Gestational diabetes refers to the condition where your sugar levels go over the roof or are very high during pregnancy. If you are not pregnant and have sugar then that is regular diabetes. As a result of this rising level of sugar, you may see extreme fluctuations in the blood pressure too. Dizziness, feeling of tingling blood, sudden flashes, frequent urination, etc. are common symptoms here.
HOW IS GESTATIONAL DIABETES DIAGNOSED?
The babies born to mothers who had a poorly treated gestational diabetes condition are either too large or have jaundice. There can also be cases of stillbirth and hence testing for gestational diabetes is made a norm in the second trimester of pregnancy.
HOW IS GESTATIONAL DIABETES TREATED?
There is no medication given during pregnancy for gestational diabetes. However, strict lifestyle changes are implemented here. Alongside you should control your sugar intake, do exercises like walking and also have bitter gourd juice to naturally control the same.
DID YOU KNOW?
Gestational diabetes usually resolves after the baby is born. A second pregnancy within one year of the one when the mother had gestational diabetes results in a higher incidence of recurrence.
