TB IgG Test

TB IgG Test

Anti TB IgG test is conducted to measure the concentration of Anti TB Antibodies called the IgG in your blood. It helps in confirming whether the patient is having tuberculosis or not. This is a standard assessment of antibodies to Mycobacterium tuberculosis in plasma or human serum. If lately, you have been experiencing unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, sudden chills, prolonged cough, chest pain or coughing up blood, then you may be asked to undergo this test. These are few of the symptoms that trigger the presence of tuberculosis in your body. This test is conducted during the treatment to check the concentration of the antibodies and after the treatment to confirm the well-being of the patient and the recovery.

There are no special preparations required for this test. Your daily routine will remain unaltered. If you are on medication or are having some allergies, then it is advisable that you disclose all your medical conditions to your physician. He will accordingly inform you of any probable changes required to be made or not. In most of the cases, no such preparation is required.

The TB IgG test is used to check the concentration of IgG antibodies to Mycobacterium tuberculosis in human plasma. You can conclude the following points from your result. If the reference range comes around 201-300 sero unit, then the result is said to be borderline negative. If the antibodies are positive, then the patient is said to have tuberculosis.

The result is based on the reference range which may vary slightly from one laboratory to another. It is advisable that you show your reports to your physician for a precise interpretation.

The test will be performed by a skilled medical practitioner and will be completed within few minutes. The blood sample is usually collected from your arm with vein puncture method. The person taking the test will clean the area with an antiseptic to prevent infection. A band will be tightly placed in your arm so that blood fills up in your vein and they are easily visible. Blood is then extracted from the vein using a small needle and the collected blood is stored in a small vessel that is sealed with your name.

A cotton pad is put against the puncture site in order to avoid any bleeding which is very rare. The collected sample is sent to the laboratory for testing. You can expect to get your reports within 2-5 days of the test.
