As the name suggests, Throat Cancer happens along the throat channel and can be either pharyngeal cancer or laryngeal cancer. Individuals suffering from the same would have issues related to their voice. In most cases, there would be a sudden change of voice, trouble in swallowing food, constant need to clear throat, coughing up blood, swollen lymph nodes and pain in the ear.
HOW IS THROAT CANCER DIAGNOSED?
Doctor will perform a laryngoscopy and if it reveals abnormalities, the doctor may take a tissue sample from throat for biopsy and test the sample for cancer.
HOW IS THROAT CANCER TREATED?
There are different treatment options for throat cancer. If the tumor in your throat is small, the doctor may surgically remove the tumor. Following the removal of the tumor, the doctor may recommend radiation therapy. In the case of large tumors and tumors that have spread to the lymph nodes and other organs or tissue, the doctor may recommend radiation, as well as chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a drug that kills and slows the growth of malignant cells.
