Orchidectomy Bilateral Test

Orchidectomy Bilateral Test

Orchidectomy, also known as castration or orchiectomy, is a clinical method of removing the testicles. Bilateral Orchidectomy is the process in which both the testicles are removed. This surgery is required in an individual suffering from prostate cancer which has reached the testes. It is also conducted on people who have injured the testicles and require immediate removal in order to avoid further consequences. It is also conducted to reduce the level of testosterone. The test usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes to finish. It may cause some post-surgery pain. But there are no long-term consequences.

There are some steps of preparation required before this procedure. The doctor will conduct a few blood tests in order to analyze the composition. Routine urine tests will also be conducted. A CT scan of the abdomen and the chest is also required. You should inform your healthcare practitioner regarding the medicines you take daily. This will help in avoiding medicines that can hamper accurate results. It is recommended that you avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen for at least 2 weeks before appearing for the surgery. Smoking is also prohibited. You are to avoid eating or drinking anything for 10 hours before the procedure.

The most important use of the orchiectomy surgery is the early treatment of testicular cancer. A condition of prostate cancer regresses much after the testicles are surgically removed. It is not a cure for cancer. But it helps in early treatment or necessary precaution for the same. The testicular tumours are also treated through this effective surgery. It also helps in relieving bone pain.

The lower abdomen and the scrotum are shaved and cleaned thoroughly. There is the use of either local or general anaesthesia to reduce the intensity of pain felt during the surgery. The doctor will make an incision in the scrotum or the groin and remove the testicles. Once the process is finished, the incision is sutured. The process of this surgery takes around 30-60 minutes in whole. The doctor can also insert prosthesis or artificial testes through a scrotal implant.
