Barbiturates Test

A Barbiturates is a drug and it acts as a central nervous system depressant and therefore can create the wide spectrum of effects from the mild sedation to the total anaesthesia. They are also very effective as hypnotics, anxiolytics, and anticonvulsants. It has great addition potential both psychologically and physically. Barbiturates have been continuously used for various treatments of cluster headaches or migraines, capital punishments, assisted suicide and euthanasia. It is been replaced largely by benzodiazepines in regular medical practices. It affects the body in so many ways which can harm the body mentally and physically.

Barbiturates Blood test is of two types. Barbiturates Drugs test and Barbiturate levels Blood test. It contains the drug that depresses the nervous system. There is no prior setup required to perform both the test. You can consult the doctor if you have Drowsiness, Coma, Sluggishness, Abnormal Breathing, Altered Mental Status. The test helps in detecting the level of drug in the human body. A needle is required to perform this test properly. It also tells about the overdose of Barbiturates in the body.

The procedure of this test is a band is wrapped around the arm of the patient above the superficial vein of the patient that lies below the elbow pit. Then the needle cap will be removed and held in the same line of the vein and penetrate with the help of needle with the quick moment the needle penetrate the blood from the vein. The required amount of blood sucked by the syringe in a moment. The needle and band will be removed from the arm and site will be cleaned with the gauze. The collected blood will be transferred into the container which has clot activator/preservative/anti-coagulant. The collected blood will be used to get the result of drug and to the level of Barbiturate in the body.
