I would suggest have intercourse mid-cycle which is from 10 days after your wife's periods starts for another 8-9 days to help getting pregnant.(This is useful provided your wife has regular 28-30 days cycle) Also start taking Folic acid supplements if not already started. If after another 3-4 months of trying your wife still fails to conceive then it is important to get her fallopian tubes checked and your semen analysis done.

Yes it is normal. Means head of your baby is low down. However this alone is not sufficient to say wether your delivery will be be normal or not. Also there are no medicines to start labour pains that can be recommended.

Periods - 4 Reasons You Must Track them!

Keeping track of your cycle probably doesn't sound that interesting or important, but you can get a lot of benefit by doing that. There are changes that your body goes through and there are specific times when you are ovulating; knowing all these would make your life a lot easier, which is only possible by tracking your period.

  1. Know about your body: Getting your period every 28 days has always been considered normal, but only 15% of women get their periods on the clock. Many factors such as stress, illness, exercise etc. can cause your period to delay. This is where tracking your cycle can help you finding the pattern that is specific to your body condition. During your cycle there are lots of changes happening in your body. The hormones cause a change in the fluid produced from your cervix and also lead the basal temperature of your body to increase. Monitoring these changes through tracking your cycle is known as the symptothermal method. By this way know about how fascinatingly your body works.
  2. Desire to get pregnant: Tracking your cycle will help you get pregnant. During your cycle, there is a specific time, which heightens the possibility of conceiving. The fluid production from the cervix due to hormonal change is the cause of such possibility. Knowing your cycle can take out the stress from trying to get pregnant and it can also determine any abnormalities that are preventing your pregnancy.
  3. Avoid pregnancy: If you know the time when you are most likely to get pregnant through tracking, you obviously know when not to have sex if you are trying to avoid pregnancy. Using symptothermal method for the purpose of birth control has proven to be 99.6% effective, which is higher than birth control medications.
  4. Health benefits: You can reap a lot of health benefits by tracking your cycle. Conditions like fibroids, polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis are quite common in women, which can be detected by tracking your period. If anything is wrong in your reproductive system, the cycle will indicate it.

Although your investigations are negative I would still suggest that you get injections to suppress your ovarian function to see if you get any relief. This way we will be very sure whether the problem is Gynaecological in origin.

If your test is positive it usually means you have ovulated this cycle and hence there have been hormonal changes that have been picked up by the kit.

She needs a CBC, Thyroid function test, Clotting screen as well as a USG done if possible. Treatment has to be tailored accordingly. Usually the first few periods after menarche are anovulatory and can be heavy/ prolonged. These usually settle down with medicines.

There is always a small possibility of ovulation as well as failed i-pill. Best is to wait for her next period. If she misses her periods best is to do a urine pregnancy test.

If she has had a normal period last month it is unlikely she is pregnant. However best is to do a serum b-Hcg to be very sure.

If the bleeding is settling down and there is minimal pain then do not worry as it may be just one off. Occasionally periods can be disturbed due to stress, poor health and medicines like i-pill. Keep a menstrual calender for the next 3 months and see what happens.

The period date is calculated based on average of the last 3-4 months for a woman. From the dates you have mentioned it appears that she has a 26 days cycle. Im which case she should have had a period in November as well. If not please do a pregnancy test. If she has had and a i-pill has been taken as described then unlikely she will be pregnant for this episode if her cycles are regular.

These symptoms are called pre-menstrual symptoms and commonly happen in the second half of monthly cycle in many women. It is due to hormonal fluctuations and is usually suggests ovulation. So there is nothing to worry and keep trying for a baby.

My wife is a lactating mother and has given birth to a baby boy 3 months back. On 4th or 5th Nov we had unprotected sex and as a preventive measure she took i-pill. On 8th she had her 1st menstrual cycle started after delivery. On 12th we again had unprotected sex. Now we are concern. Please advise way forward and risk associated and what medicine to take.

She can still take unwanted 72 if it is within 3 days. However her periods will mess up because of so frequent intake of pills. If more than 3 days best to wait patiently for a month and do a pregnancy test if needed. Also use condoms for the remaining of this month.
