Open pores are basically dilated openings of the oil glands that are usually seen across the T zone and the cheeks. These occur due to untreated oil secretions and tend to get worse with age. Open pores are not a health concern but can become a cosmetic issue. People with oily skin are very prone to this condition.
HOW IS OPEN PORES DIAGNOSED?
Examination of the skin especially of the cheeks and the T-region of the face would help to reveal these open pores.
HOW IS OPEN PORES TREATED?
Washing the face with products that contain salicylic acid can help control oil secretion. Extra oil can be wiped from the face with the use of toners. Applying sunscreen would protect the skin and prevent new pores from developing. Dermatologist could recommend creams which contain vitamin A. If the pores are too large then laser treatment, skin needling or fractional resurfacing could be recommended.

Excessive exposure to sunlight can also cause an increase in the size of the pores. The sunlight damages the collagen in the skin thereby reducing its elasticity and causing the size of the pores to increase.
