HLA B27 (Flow cytometry Method) Test

also known as: HLA B27 Typing

HLA B27 flow cytometry test is performed on a sample of blood to measure the level of HLA B27 antigen in your blood. It is performed to find out the whether these are present in the blood:
1.Autoimmune Disorder,
2.Bone Degeneration and Bone Inflammation,
3.Bone Degeneration, Bone Inflammation and Chronic Pain.

Also it is performed during and after the treatment of Autoimmune Disorder.

No special preparation is needed for HLA B27 Flow Cytometry Test. You don’t need to change your diet for this test. You can both eat and drink normally. Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any previous medical conditions or any sort of allergies before undergoing HLA B27 Flow Cytometry Blood Test. Your doctor will assess your past condition will give specific instructions for undergoing this test.

The normal result for HLA B27 Flow Cytometry test for HLA B27 antigen is Normally negative for a normal healthy human being. A positive result will show a consistency with SpA (ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, or inflammatory bowel disease-associated arthritis), acute anterior uveitis, or juvenile idiopathic arthritis. However people who are tested positive for HLA-B27 positive will not have necessarily an associated condition. A negative HLA-B27 result does not diminishes the conditions associated with HLA-B27; the allele might not be always present in patients with these conditions.

Flow cytometry method is used.First the lab assistant will cleanse your arm with an antiseptic. To create pressure and cause your veins to swell with blood, a band, will be applied around your arm. A needle will be inserted in one of your veins to draw a small sample of blood(few ml). An appropriate amount of blood will be collected and the needle will be removed and a small bandage will be placed on your arm where the needle was inserted. You’re recommended to maintain some pressure at the site as it reduces blood flow.

Regarding whole blood specimens, an adequate test requires the presence of intact lymphocytes at the time of testing. Even taking appropriate precautions, an occasional specimen will not be satisfactory for testing. In such cases, fresh blood should be drawn for retesting.
