E. From the phonics with the phonemes.
