Hi, the best advise for you would be that you take him to a psychologist - where he can be treated for this phobia by using behavioral technique called systematic desensitization. Here is a brief summary of the steps you will go through in desensitizing yourself: step 1. Anxiety hierarchy. First, you will construct an anxiety hierarchy, which is a list of those situations involved in and leading up to your target situation ranked in order from the lease disturbing to the most disturbing. Step 2. Relaxation training. Then you will train yourself in deep muscle relaxation. Step 3. Desensitization sessions. You will then go through a series of desensitization sessions. At the beginning of a session, using what you've learned from your deep muscle relaxation training (to be explained), you will relax. You will then imagine a scene representing the weakest item on your hierarchy while maintaining your relaxed state. A given step on your anxiety hierarchy must be repeatedly imagined until you no longer exhibit anxiety at the presentation of it. You will then imagine the next higher anxiety-producing step, and so on. Thus, the anxiety cues are gradually decreased until you can present the most frightening step without feeling any anxiety whatsoever.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. Anger and aggression are emotions. Anger comes when you become irritated. Irritation happens when you don't like something, or when something is repeated. As anger is an emotion, it should be vent out. You should be able to throw anger out instead of controlling it. But more perfect will be, know the frustrating situations and stop being emotional. If practiced properly, you will not get irritated at those circumstances at all. Those techniques are much easier to understand. I suggest anger management therapy. Take care.

It's been a year I daily feel tired and depressed. I have wild mood swings. My friends and family always keep telling me that my mood swings would 1 day ruin the relationships and I need to control them. I did lose a lot of people last year just because of my crazy behaviour. I started self harming in October. I cut, scratch and dig fingernails into my skin. I have lost complete interest in daily activities. I am scared of abandonment and Therefore push away people before they come closer to me. I also have occasional suicidal tendencies. I always self loath and try to tell bad about myself to others. At one moment I want people to notice me but at the very next I want to be alone. I don't understand why I always feel everything so extreme. Today I will tell a person that I love him but tomorrow I'll start hating him. After self diagnosis I understood I have BPD. I am confused but the symptoms are seen clearly. I need help. Thank you.

You seem to be suffering from Borderline Personality or Emotionally unstable personality. The cause is unknown but research suggests there is an interaction between adverse life events and genetic factors. Neurobiological research suggests that abnormalities in the frontolimbic networks are associated with many of the symptoms There is a pattern of sometimes rapid fluctuation from periods of confidence to despair, with fear of abandonment and rejection. There is a particularly strong tendency towards suicidal thinking and self-harm. They have love-hate relationship with close ones. Transient psychotic symptoms, including brief delusions and hallucinations, may also be present. It is also associated with substantial impairment of social, psychological and occupational functioning and quality of life. People with emotionally unstable personality disorder are particularly at risk of suicide. Its course is variable and, although many people recover over time. Kindly consult a psychiatrist for remedy.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Anger and aggression are emotions. These emotions always arise because of irritation, disappointment or events which were negative and not expected. But you should understand, these are common. You cannot change situations or circumstances. But we can always alter our perception and behavior about what is happening. This the core of anger management. I suggest online anger management training. Take care.

Inability to concentrate can be because of stress, anxiety, boredom, preoccupation with a bothersome thought or Attention Deficit Disorders. Identifying the cause helps us deal with the problem. In the mean time, make a time schedule for the day. Include regular exercise and stress reducing activities like sports or a hobby. Make small goals and revise within 12 hours of studying a topic. If you can't study alone, find a study partner.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common mental health problem. Symptoms typically include recurring thoughts and repetitive actions in response to the recurring thoughts. A common example is recurring thoughts about germs and dirt, with a need to wash your hands repeatedly to "clean off the germs" However, there are many other examples like sexual thoughts, counting, checking, orderliness, etc. The usual treatments are cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant medicine, or both. Treatment often works well to reduce the symptoms and distress of OCD greatly. Consult a psychiatrist. All the best.

Hi firstly do not attach any conditions to quit smoking morrow if your breathing problem gets resolved wud you start smoking? decide right now drink plenty of water exercise eat well sleep well do not use any substitute. Take it easy make it look simple each new day is a challenge for you. Keep urself busy reading writing pen down your thoughts. Keep a piggy bank put the money saved in it calculte it after each month and treat urself for nice shirt or something which you really like to.

Yes, he can be given cognitive behavioral treatments. A thorough history would include the presenting problems, background of the problems, and personal history with specific emphasis on relational history and family history and environment. It is of outmost importance to gain a clear understanding of the nature, pattern, and duration of your husband’s symptoms within the relationship context and in previous relationships. Therapists should collect detailed information about triggers of obsessions, their frequency and duration, the expected feared outcome or worry about the obsessions, and the responses to these intrusions. Responses include emotions (e.g., anxiety, guilt), overt compulsions (e.g., checking, comparing, reassurance seeking), covert compulsions (e.g., thought suppression, monitoring of internal states, self-reassurance), and avoidance or safety behaviors. ROCD symptoms have been linked with significant personal difficulties (e.g., mood, anxiety, and other OCD symptoms) and couple difficulties (e.g., relationship and sexual dissatisfaction). The counselor will help him and you in the treatment process. There will be a lot of contaminated thinking and decontamination is a good therapy to use in this context. He may develop an obsession of a particular trait from any old association as desirable not because he really likes it but because he has got familiar to that feature, perhaps from a movie, and just has an affinity to it. He may however imagine it to be the ultimate among all traits and stay fixated to it. He needs a lot of love but not to be overdone. His fears may be discussed and your discernment is very important. You will need to very intelligently show him the reality from fiction. His family background and childhood may help to determine how to counter their influences. It is a long process and tedious too. If there are other OCD characteristics, then you will need to get treatment for them too. Remember that there is a lot of fear and confusion, and decision making will be near impossible. You could be of tremendous help to make decisions and remove that burden. This can only happen if you prove your intelligence and decision making art.

Hi! I am 26 years old and I have been smoking for past 6years. I started with 2-3 cigarettes a day then near to a packet. Now I have reduced it to 2-3 again. Is there any way that I can detoxify my body completely and quit smoking?

Yes, there is a way but not by reduction: ideally you should give it up immediately and completely. You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i. E. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

Hi I am 32 years old) working in USA for cruise lines. I worked for 8 to 9 months & got 2 to 3 months vacation. Me n my wife (31 years old) almost completed 10 years married life. We have a baby boy (2 years old). My wife n my baby stay in India. Me almost worked there more than 4 years. Without me my wife suffered lots of mental stress from my mom & my in laws. We already visited with psychiatrist n my wife is in medication. I know that medicines are not good for health. From past 2 years our marital problems started. We tried to make our relations in positive way. But we vein. Now she demand for separation. She want to live alone. She is mentally very disturbed to carry all duties likes look after of our son, daily basis market etc. I know that this all has to be done by both. But now I am helpless. Because of my job. But I can't believe to destroy a nice relation. We did love marriage. We know each other from 1999. We made relation from 2001. So I don't want to lose her in any cost. She supported me each of my when I was nothing. Now I have everything but really miss my wife. So I want to marriage counsellor to protect my love life. please help me. please I don't want to loose her.

Is there any support from relatives from your family .Try all possibilities to generate support to wife and children. Try to relieve her from stress. Try to maintain caring and loving communication with her whenever possible. Both of you need marital and family counselling. Since you are at different regions of earth Online counselling may be an immediate option even though direct is the best. You can fix up appointment either together or individually soa that your family can be helped to a great extent. All the best.

Greetings, I'm preparing for SSC (services for income tax, customs, excise etc). Recently I got a C class job in Indian Railways after that I'm not concentrating over my study, I am wasting my time. I've made a mentality that i've a job then why should I study. Help me please I've spend a lot efforts for SSC but without continuity, it's getting worse. Please advise.

If you have the commitment then focus on your studies. The current job you have is good for the time being. But I think it is a monotonous job and you will get bored of it soon (if I am wrong, I stand corrected). Even in steady jobs nowadays many people are pursuing studies to be better at their jobs. So if you are interested or need to create the interest, do so immediately and do not waste time by procrastination. Go for tuition, group studies or whatever to study. Ssc has huge prospects.

Hi I will prescribe some harmless but effective flower remedy available in homoeopathy shops. Try to buy original medicines. Mix 3 drops of mimulus + 3 drops of cherry plum + 3 drops of white chestnut + 3 drops of aspen. Mix these with 100 ml water and drink it every morning and night.(same dose) on empty stomach.
