My son is not getting success in his studies. He was admitted in Thapar college in Patiala in Electrical Engineering in 2013, however he was interested in Mechanical Engineering. The seats at the time his admission were filled there was no seat. He wanted to study Mechatroncis but we advised not to take being a new branch. He himself changed from electrical to Computer. In Dec 2013 he discontinued and came back home to study for entrance exam 2014 as well as for CBSE 2014 board exam to improve his percentage of marks but did not study hard and therefore no change in marks in any of the exam. In 2014 he was admitted in Bangalore in his desired branch Aeronautical Engineering and college. He could not qualify in basic papers of first and second semester like Math, Physics, Chemistry Basic Electronic, Electrical engineering and he could not admission in 3rd semester because of 7 back papers. He attempted in 2015,2016 and again appeared in Dec-Jan 2017 exam. Result may be announced in Feb 2017. I advised him to study non science stream like BBA, or BA LLB. However, I yet to get his response. May I get some advice in this situation to put him stream where he can progress and move up in his life. I have consulted NIMHAS Bangalore to find out any mental issue for not focusing in his studies but no such serious issue as per Doctor.

Firstly, you should get his aptitude test done. Secondly, Its good to explore various subjects but interest and aptitude is quite apparent from beginning. If he is unable to crack or qualify or progress in professional streams or subjects which are beyond his level of understanding, He should go for something lik BBA or mass communication or any field he has interest in. Let him decide. Do not decide for your child. Very important get his career counseling done. You can contact me for any guidance. All the best sir.

You have a social anxiety disorder. It can not go away from supplements. You need to take proper medications from psychiatrist to relieve your anxiety and most importantly psychotherapy from a psychologist in order to gain control over yourself and be free from anxiety and more confident in social scenarios. Start with mindfulness breathing exercise. You can consult me for same.

My friend (a paediatrician) a self made girl who is what she she is on her own (Not a very happy childhood and not emotionally att with family) was emotionally involved with her boyfriend, He was very caring supportive and would have been an ideal life partner. However she left him as he did not improve on his excessive drinking habits, while he moved on in life but he too is unhappy in his marriage. My friend is not able to forget him, and is mentally disturbed. She can not get back to him as he has not given up on his drinks. So crux is she is not able to get over him, nor is she able to accept him back into her life due to his drinking addictions. Now its even affecting her present as she is not able to connect emotionally and mentally with any other guy... And so is not able to go ahead with her marriage proposals. She sees him in everyone she tries to get close with and compares him and rejects him if any of his quality is not there. She fears that even if she marries she may start comparing her spouse in all aspects, and may affect her married life. She is totally left feeling lonely, frustrated and mentally disturbed all the time. She wants to erase him. She is ready for psychiatric /medical help only if it can get her to forget him, reboot her and bring the zing back in her life.

See, its obvious that people take time to move on. As you said she is self made and independant she has made her choice of not being with that guy who does not even love her enough to leave drinking for her. So if someone does not care about her staying with him or not what is that one thing which is not letting her get him out of her mind? She has to get over him to start life afresh and its her decision. No body would like to stay with a alchoholic so instead of comparing other things she should look for the positives in the prospects she is meeting. How long has it been since they broke up? Tell her to take psychotherapy from psychologist and if depression is diagnosed she might as well take medication. You can consult me for same. All the v best.

I am 25 years old, I had my first panic attack on 2nd oct 2016. (my grandma has passed away in sept 2016 at age of 76 she suicided, yet no one knows the reason but she used to say I ll die soon before her death and doc gave her depression tablets, they was no use. I was fine for a month, later I had a small argument with my husband where I told you depress me always. I was thinking over it and that day was my first panic attack took place like I started thinking am I depressed and what even I ll suicide that day onwards till nov 28 I used to get sweat hands and shortness breathing n all. I visited a psychiatrist he suggested me nexito 10 mg after a week I refuse to take as the reviews on net showed they r addictable. I do not want to rely on tabs anyway. Later I joined meditation and zumba and my anxiety reduced to a great extent but thoughts of death and if I see old people I get a feeling they ll die soon how r they still happy? How r everyone happy as they know they ll die one day. That time I get a short breathing prob for secs and m fine in notime. But at times I get a feeling m not enjoying my life thinking about all this cause before I was a brave girl a university topper never feared for anything and now I get a thought its better to die instead of such disturbance n very next sec I say to myself m not a coward no matter what I ll search for solution. Now can I overcome it forever without medication? Or else if I take nexito will I get addicted to it? And r they any chances of getting anxiety again in future? N hows hypnosis or nlp help me?

You are topper and bright student you should trust the process of psychiatric treatment. For sure you have anxiety and it could be Obsessive thoughts also ruminating about past and fear of death. You need to check with a psychiatrist again and give full account of your symptoms. The medication will go on for an year like antibiotics have course so do medication in psychiatry and if you leave in between you may relapse. These medication ate not at all addictive and have no side effects the only effect it will have is your betterment. NLP hypnosis has little role in your treatment. You can however go for psychotherapy cognitive behavioral therapy for ehich you need to consult a psychologist. You can consult me for same. It seems you have co morbid depression also get yourself treated asap. All the best.

Hi lybrate-user, there may or may not be a problem with you, I can not judge you by few lines that you have written. It could be that you are shy and introvert but you need affection also, so what happens you expect other people to be around and give you attention which you enjoy but may be in return you are not able to give them that much, so your efforts are not very evident and it may give impression to others that you are not trying or not interested but you are its just your personality is introverted im sure the right people stay in your life. Consult with me for counseling and therapy.

Hi Just little curious to know if there is a solution to have a happy life, especially mentally. Without having our negativity being dominating on us. A solution that can make a human mind free of negativity and can give a complete control on it. I do not know what would be the right step to make myself feel light, mentally. Consulting a doctor might make me feel little more weaker, but I need to. It is not a fight against my mind, but would like to learn how have a complete control on it. I think I need a bit of assistance from someone.

Hi lybrate-user, its not a weakness to consult a doctor. Once you choose hope anything is possible. We all get stressed from time to time and only thing we have control over is to how we chose to respond to it. Situations are neutral its our perception about things which make them negative and positive. We can choose to be positive and find good in everything we come across in our lives. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Have proper sleep, food intake - nutrition, exercise daily, keep a good social circle and cultivate positive thoughts. The more positive things you say to yourself the more positive you feel the more positivity you attract from the enviroment. This is no rocket science. The key to happiness is acceptance. You can start some meditation too. Consult a psychologist for same. All the best.

First of all you can not go to depression sometimes, its always there may be the severity increases or decreases or may be you are talking about stress. It is normal to feel like crying when very sad and feel restless. You need to figure out exactly to what extent it affects your life and in what ways. Talk to a psychologist or therapist. Masturbation is completey normal nothing to feel guilty of and its unrelated to your problem.

Hi lybrate-user, don't spoil your life and waste your time on people who don; t respect you enough. Its a myth that we become helpless no one is every helpless we are always in control of the situation you just need to realize it. Block all communication with him, invest in you, join some hobby classes focus on your career. If you stick with this guy you sure may have emotional difficulties later. Discuss your concerns with a therapist. You can consult with me too all the best.

Hi lybrate-user, Worrying too much about your work or the tasks that need to be done promptly primarily causes stress and fatigue in the workplace. Developing pressure from the top management also contributes a lot in our stress and fatigue. First of all develop a balance between work and personal life. Have some me time- enjoy what you love doing, develop hobby, listen to Music. And practice humour in Life, do not take life and work so seriously that you miss the fun of it. Exercise. Moderate amounts of exercise can actually help your mood. You will have more energy and require less sleep. Eat healthy foods. It could certainly lower your stress level. Furthermore, eating your meals properly at the right time can do so much wonder to your weary mind and body. Never ever skip meals. Even if you are on the rush going to work, never ever skip breakfast. Eating breakfast contribute a lot in making you totally rev up and brisk for the entire working day. Talk to a therapist to better manage your stress. You can consult me or any psychologist for same all the best.
