hello increase intake of protein, take good amount of milk,cheese,paneer,eggs,curds milk shakes with fruit and nuts.never skip meals and exercise for an hour

Bmi=19.21 its in normal range maintain input out put ratio. Whatever you eat calculate calories that called input calories after that do exercise and burn some calories that is out put calories. Eat less exercise more weight will loos have a barley soup at dinner have a dinner at 8.00pm and sleep at 10---11.00pm. Avoid rice at night. Calories calculator you will get on google download it. First of all you should follow some basic thing 1. Avoid=hot and cold at time 2. Less the sugar as much as possible if you want to eat sweet take juggery which is black 3. Do not drink water after meal drink at the time of meal sip by sip up to 150 ml 4. Avoid late night sleep 5. Avoid to eat spicy food, besan, bekary food, overeating, junk food. 6. Every 3 day in month eat mung dal and rice for whole day.

Am I fat ? Am i underweight..? What's normal weight ?

These are a few questions that always keep crossing our mind and for a few it causes lot of stress. There is an easy way to measure your body fat sitting at home by simply following two simple steps that will help you find out if you are underweight, or in normal limits- or overweight.

The Body Mass Index is a measure of the body weight relative to height that is associated with body fat and health risk. The equation is: BMI = body weight in kilograms/height in meters squared.

For an example if your height is 5ft- 4" ( 164 cm) and weight is 58 kgs.

BMI = 58/ 1.64x 1.64= 21.5kg/m2

Normal BMI range is used globally is varied from the one used for Indians. According to WHO:

Less than 18.5 - Under weight
18.5-24.9 - Normal
25.0- 29.9- Overweight
30.0 and above- Obese
The following are common definitions of BMI thresholds (used for Indians):.

BMI limit for Indians is:
Less than 18.4 - Underweight,
18.5 - 22.9 - Normal
23 - 24.9 - Overweight
More than 25 - Obese

Waist Circumference:
Another measure used to analyze your body fat is known as waist circumference.
Here by using a measuring tape you need to measure you waist circumference right in the center.
Waist circumference is 90 cm for Indian men and 80 cm for Indian women.

Waist- to- Hip Ratio:
Another simplest measure used to calculate fatness of the body is known as waist- to- hip ratio, a relationship between waist circumference and hip circumference. This can be easily done at home. Once you have known you waist circumference, find out your hip circumference. Divide your waist circumference by hip circumference; this would give you waist- to- hip- ratio.

Normal range for women- waist to hip ratio is 0.8 or less, if higher than 1.0 - it indicates you are overweight. Similarly for men if ratio is 0.9 or less then it is considered as safe, if higher than 1.0 it indicates you are overweight.

So know your weight and take best measures to keep it in limits.

Dear lybrate-user, your weight is less as compared to your height and age. However, you can get your daily diets planned according to your food habits, lifestyle, blood group & medical history, if any. You have to increase your daily calorie intake. Try to eat after every 2 hours. Include milkshakes, paneer / aloo parathas, cheese sandwiches, dry fruits, have rice as well as chapattis in your lunch / dinner. Drink atleast 3lts. Of water daily.

You are quite right in being concerned about it. This kind of excess weight is breeding ground for many diseases (blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, certain kind of cancers, arthritis, back pain etc), which can affect the quality of your life ahead. This is a lifestyle related issue and it can be surely treated with intensive lifestyle modification program. Most people who are fat are made to feel that it is because you lack will power, you are lethargic and a weak person. But that is definitely not true. It is your your hormones which have made you fat and keeping you fat. Unless we make correct diagnosis and and create a diet and lifestyle plan to correct that hormonal abnormalities you will not be able to lose weight for long term. Most diet fails because they are low calorie and low fat. Instead of correcting metabolism, they make you feel low energy or makes you feel excessively hungry. If you are doing regular exercise, it will increase your fitness but it does not reduce weight much. To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. There is a general approach and a specific approach as per individual patients metabolic profile. Try this general approach (see below) for 4 weeks. If this works then continue. If this is not enough then revert for further assessment and customized approach. 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Continue brisk walks or jogging for 45 - 60 minutes every day.

Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B. Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. C. If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. D. Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. E. Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. F. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. G. You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain.

What is healthy BMI?
Adult BMI refers to the range of percentage of fats in the body that varies according to the age and height of individuals. Usually, the people are considered to be healthy if their BMI lies within the range of 18.5-25. The individuals are considered to be underweight when the BMI is less than 18.5.

On the other hand, the individuals who have BMI in the range 25-30 are considered to be in the overweighed category. Those individuals who possess BMI Rate higher than 30 are in the category of obese people and such people are more prone to getting diseases such as cardiovascular diseases. Although this is a general classification of BMI Ranges, but in certain cases, there can be exceptions such as the athletes are considered to be overweighed due to their muscle mass even when they take care of their fitness. So, such people should take proper diet recommendations from their nutritionist in order to maintain the fat balance in their body.

Health tips to maintain your body mass index

  1. If you are qualifying in the category of being overweighed, then your primary goal should be to reduce the weight. Increased body weight can lead to variety of problems such as elevated blood pressure, lower good cholesterol, higher bad cholesterol, heart disease risks, diabetes risk, and other issues. It is because the fat tissues carry out a lot of important functions such as metabolism regulation and functioning of immune system and tumor development by secreting variety of hormones and inflammatory substances.
  2. If you are an obese person, then you should follow 20% physical activity and 80% good customized diet with smart eating which prevents you from following unwanted and senseless restrictions to lose weight.
  3. You should aim at reducing about 10 percent from your starting weight (excess fat loss) when you begin to work out. So, the time taken to reduce weight depends upon the amount of weight with which you begin and the intensity of your workout plan. Do not forget to make a count of your calorie intake because if this is inappropriate, then the results will be slow.
  4. Once you have reduced your weight, then you should recommend your health practitioner in order to maintain the weight. Your health provider may recommend dietary therapy, physical involvement and behavioral therapy for continuing the maintenance of weight.
  5. You need to have a healthy lifestyle in order to maintain your weight loss at least for initial six months.
  6. Those who are extremely over weight people, they need to keep patience in order to reach their goal with good lifestyle as that is the only key to preserve your weight for long term.
