My sister is suffering from schizophrenia since year 2000. She is 32 year old at present. In year 2009, we started her medication from CMC vellore. They prescribed to take schiezodon 2 mg initially, later they asked to take 1 mg. Still she is taking 1 mg of schiezodone, however, she has not achieved the health like a normal person. She talks whatever we ask her, but doesn't reply/talk with same curiosity/ enthusiasm. Request for suggestion if any for further improvement.

Dear lybrate user. I understand. Spotting is any light vaginal bleeding which occurs at any time other than when a period is due. Spotting between periods is reasonably common. There can be a few reasons why it happens but the most common are hormonal changes and it being due to an implantation bleed. I suggest you to consult a gynecologist. Take care.

Dear Lybrate User, *Try to keep to a regular timing for going to bed*Avoid fried and heavy foods. Eat early and light food at night so that the food is almost digested by the time you go to bed. *Prefer fruits and green vegetables. *Fix daily work schedule and be busy with your work. Don’t keep pending problems in mind. Note down the points and leave them for next day’s action. *Don’t do stimulating mental work or keep watching TV which can keep your mind agitated or active. This will not allow you to sleep. LCD screen will also have adverse effect. *Day’s physical exercise makes you tired and induces sleep. *A warm bath in the evening will also be helpful. *Low volume music also induces sleep. *Keep your bed room neat, dark and cool. You may cover your eyes with bed sheet. *Drink plenty of water during the day rather than toward bedtime. *Don’t have stimulating drinks like tea or coffee Drinking a glass of milk before going to bed is fine. *Daily Massage body with coconut oil and bath with warm water,

Sir my hair is lost daily by daily only 50-60% hair is left. My head. Please help me, I am very depressed.
Protein-rich foods such as fish, and iron-rich foods such as dates, raisins and liver, all help strengthen the hair shaft, which leads to less hair loss. Vitamin c enables good absorption of iron, and citrus fruits are the best sources of this vitamin. Vitamin e has several positive effects on the skin and hair. Consuming avocado, nuts and olive oil provides a fair amount of vitamin e to your body.

My dad is very very much useful to alcohol intake. His age is around 52. What to do to him leave this habit.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
It sounds like he is in an advanced stage of alcoholism and needs admission to a rehabilitation center to ideally help him deal with this problem. There are no guarantees about stopping one?s addiction. But that does not mean we should not keep at it, over and over again until we succeed. Now it is difficult to give up all by himself because he has become addicted to alcohol and there is so much to do. Under such circumstances it is best that you admit him into a de-addiction center and let him stay there for at least 6 months and after that he can attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving and to act as an antabuse i.e. he will have a serious reaction, if he consumes even a small quantity of alcohol or alcohol based substances. It has to be carefully monitored to see that he not only consumes the medication but is also avoiding alcohol. Ultimately, it is his will power and the support that he receives from the medical fraternity and his close and dear ones. He must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course take a look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ?cross addictions? i.e. another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide him on several measures and precautions he will need to take to stay with his resolve. Even after the rehabilitation he must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. The family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. He cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to his drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. The children will also have to attend meetings to work out their issues because of the father?s habit. In fact, they are all suffering from the Adult Children Of Alcoholics Syndrome (ACOAs), which in effect means that they are genetically predisposed to alcoholism or can have cross addiction problems, and that they will have similar traits of the abusing alcoholic but in a milder form. There are special support groups for them all over the world. Should they touch or indulge in alcohol or any addictive substances or behaviors, they could also become full-fledged addicts themselves. Make a serious plan with whoever else?s support he can get and act on it fast. If he is not cooperative, there are some centers that will come and pick him up, after he is completely drunk, and admit his by force. This will however, require the wife and family?s consent.

Absolutely you can continue taking those pills as long as you need them. In the meantime meet with a counselor and sort out the depression that is haunting you. You can follow these instructions for your sleep problem: Instead of worrying too much about causes, why don’t you implement some of my suggestions, because they work effectively. The lack of sleep, i.e. Sleep for less than 6 hours per night, is directly linked to about 86 diseases! So let us first focus on that. In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.
