Stressed - You Might Be Suffering From Depression!

Stressed - You Might Be Suffering From Depression!

Most of us have faced the feeling of being weighed down by life's harsh realities and have been sad or low for a long while. It is very common to be upset for some time and most people recover from this feeling and start smiling again in a short span of time. But, if you or any of your loved ones are almost always very sad and this spirit is affecting your daily life considerably, then chances are you might be undergoing a phase of depression.

Here are certain signs to watch out for to determine whether you are struggling with depression.

  1. Cultivation of a pessimistic approach about everything in life - You feel a sense of hopelessness and that your situation in life will always be the same without any improvement is a sure shot sign that you are suffering from depression.
  2. Sudden variation in weight or appetite - If you suddenly find that you've lost or gained a significant amount of weight without any substantial reason, then chances are high that it is happening because of your depression.
  3. A significant change in sleeping patterns - If you've been experiencing insomnia lately or have got a habit of oversleeping, then these might be symptoms of depression.
  4. Feeling of guilt without any particular reason - If you have started feeling guilty or constantly blame yourself for everything you've done in the past then the reason behind this may be your state of depression.
  5. Anger or irritated mood - Having a low level of tolerance, getting angry quickly or always being in an irritated mood can be a prominent sign of depression.
  6. Displaying an uninteresting behaviour towards regular activities - If you no longer feel pleasure in pursuing your favourite activities or things from daily life like hobbies; socialising doesn't interest you anymore then it can be a warning sign for you. In such cases, you can consult a psychiatrist to get treatment for depression.

I'm in a relationship from three years I want to marry her but due to inter caste she directly said no to me. I'm crazy for her I loved her more than my parents I have neglected everything for her but she doesn't care. Now I can't live without her I wanted to commit suicide but my parents have lots of hope from me. I can't study every time my. Brain think about her please help me I have my exams after two days.

I wish she had told you about the caste problem before you fell in love with her. It now looks like this is a serious reason and her parents and her community may not allow her to get married to anyone outside of her caste. You have to accept this reality and move on. If you tried any other means this might jeopardize her life and yours unnecessarily. Nobody is worth dying for unless you were in an attempt to save them. Your life is very precious and you must want to live for your own sake first. Your parents will be devastated if you did something foolish, and all their efforts to bring you up will have gone completely to waste. It only shows that you can love a person who has just come into your life more than the people who gave you life and spent so many years bringing you up! Surely you do not mean that? Keep the good memories of this girl and learn to live without her. You will find a very suitable girl when you are well educated and a great success in life. For you to feel this level of despair it can only mean that there is some weakness in your personality. This is something for you to work on with a counselor and develop a good personality. If however, this is final, then remove all associations of hers: gifts, notes, letters, cards, emails, and any reminders to get her out of your system, not just the mind. Keep the good memories but don’t indulge in them. Get back to your old pals and revive those contacts. Normally when we get a girl friend, we drop all our friends and live exclusively with her. This is not a good thing to do, generally. So do get back to them and get into good social circles. They will help you get over her. Do not talk ill or malign your ex to your friends, whatever was the reason. That is unfortunately a very bad habit many of us have – we must still respect her reputation and treat her with dignity. Since this break up is so serious for you that suicidal thoughts are also plaguing you, do meet up with a counselor and talk about your feelings, openly. This is not the end of the world and she is not the only girl in life. You will find another but learn not to repeat the mistakes that led to the breakup. This time choose wisely and behave like a true gentleman.

10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings. If you find answer helpful please click on “helpful” tab for knowing my efforts are useful.

How to improve Concentration over studies and also how to maintain good health and physic.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Your age could be a factor because at this time your hormones, especially testosterone plays a vital part in disturbing a lot of things including concentration and memory. Nevertheless use the tips I have given and they will certainly help you improve concentration. Natural concentration is when the mind can hold a thought for a long time, when thoughts are under our own control. Without concentration the mind goes here, there and everywhere, jumping like a monkey from branch to branch, idea to idea. When there is a natural concentration, we can control our mind and there is peace. This one-pointed concentration on a thought, holding it for as long as we like, gradually collects strength in the mind and in the self. A strong mind is a mind that is peaceful, stable, satisfied and can remain in the deeper meaning of a thought. There is no waste caused by over-thinking, or the high speed of thought: These are the two greatest diseases of the mind these days, which is why there is so much stress and mental breakdown. Stress can foil concentration and learning ability. Although concentration is different to memory, they can affect each other. Concentration precedes memory. If you are under stress your concentration will go for a toss, then naturally memory will be totally foiled. So meet with a counselor to take care of the stress and your memory will happily return. You can follow these simple rules in the meantime: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid all junk food.

This is a psychological problem. I have performed poorly in class 12 examinations. I am very much depressed about it. I know its my fault. My family life is complicated. I could not sleep at nights due to frustration but still I try to be strong and think positive and move forward in life. But the main problem is my parents are always torturing and bullying me whenever they are getting the chance. I have had mental breakdowns but still they will not understand. I cannot breathe freely. They are always harassing me. I have tried to make them understand my problems but they are not interested. I have no one to share my sorrows and griefs and day by day I am breaking down mentally. I just have no idea what to do. All my efforts to make my parents understand have failed. My self confidence is now down to negative values due to this onslaught of my parents. Please try to understand. I really tried everything I could.

Dear lybrate-user. Welcome to lybrate. You are disappointed, distressed and lack interest in life. I do not know much about your parents and their attitude and behavior. Therefore I cannot comment on them. I can talk to you. I think you should change your attitude. Suppose, you are getting employed and your boss is always harassing and bullying you, what will you do? apply that situation here. Change your attitude. Take care.

Smoking a cigarette is dangerous? Or smoking a weed is dangerous? What will be the side effect if we use these two products? How can we prevent the side effects of these 2 products.

Both are very dangerous. Best age to stop smoking is before 40, In fact do not start all Only by using strong willpower and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.

Hi. Its about my friend's father. He is an occasional drinker. But whenever he drinks he gets irritated and starts behaving differently towards his family. Hi. Its about my friend's father. He is an occasional drinker. But whenever he drinks he gets irritated and starts be...
He is what is called a binge drinker: drinks occasionally but drinks to levels of intoxication. He is definitely depressed and it looks very like an anger related depression. These things will be discovered in therapy when he seeks that type of help. One very important condition is that he must want to give it up himself for an ideal resolution to the alcoholism. If you think that he will find it very difficult, then admit him to a hospital and go for de-addiction: which normally lasts for about two weeks. Then follow that up with addiction counseling from a professional for at least three years to completely get rid of the habit. If this is also not enough, then admit him into a de-addiction center and let him stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving. Ultimately, it is his will power and the support that he receives from the medical fraternity and his close and dear ones. He must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i.e. another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide him on several measures and precautions he will need to take to stay with his resolve. Even after the rehabilitation he must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. His family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. He cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to his drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. His children will also have to attend meetings to work out their issues because of the father’s habit. In fact, they are all suffering from the Adult Children Of Alcoholics Syndrome (ACOAs), which in effect means that they are genetically predisposed to alcoholism or can have cross addiction problems and they will have similar traits of the abusing alcoholic but in a milder form. There are special support groups for them all over the world. Should they touch or indulge in alcohol or any addictive substances or behaviors, they could also become full-fledged addicts themselves. If friend's father refuses to go for rehabilitation, then some centers have a method of picking him up when he is totally sloshed and is not able to fight back effectively. They will need the family’s written consent before willing to take him in this manner. Make a serious plan with the wife and children and whoever else’s support he can get and act on it fast.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Usually, dreams has nothing to do with reality, past or present. Several research studies has confirmed this. Father of psychology, freud, made a theory named dream analysis before 150 years ago. If you provide me the whole details, I could try to analyze the dreams. I suggest online counseling. Take care.

U need to change the way you have been studying if you keep forgetting things very soon. May be you are adopting a method to mug up things, that won't help in the long run. Inattentiveness and poor concentration in studies can be treated with medications. Consult personally for its management.

Hello lybrate-user, thank you for the question. If the risk in quadruple test is above the cut off for Trisomy21, then I would suggest a confirmatory test for the same. The confirmation can be done either by Amniocentesis or by Noninvasive prenatal test (NIPt). Amniocentesis is the USG guided procedure of drawing amniotic fluid which has fetal cells. These fetal cells can be examined for fetal chromosomes. It is a 100% test. The procedure related risk of miscarriage is very less- about 1 in 500. There is not much pain. NIPT confirms Down Syndrome up to 99.6%.it is done from mother's blood and hence no risk of procedure related miscarriage. But I think if your doctor has recommended Amniocentesis, then you should go for it. We Routine ly do it. It's a 10 mins procedure and is important for confirming the Trisomy21. I hope this is helpful.

Dear Anurag, Welcome to lybrate. Alcohol addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.
