Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder in which the body recognizes the body's own system as foreign and produces an inflammatory reaction. The synovium which is the space between the bones and the joints and contains a lubricating fluid which allows easy movement of the joints.

Inflammation of this space leads to painful, swollen joints that can also turn red and become stiff over a period of time. The joint surfaces can gradually progresses to produce deformities (the swan-neck deformity of the hand for instance) and disability.

Because it is an autoimmune disorder, the exact etiology is not known but lifestyle, stress, cold weather are supposedly predisposing factors. That being the case, it is not surprising that ayurveda has a variety of options, both in terms of do's and don't's to manage rheumatoid arthritis - both the severity of symptoms and further progression of the disease.

Do's: a well-planned diet will help by supporting optimal functioning of the immune system and nourish the affected joints.

People diagnosed with ra should follow a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables. Drumsticks, bitter gourd, carrot, papaya, green leafy vegetables, cabbage, etc, reduce inflammation and hyperactivity of the immune system. The antioxidant properties in these neutralize the free radicals circulating in the body (responsible for increasing inflammation). This helps control the longstanding inflammation of the joints
It is also advisable to eat them as whole fruits and not as juices. The fiber in the whole fruits helps digestion
Sprinkle pepper powder over cooling food items like cucumber and radish
Include garlic which is an excellent remedy for ra, can be mixed with buttermilk
Whole grains such as wheat, brown rice, millet, barley are beneficial for ra, their high fiber content helps in proper digestion and promotes regular bowel movements
Honey mixed with water
Drink boiled milk to which dry ginger powder is added; this can replace tea and coffee
Milk mixed with turmeric powder is also helpful in controlling inflammation
Work at reducing weight
Don'ts: in addition to adding the above to your diet, there are some things to avoid, which can worsen symptoms of inflammation.

Avoid overall unhealthy and irregular diet habits which affects the immune system and aggravates symptoms
Avoid sleeping during daytime and staying awake at nights
Avoid deep fried foods and fermented food items
Given its autoimmune nature, it is better to avoid regular allergy-inducing foods like dairy products, soy, peanuts, processed foods, artificial additives, etc. These could trigger an enhanced allergic reaction.
Avoid alcohol, tobacco
Avoid tea and coffee and other caffeinated drinks
With simple daily food habit and lifestyle changes, the severity of ra can be managed effectively.

Yes its a part of aging, almost everyone will have some oa after age 60. That doesn't mean it wil trouble all. Only a few out of these for unexplained reasons will have severe disease. Exercise, ideal weight maintenance and healthy diet are best and probably only effective ways to prevent it.

Get harsingar leaves. Boil 10-15 leaves in a litre of water. Drink daily while warm. Apply rheumalint gel or cream and rub it over effected part. Massage over knee and back. Hope it helps.

Any way take ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days caldikind plus (mankind) 1 tab odx10days do knee exercises it may have to be further investigated make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. You will need other supportive medicines also. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Don? t ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Dear since you on bed/rest for 15 days, your muscles must have become quite weak and hence is this pain. Do hot fomentation and apply a pain killer gel and support your knee joints with 6" crepe bandages 2 for each knee. Applied from above the ankles to the base of thighs. No squatting on floor, use a commode and avoid stairs. Take a pain killer like ultracet sos for few days. Once your pain settles, start a short morning walk and increase it gradually. If of no avail. Do hot fermentation twice a day. Avoid long sittingand standing. Cross legs and squatting. Put a towel roll under knee and press for 10 sec then release repeat 10 time and tk calcium supplements. If it work then ok otherwise physiotherapy treatment must.

Symptoms
Signs and symptoms typically include:

Swelling. The skin around your kneecap can puff up noticeably, especially when you compare the affected knee to the normal one.
Stiffness. When your knee joint contains excess fluid, you might not be able to bend or straighten your leg completely.
Pain. Depending on the cause of the fluid buildup, the knee might be very painful — to the point that it's difficult or impossible to bear weight on it.
When to see a doctor

See your doctor if:

Self-care measures or prescribed medications don't relieve the pain and swelling
One knee becomes red and feels warm to the touch compared to your other knee

I am having diabetic (type2) since 18 years and BP since 12 years. I am under insulin and medication for both. The sensation in the foot is slightly reduced and as advised by doctor, I am using MCR footwear within house also. Last week, I had to visit a temple where I walked without footwear for about 100 feet, but with socks. Though I was very carefully walking, but some objects like stone or like that must pressed without my knowledge, though no injury but I am having leg pain till waist (left leg). But I am doing my regular activities like walking, driving, but with pain. Is there any treatment is required . Normally I am avoiding the places where I need to go barefoot. Footcare is no doubt very important for diabetic patients. Since you r chronically diabetic & hypertensive, u r prone for peripheral neuropathy wherein u get all these symptoms. I advise you to use the following oils from Arya Vaidya Sala Kottakkal, for regular external application:- Prabhanjana vimardanam + valiya narayana thailam ( mix both the oils , warm it & apply in both the legs in upward direction , for 10 minutes, leave it on for 1 hour and wash it off with warm water, daily once or twice).

Most leg pain results from wear and tear, overuse, or injuries in joints or bones or in muscles, ligaments, tendons or other soft tissues. Leg pain can also be caused by blood clots, varicose veins or poor circulation. To relieve mild pain: stay off your leg as much as possible apply an ice pack or bag of frozen peas to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day elevate your leg whenever you sit or lie down please go to a physiotherapist if: you have pain during or after walking you have swelling in both legs your pain gets worse your symptoms don't improve after a few days of home treatment you have painful varicose veins if you feel the pain is from muscle cramp then you need to drink a lot of water because poor fluid intake (dehydration) may predispose to cramps also low blood levels of either calcium or magnesium directly cause cramps.
