Muscle Injury or a pulled muscle occurs when the muscle is over stretched or torn. Muscle Injury usually occurs due to fatigue, overuse or improper usage of muscle. Muscle Injury can happen anywhere, but it is most common in lower back, neck, shoulder and hamstring. Symptoms are:
• Sudden onset of pain
• Limited range of motion
• Bruising or discoloration
• Knotted-up feeling
• Muscle spasms
HOW IS MUSCLE INJURY DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of these injuries would be done by an orthopaedic who would run a few X-rays and scans to check for internal damage.
HOW IS MUSCLE INJURY TREATED?
Treatment depends on the kind of injury. If it is just soreness and swelling then medicines to relieve the inflammation and pain are given. In other cases, bandaging and plastering the area may be required to minimise pressure. You can also be asked to wear supportive gear and avoid exercises for a while.
DID YOU KNOW?
In a very severe case of Muscle Injury, surgery may be required to repair the muscle.
