For the past few months, my eyes burn occasionally. How do I get rid of this. From the past few months, my eyes burn occasionally. This is the time of exams and I spend a good amount of time studying. I also spend time on my tablet as it has all question papers the burning sensation causes problems while writing the exams. The sensation goes away momentarily after I sleep for a while or wash my eyes. Please suggest drop eyes to get rid of this.

Burning of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Hope my suggestions helped you.

Hi, Your wife has lost a baby who was inside her womb, the bond between the dead baby and the mother is very strong and touchy! She is going through a very bad phase. As per her report, she is physically fine but she is disturbed mentally. Give her emotional support and stand by her for making her stand on her feet again! Recommending you homoeopathic medication which will reduce her problem as well as will reduce the mental agitation. Give her Ignatia 30/ once daily in the morning and Kali Phos. 6x/ once at night daily for 10 days. Revert me back after that.

Squint invariably need surgery to correct misalignment of muscles. Very small squint can resolve with glasses. At least squint isn't visible and get concealed.

My brother is 14 years old and he is using a spectacle as he have hyperopia (long sightedness. Can he be again able to see properly without lens or spectacles?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, he should do these exercises to strengthen the ocular muscles. Exercises for eyes: warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Take 10 ml amla juice daily.

I have a little bit sight but I don't want to use spectacles is there is any prblm without using spectacles.

Dear if you do not have headache or any other problem even after not using spectacles, if it is only 0.25 sph, you need not to use it. Many people do have such numbers but they do not need to use it.

Dear lybrate user, red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS

Hello 1. Please don't worry 2. This must be power of your near vision glasses 3. Near vision glass power increases with age and it is natural 4 there is no way to stop this as this is just aging process 5. Computer does not affect your eyes. It can't increase power of your glasses.

My eyes has been suffering from the allergy of sun light when I go in sun light than my eyes get red.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello. I think you have allergic conjunctivitis. Eye allergies, called allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them (called an allergen). The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids) become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. The key to treating eye allergies is to avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. Avoid rubbing eyes instead do cold compresses. Use antiallergic eyedrop along with lubricating eyedrop. This will help you I am very sorry dear to say that there is no drud that can cure allergy. Only way is to stay away from all those things that you are allergic to.

My job demands 12 hrs of computer usage on day to day basis. I have computer syndrome. My eyes pain a lot someone. I don't feel like watching anything then. Hence, I have decided to go for good AR coated glasses. Also coating which can filter blue rays. I check with crizal lenses. It has crizal prevention. But this is very costly. Hence, I want to check is it worth spending so much or there is alternative in local brands? Some facts: Also in year 2011 I have gone through lasik for correction.

DNB Ophtalmology, MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
U have 2 choices to go for blue filteration- one is in your glasses, the other in your screen or PC- The computer apps/software should be free. High computer usage causes eye strain and back (spine) related issues. Proper care and attention can completely avoid them. This information is readily available online as Computer vision syndrome. Digital eye strain or computer ergonomics. For eyes, follow 20-20-20 rule and Palming. It means that after every 20 minutes of screen time, for 20 seconds look beyond a distance of 20 feet. Palming is part of yoga- rub your clean hands to warm them and gently cup your eyes. With a history of LASIK. It will be wise to use a good lubricating eye drop 3-4 times daily.

Sir, I have black color at bottom of my eyes. I have like that from past 3 years. For that problem what should I do?

MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
All the natural ingredients (Tretinoin, Hydroquinone and Cortisone) inlcuded in Melamet have only one goal: to improve your skin tone. Tretinoin helps prevent and treat acne and wrinkles by peeling off dead skin cells. Hydroquinone is the skin lightener agent in this equation that improves the overall tone of your skin. Cortisone is an anti-allergy ingredient that reduces inflammation and/or itching.' How to Use: Use the Melamet Cream just before bedtime. Wash it off in the morning, and apply some sunscreen if you intend to go outdoors. Failure to do so will cause significant damage and even result in your skin turning black.

Breathing Contact Lenses: A Boon for High Myopes

MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Jaipur
Breathing Contact Lenses: A Boon for High Myopes

Variety of contact lenses is used to correct refractive errors. Soft Contact (hydrogel) Lenses are most often used in various types of refractive errors but they have certain disadvantages. These lenses do not permit adequate Oxygen to pass through which is essential for health of cornea and hence they can be worn for limited hours, i.e 6 to 8 hours maximum and never while sleeping. The tear proteins get deposited on these lenses which limit their life to about a year. If worn for prolonged period or proper measures not taken to clean the lenses, cornea can get an ULCER which at times can result in permanent loss of vision. Disposable daily wear lenses provide safer alternative but the cost increases significantly. Since soft contact lenses are applied after cleaning with a solution which can be the cause of mild to severe allergic conjunctivitis which can become intolerable. Soft contact lenses are not ideal in eyes with high corneal astigmatism.

Merits of soft contact lenses are that they can be dispensed over the counter or purchased on line though it is not ideal. A correct curvature and power of a contact lens is determined by a contact lens specialist/ Ophthalmologist after measuring exact corneal curvature and using trial contact lens. Another merit is that these lenses can be accepted very easily since even on the first day they do not produce much of discomfort. These lenses can be worn off and on without any inconvenience. Recent introduction of Toric Contact Lenses have made them more acceptable in cases of moderate corneal astigmatism.

Breathing Contact Lenses:

These lenses are the one which permit significant amount of oxygen to pass through and hence can be worn for prolonged interval without any adverse effect on the cornea. These are of two types

  1. Semisoft or Extended Wear RGP Contact Lenses: These lenses are made up of FP 92 which is a semi rigid soft plastic and is highly permeable to oxygen. These lenses are excellent for high refractive errors, especially in patients who have high corneal astigmatism. Even cases with irregular cornea or Keratoconus, these lenses can be accepted with rewarding results. These lenses can only be fitted by an expert Ophthalmologist since precise measurement has to be carried out and various trial lenses have to be tried to evaluate the optimum fit. The lenses are made to measurement and the patient has to be precisely trained to fit the lenses and maintain them. As stated, the lenses can be safely worn while sleeping and there is practically no danger of corneal toxicity or infection. These lenses may last for 4-5 years. One of the demerits of these lenses is that they take 5-6 days to adopt and the patient is advised to use them regularly. They are excellent alternative to LASIK surgery.
  2. Silicon Hydrogel Contact Lenses: These are recent introduction of extended wear contact lenses with capacity to 'breathe' better than soft or hrdrogel contact lenses. Some of the recent Silicon Hydrogel Contact lenses introduced by Alcon and Bausch and Lomb can be worn for a week or so.

Silicon hydrogel lenses though indicated for prolonged wear but can cause mild keratitis and sometimes allergic keratitis if worn overnight. These lenses still needs lot of improvement to be free of complications

Advise: It is ideal to consult an Ophthalmologist specialized in contact lenses for fitting of a proper contact lenses. Advertised lenses some time misguide and can be damaging to the eye.

Dip johnson's buds in lukewarm water and clean your eyelid margins with that looking into the mirror. Do it twice a day for one week.
