My daughter is 3.5 years old, is extremely stubborn & a hyperactive kid. Apart from being fidgety she cries for every demand, is a poor eater, remains cranky & suffers from iron deficiency. She's really giving a tough time to us handling her. Please suggest if psychology has a solution through counseling. Thanks.

Using different and innovative methods to train and feed her will be best done at home, parents are the best guide for kids at this age, and play schools too will be a good place for the kids to learn and form habits along with other kids. Along with that I would advice you to start with swarna prashana as it will help to tone her down a bit and also start giving her chavanprash as an addition to food.

The Pros & Cons of Soy Milk for Children
You can find soy milk lining the shelves of most grocery stores. With a wide range of child-friendly flavors, such as vanilla and chocolate, this creamy dairy milk substitute can be appealing to kids of all ages. Some infant formulas are even made from soy. As with any food item, soy milk has several potential advantages and disadvantages for the children who drink it.
Pros and Cons: Allergies
Millions of children throughout the United States suffer from some level of allergies related to cow's milk, warns the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. The agency says that soy milk can be an ideal substitute as it doesn't contain the lactose protein that can cause kids such trouble. On the flip side, some children are allergic to soy products. Because food allergies can vary widely in terms of severity, consult your doctor if you have any concerns about your child's allergic reactions.
Pros and Cons: Hormones
Research is inconclusive regarding the effect that soy milk and other soy products may have on a developing child's hormone levels, reports Harvard Medical School. Soy milk contains estrogen receptors that may mimic the effects of estrogen, and may affect cancer risks related to breast and prostate cancer. Harvard notes that there's yet to be sufficient evidence to avoid soy milk, and that cow's milk also contains hormones that may potentially be harmful.
Pros: Bowel Movements
Children ages 3 years or younger may benefit from being fed soy milk formulas over cow-milk-based formulas. The National Institutes of Health's MedlinePlus reports that soy formulas help such children experience fewer cases of diarrhea and less frequent bowel movements, potentially because of soy milk's fiber content.

Pros: Calcium Supplementation
Washington University advises using fortified soy milk as a way to ensure your child is getting enough calcium. Sufficient dietary calcium intake among toddlers and children helps ensure proper growth, development and strong bones, according to the university. Additionally, the university says fortified soy milk also contains vitamin D, a vitamin that enhances calcium absorption.

Cons: Thyroid Problems
In very rare cases, soy milk given to infants can cause fluctuations in thyroid levels, which can cause goiters, warns the National Institutes of Health's MedlinePlus. Goiter is the medical term involving an enlarged neck related to thyroid problems. The institute's report that the problem ceases when soy milk is withheld.

Migraine and Homoeopathy

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai

Migraine is a complex disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of a headache, most often unilateral and in some cases associated with visual or sensory symptoms collectively known as an aura that arise most often before the head pain but that may occur during or afterward . Migraine is most common in women and has a strong genetic component.

Signs and symptoms

Typical symptoms of migraine include the following:

1.Throbbing or a pulsatile headache, with moderate to severe pain that intensifies with movement or physical activity

2.Unilateral and localized pain in the frontotemporal and ocular area but the pain may be felt anywhere around the head or neck

3.Pain builds up over a period of 1-2 hours, progressing posteriorly and becoming diffuse

4.Headache lasts 4-72 hours

5.Nausea (80%) and vomiting (50%), including anorexia and food intolerance, and light-headedness

6.Sensitivity to light and sound

Features of migraine aura are as follows:

1.May precede or accompany the headache phase or may occur in isolation

2.Usually develops over 5-20 minutes and lasts less than 60 minutes

3.Most commonly visual but can be sensory, motor, or any combination of these

4.Visual symptoms may be positive or negative

5.The most common positive visual phenomenon is the scintillating scotoma, an arc or band of absent vision with a shimmering or glittering zigzag border

Physical findings during a migraine headache may include the following:

*Cranial/cervical muscle tenderness
*Horner syndrome (ie, relative miosis with 1-2 mm of ptosis on the same side as the headache)
*Conjunctival injection
*Tachycardia or bradycardia
**Hypertension or hypotension
*Hemisensory or hemiparetic neurologic deficits (ie, complicated migraine)
*Adie-type pupil (ie, poor light reactivity, with near dissociation from light)

Homoeopathic constitutional treatment cures this malady completely since it goes to the root of the disease and removes this tendency permanently.

Some of Homoeopathic remedies used for treating migraine are Belladonna,Spigelia,Sanguinaria,Glonoine,Natrum mur,Phosphorus, Tuberculinum, Iris versicolor, medicine should be strictly selected based on symptom similarity only to get permanent cure.

*Hypertension

Hello lybrate-user, Cloba 5 mg tablet can be given to children under 5 for seziures. Cloba belongs to class of drugs called Benzodiazepines. Diazepam too belongs to same class. However Cloba has lesser side effects than Diazepam with similar efficacy.

Hi, I have a 4 month old girl child. Please suggest how to care for and how to treat for best grow. And suggest any books, literature or tools which help us better. Thanking you.

General Physician,
To give you a good guidance I need to know the present weight. Weight alone is not the indicator of good health. You can continue to give breast milk and add home made semisolids like raggi porridge, mashed banana and slowly introduce all the homemade foods. You need to be in regular touch with me so that I can personally interact and guide you as this is very interesting part of caring for babies, I like. Ask me privately.
