Hello doctor, My daughter is 3 years old and yesterday I got some reasons what could be symptoms of autism. 1) she does not have eye contact except her parents with other people, 2) does not want to play with other children 3) enjoying to watch TV and phone when she watching in phone she does not want to give it back 4) become very stubborn and feel irritated and started crying to get any thing 5) speak everything even the Hindi mantra also but sometime the speech is not so clear 6) sometimes live in her own world in school Are all these symptoms of autism and the therapy could help my child to be normal as other children. And can my child also study in regular schools. Thank you.

Yes. It may be autism. Visit for a detailed neurodevelopmental and speech therapy consultation. She may also need neuro occupational therapist if the diagnosis confirmed by clinical examination. Most kids with autism who have fluent speech do well with adequate support. Do not get scared. Also do not feel that child is too special or superkid just because there is suspicion of autism. Your kid is normal till evaluation. There are some medicines that may be added for support.

Infective diarrhoea is unusual in breastfed babies. Start rota virus vaccination before 16 weeks. If watery stools are continuing consult your doctor.

She gave birth to baby child on 3 oct. Delivery was normal and baby also. But she is not having lactation. Milk is not coming. So what to do? This may be dangerous. We also know mother's milk is very important for baby. But unfortunately. It is not. So we are providing powder lactogen milk to baby. Will it be good for baby.

Hello. It is best you give your baby only breast milk. Prenaan is also fine but mothers milk is best. Also you need to give vit d, calcium, phosphate, and iron suplementation to your baby as he is a lbw (low birth weight) baby. The weight gain by your child since birth has been appropriate.

You must breastfeed her because your breast milk is rich in antibodies to fight against the disease causing virus. In any case, your baby will be infected, and your breast milk will act as vaccine against the virus.

My 14months daughter was born with low birth weight (1.75kgs). She doubled her birth weight by 5 months, but since then her weight has not increased much. Started solids after six months. Before that she was exclusively breastfed. She has got a mild pulmonary valvular stenosis but docs told it has got nothing to do with her weight gain. She is only 4kgs now. Twice during winter she has to be hospitalised with respiratory distress with upper respiratory tract infection (viral). Since than she was on nebulizer for 5 months. Done many blood tests there to find out the reason behind her poor growth as well but all test gave normal report. Only she has very high eosinophil level and high WBC count. Mentally she is alert and very active. Kindly advise what to do to improve her condition of FTT. Right now I am giving her high calorie foods like banana, sweet potato, egg yolks daily. She does not like milk at all. So I am making porridges n pudding with it and feeding her. Also she is suffering from chronic constipation since she started solids. From past two months she has to be given milk of magnesia twice daily.

My baby girl is 7.5 months old and her weight is 6.5 kg. At the time of birth her weight was 3.1 kg. I have exclusively breast feed my baby till now. My doctor suggested me to give her formula milk (Similac formula stage 2) to increase her weight. Is it good to give her FM and breast milk (combination feeding) or else I will go with the only breast feeding.

Your baby is not gaining wt properly. By the age of 6 months weaning must have started. Now continue your feed and start giving dairy milk, cereals like thin suji kheer, khichadi, mashed vegetables, dal adding oil or ghee etc. start with one item once or twice in a day to develop taste and then increase frequency and quantity gradually. There is no need of FM.

Please ask your doctors in pgi why growth of that limb is less. Probably the infection has damaged the growth center of the limb bones. But don't worry once she grows older limb lengthening procedures and scar reduction procedures can be done. At present let her enjoy her child hood.

She is my grand daughter and very healthily born. Recently she suffered with cold and consulted a physician in USA, where they are living now, near Sanfransisco, California. She was advised nebulizer as and when she gets wheezing. Please clear whether she is safe or not, or may lead to Asthma, which is hell of a disease. Kindly clear my doubt.

Wheezing in children is a very common problem now and many children grow out of it with age. Nebulizer is a safe treatment for wheezing and it itself does not cause or leads to asthma.

Better not to apply permethrine or any other chemical applications to small baby's skin as absorption is more because of large surface area.

4 Common Diseases that Babies are Susceptible To

Ask Free Question
Infants often suffer from certain diseases which need proper care and timely treatment for quick recovery. At times, it can be difficult to communicate with an infant and understand his/her needs and problems but with a close observation you will surely be able to detect any alteration in the baby's behavior and sense it when he/she is ill. Here are some of the most common diseases infants are susceptible to and what you can do about them.

1. Abdominal distension
It is normal for a baby's belly to stick out after he/she has been fed, but if between feedings there is swelling in the abdomen or it feels hard, it can be an indication of a problem. If this symptom is accompanied by vomiting and absence of bowel movements for more than two days, your baby may be suffering from abdominal distention. This condition may have been caused by swallowing of extra air by the baby while crying or feeding. In such a situation, a pediatrician should be consulted for proper diagnosis and treatment.

2. Jaundice
It is common among newborns to develop mild forms of jaundice as the undeveloped liver is often not able to eliminate the chemical bilirubin from the blood. Mostly, this situation proves to be harmless till the level of bilirubin reaches a certain limit. After that, the disease must be properly treated to avoid damage to the baby's brain or nervous system.

3. Rsv infection
Rsv or respiratory syncytial virus is responsible for causing respiratory problems among infants. Rsv infection usually affects the bronchial passage and shows symptoms like cough, runny nose and mild fever which may even lead to bronchitis. Moreover, this infection may also develop into viral pneumonia, which makes it more important to consult a pediatrician if your baby shows any of the above symptoms.

4. Diarrhea
Infants are susceptible to watery bowel movements due to the action of virus, allergens, specific medications or bacteria. If you observe that your baby is passing stools more often than usual and it is watery, then it may be a case of diarrhea. Sometimes, these symptoms are accompanied by high fever, abdominal pain, lethargy, vomiting, dry eyes and mouth etc. In this situation you should consult your pediatrician and focus on replacing the fluids your baby has lost, to prevent dehydration.

Babies crying is not always for feed. In the first 3 months crying is more in some babies. It can be due to wet napkins and need for urinating. You have to give other feeds with s spoon and not bottle.
