Give her a pain killer now and then consult a dentist. Pain killer is only going to give her temporary relief. The cause of pain can only be found out after a check up.

Bad breath

BDS
Dentist
Ask Free Question
Medically called halitosis, can result from poor dental health habits and may be a sign of other health problems. Bad breath can also be made worse by the types of foods you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits.

How does what you eat affect breath?
Basically, all the food eaten begins to be broken down in your mouth. As foods are digested and absorbed into the bloodstream, they are eventually carried to your lungs and given off in your breath. If you eat foods with strong odors (such as garlic or onions), brushing and flossing -- even mouthwash -- merely covers up the odor temporarily. The odor will not go away completely until the foods have passed through your body.

Why do poor habits cause bad breath?
If you don't brush and floss teeth daily, food particles can remain in your mouth, promoting bacterial growth between teeth, around the gums, and on the tongue. This causes bad breath. Antibacterial mouth rinses also can help reduce bacteria. In addition, odor-causing bacteria and food particles can cause bad breath if dentures are not properly cleaned.

Smoking or chewing tobacco-based products also can cause bad breath, stain teeth, reduce your ability to taste foods, and irritate your gums.

What health problems are associated with bad breath?
Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. Bacteria cause the formation of toxins to form, which irritate the gums. If gum disease continues untreated, it can damage the gums and jawbone.

Other dental causes of bad breath include poorly fitting dental appliances, yeast infections of the mouth, and dental caries (cavities).

The medical condition dry mouth (also called xerostomia) also can cause bad breath. Saliva is necessary to moisten the mouth, neutralize acids produced by plaque, and wash away dead cells that accumulate on the tongue, gums, and cheeks. If not removed, these cells decompose and can cause bad breath. Dry mouth may be a side effect of various medications, salivary gland problems, or continuous breathing through the mouth.

Many other diseases and illnesses may cause bad breath. Here are some to be aware of: respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, postnasal drip, diabetes, chronic acid reflux, and liver or kidney problems.

What can I do to prevent bad breath?
Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you:

Practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoridetoothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Brush teeth after you eat (keep a toothbrush at work or school to brush after lunch). Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. Rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash twice a day. Dentures should be removed at night and cleaned thoroughly before being placed in your mouth the next morning.
See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor.

Stop smoking and chewing tobacco-based products. Ask your dentist for tips on kicking the habit.

Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) or sucking on candy (preferably sugarless) also stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria. Gums and mints containing xylitol are best.

Keep a log of the foods you eat. If you think they may be causing bad breath, bring the log to your dentist to review. Similarly, make a list of the medications you take. Some drugs may play a role in creating mouth odors.

Who treats bad breath?
In most cases, your dentist can treat the cause of bad breath. If your dentist determines that your mouth is healthy and the odor is not of oral origin, you may be referred to your family doctor or to a specialist to determine the odor source and treatment plan. If the odor is due to gum disease, for example, your dentist can either treat the disease or refer you to a periodontist, a dentist who specializes in treating gum conditions.

What products can I use to eliminate bad breath?
An antiseptic mouthwash can help eliminate bacteria that cause bad breath. Ask your dentist about which product is best for you.

Hello, You are having anxiety-disorder. There are few yoga poses which helps in calming your mind and relieves stress, but first learn these under a qualified yoga-teacher as many poses are prohibited in certain diseases or medical conditions! Exercises: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Begin focusing each body part and relaxing it, then moving on. Keep the mind focused on relaxation, the breath should be normal. Relax the whole body. Anuloma involves inhaling through both nostrils together and exhaling each breath alternately between the left and right nostrils. The thumb of the right hand is used to manipulate the right nostril, while the pinky and ring finger are used to control the left nostril. Take Bakson’s Calm Aid tablet/ 1 tablet daily once for 4 weeks.

Recently after reading the ECG, Chief Physician asked us to consult a Cardiologist. He advised for taking a Echogram. Doctor said that there is nothing to worry at all about the Heart but the Heart is slightly larger due to the fact that my wife is a BP patient for over 15 years, taking amlopres L regularly. He said BP patients do generally have a slightly bigger heart. My wife is having gum problems as well she is not having arousal and desire. Do you want me to do any specific Test for Heart functioning and if so what are the tests to be carried out. My Wife is 58 years old.

Dear lybrateuser, -if the cardiologist has not recommended any further tests then not required -she should do exercise like regular brisk walking for about an hour on most days of the week to reduce her weight -avoid fried, junk food & amount of daily saturated & trans fat in diet, more fruits & vegetables in daily diet -do check for her blood sugar levels as her probems as mentioned by you could be due to high sugar levels or side effect of bp drugs she is taking -also get her checked up by a dentist for her gum problem.

Hello lybrate-user. Your complaint is not very clear. But I think you have ulcers in your mouth which is giving you pain. I prescribe kenacort ointment 0.1% to apply over the ulcers thrice a day. It will slowly heal up and you can eat properly. And you r having vit b deficiency in your food that also cause these ulcers in mouth. You need to take multivitamin tablets also. Thank you.

If these problems are bothering you repeatedly, then you must opt for removal of wisdom tooth. Get it done under local anesthetia or sedation, procedure will be painless.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need root canal treatment. Until then apply clove oil on the decayed tooth. Rinse frequently with mouth wash. Advise c. Amox 500mg 1-1-1, thrice daily, t. Metrogyl 400mg 1-1-1, thrice daily, t. Imol 1-1-1, thrice daily (contraindicated in conditions with gastric ulcer, asthma, wheezing, allergy), c. Becosules 1-0-0 once daily all for 3 days only. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. You might just need a professional cleaning of your teeth. Also learn proper brushing technique and use soft toothbrush. Be gentle on your teeth and gums while brushing. You can discuss about professional cleaning with your dentist.

I was advised for a laser dental cleaning procedure. I am 50 year old and a diabetic for more than 10 years. Two teeth requires extraction as suggested by Doctor. And also advised for re-shaping to smile for the front teeth. Is the laser cleaning be a safe procedure and adjusting the teeth by clipping advisable at this age. Please advise.

Hello , Cleaning teeth with Lasers is generally not done and i doubt the use of it, considering full mouth cleaning. Ultrasonic cleaning should be good enough for you. Extractions can be done if blood glucose stats are stable since you have not informed your blood glucose level, i am not in a situation to advise you as of now. Coming on to reshaping, Yes, it can be done with the use of crowns/laminates at any age considering the longitivtiy of tooth seems good. Regards

Cavities in your teeth. Act as a area where food lodgement takes place. Wherein it leads to bacterial infection. Leading to foul smell. Secondly it can also b due to tartar around your tooth and gums so you need to get the cavity cleaned and filled. And also need a full mouth up clean up to avoid foul smell.
